Introverts, Extroverts, Conferences, and Migraines {Excedrin Migraine}

The older I get, the more I realize that I’m an introvert.

Or, as someone once said “I’m an extroverted introvert.”

I didn’t even know that was a THING.  I guess I always just thought that introverts were shy…and I have about 0% of my body that is shy.  Plus, I can do public speaking and presentations and all that jazz with fairly minimal butterflies.  Stuff like that doesn’t so much bother me.  And I can totally dominate a conversation.  And laugh really loud.  (Both of which can be an obnoxious thing.  Sorry about that.)  So, I’m totally not an introvert, right?

Except that when I really think about it, social situations leave me drained and exhausted.  Sure, I had fun.  I probably laughed a TON.  But truthfully, after a while, I need quiet time to recharge.  And if given the option, I always choose quiet alone time over girls’ night outs.  (Even though those are SO good for my soul too.)  In fact, I’ve realized lately that whenever I blog about things like my 30th birthday, my dream vacation, and even what I want to do on Mother’s Day…it all revolves around solo time.

Can I hang in social, loud situations?  Totally.  But I need a break after a w

hile too.  Besides, small talk kinda makes me want to jump off a bridge.  Sit with a perfect stranger for three hours over coffee?  Perfection.  Ask me about the weather?  I want to die.

Turns out I’m an introvert.  Who knew?

Things like blogging conferences are this crazy mix of fun and reconnecting and networking and pitching and selling and card handing outing and question asking…all things I can enjoy.  But by the time I end up back in the hotel room, I’m asleep before my head has hit the pillow.  And I long for my quiet early mornings before much of anyone is awake.

Recharge.  I need it.  (p.s. this phone charging station at a blogging conference?  BRILLIANT.)

So for as much fun as I can have at these things, I also know that it’s pretty much a perfect recipe for a migraine.  Being worn out is a total migraine trigger for me.  Add the travel and packing and eating junk that also happens…no bueno.  Luckily, I was able to avoid a migraine at Mom 2.0, but it was touch and go for a bit there.  I popped a couple of Excedrin Migraine right when I felt a headache coming on, so I think I nipped it in the bud (is that the right saying?!).  Also, I totally realize how cheesy, sponsored post that sounds…but I’m 100% serious, it’s the truth.  Whether they sponsored my conference trip or not…I would have done that.  World’s easiest brand ambassadorship ever.

While I was there, Excedrin Migraine asked me to find a few bloggers to check out the My Migraine Triggers app and get back to me after a few days with a review.

I always started with “Hi!  Do you get migraines?”  If someone said no, I kinda wanted to punch them in the face.  Just because I was jealous.  But I didn’t.  Self-control.  Boom.

My favorite was when I asked Liz if she got migraines…and then I explained that I was sponsored by Excedrin Migraine and she stops me mid sentence and goes “Wait!  Hold on!…”

…and pulls a bottle out of her purse.  I mean, I couldn’t have planned that better if I tried!  (Told you this ambassador gig was easy!)  I know it’s blurry…but I assure you that’s a bottle.  I’m such a nerd.  I didn’t realize it was blurry until I saw it big on my computer screen.  FAIL.  Just trust me on this one, k?

In the end, I asked Alissa, Emily, and Liz to let me know what they thought of the app:

Seems like a common theme is surprise at what can be a migraine trigger.  I remember feeling that way too when I first saw the list that the app asked about.

So, all of that to say that blog conferences are fun, if not draining…I’m an introvert…and migraines are the worst.

Have you checked out the My Migraine Triggers app yet?  If you’ve downloaded it (it’s free in the iTunes store thing on your phone), what did YOU think about it?

Also, I agree with Emily…the graphs are really fun!

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

I had no idea about this app!! So cool. Can’t wait to download it. My mom says I was about 4 when I started getting bad headaches and I remember as a kid the doctor telling me it was ok to take up to 12 advil a day for them. And even then I remember feeling like, “why can’t we just figure out why I get them…” And I’m a total introvert, too, so blog conferences are both awesome and slightly terrifying for me as well. :) But yeah Excedrin Migraine. I will now only buy their medicine because of their awesome work with bloggers. And yeah for your ambassadorship!

    Siobhan says:

Excedrin migraine is the only medicine my husband and I use, it is the only one that works for us and we have tried many, I think it has to do with the caffeine in it. I seriously love the stuff and have an insane amount of bottles, in my car, husbands car, his work drawer, my kitchen cabinet , my purse, my bathroom. Seriously love the stuff! I buy it in bulk at Costco, kinda sad but true:). And I have recently discovered that I am an introvert as well , social situations drain me completely but I also so need times with my girlfriends:)

I loved the beginning of this article. It completely explains who I am – an extroverted introvert. That’s me. :) Thankfully I don’t suffer from migraines often. Maybe one or two a year. Blessings to you!

The goal is to FIND Excedrin migraine (hello, local Target store, I’m talking to YOU). It’s the miracle drug for sure. It works the best. I have cheated with a non-name brand migraine drug, and end up sucking down loads of coffee to go with it. Ack!

I’m an extrovert who likes alone time.

Or as I like to say, we are all uniquely unique in our uniqueness.

    Cheers,

I’m so glad to hear of this. My 15 year old son just had to start tracking his migraines before we go back to neurologist in a month. This app would make it much easier- I’m going to have him try it out.
And, I am an extroverted introvert too.

Started using the app last time you wrote about it and I love it! I knew what triggered my migraines, but it’s really helpful to keep track of how often I get them. I told my mom about it too and now she uses it!
