My Dream Vacation

Source: google.com via Jeannett on Pinterest

A friend of mine told me yesterday that she and her husband are going to Hawaii soon.

::swoon::

Just hours later, another friend told me they have a trip to France planned.

::dreamy::

My mother in law is going on a three week cruise to somewhere on the other side of the world this summer.

::magical::

At first, I felt the pang of jealousy.  Man, how come I don’t get to go on cool trips?!  I want to go somewhere fun too!

But can I tell you a little secret?

While all of those trips sound fabulous and amazing…all the packing, and organizing  and prepping, and finding someone to take care of your kids, and airports, and flights, and booking hotels…well…all of that kind of exhausts me just thinking about it.

You want to know what my dream vacation would be?  Right now.  At this season in my life.

One week.

Home.

Alone.

Crafting.  Sewing.  Painting.  Cutting.  Planting.  READING.

No interruptions.  No making lunches.  No asking questions.  No nothing.

Not even a husband.

Just me.  And nothing but the sound of my sewing machine whirring…my scissors snipping, paint mixing, and pages turning.

I would just sit and scroll through everything I’ve ever pinned and get to work.

There’s no question that lying on the beach sounds amazing.

Or that walking the cobblestone streets of Paris sounds heavenly.

Or seeing the 6th Wonder of the World would be breathtaking.

But I like to get stuff done.  Uninterrupted.  At my pace.  Whatever that may be.  And right now…that just doesn’t happen.

And you know…here’s the thing…someday, in not too many years, I will have all the time in the world with little interruption to do whatever to my heart’s content…

And I’ll wish the house was loud and messy again.

Funny how that goes.

I love you little family.  Even if I kinda want to send you away for a week.

 What’s your dream vacation?  Would you rather travel to far off places, or are you a secret homebody like me?

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

    I heart your honesty and totally ‘get it’. Been there, done that. I have 2 grown children 26 and 21 for a couple of years I had down time after work (the kids were working or doing their own thing), no huge cooking every night. Lots of quiet weekends in pj’s if I wanted. I LOVED getting things done. My life turned topsy turvey with the entrance of a 3 and a half year old. I am raising my nephew who is now 5. So I am back to the crazy on the go, never done years. While I know I am making a difference in the life of a child. I really really want a week off – no cooking, pj’s if I want, crafting, reading….ahhhhhhhh yes. Now that is a vacation.

    You’re so wise. I my case, I would take 2 weeks home alone! but England attracts me a lot also…

    My dream vacation is: getting all my pinning projects done — while vacationing somewhere exotic — right after I build a well somewhere desperate. With my kids. Who would be happy to be there, and not ever complaining about food or boredom or wells or pinning projects. With my husband. Who would actually do the digging. And who would bring me coffee and pastries in the morning.
    I can always dream.

    YES! I’d settle for two hours. I am never in the house alone!

    I was just saying yesterday that all I want is 4 hours straight without ANY interruption. Not even someone asking a question or telling me how cool john deere tractors are. I’m so desperate for time alone I hadn’t even thought to wish for a whole week!

    I’d just take dry ground anywhere right about now! I’m jealous of your outdoor pictures. But I’d rather have a staycation most days… I love home and hotel beds gross me out.

    I’d like a a week of travel and a week alone for me. I’ll settle for a weekend where my husband takes the kids out during the day!

    I’m right there with you! I always say that it would be my dream to have a day, but a week, now that would be truly amazing. To be in your home, completely quiet, working on whatever you’d like to your heart’s content. These are the things we don’t realize we took for granted before kids. I know one day a season will come when it will be too quiet and I’ll miss the chaos. I try to remember that. But this little vacation, a girl can still dream. :)

    Oh, I so know what you mean! Sometimes I have some moments alone in the house on a Saturday when the husband takes the oldest boys swimming and the triplets are asleep. It may only be 2 hours, but it’s bliss. Having said that. The travel bug is really itching at the moment. I’m pinned down by family life, but gosh, if we could, I’d love to take the family to New Zealand.

    As you can tell from my blog, I do quite a big of vacationing (don’t hate!). But my dream vacation? I guess, for a while now it’s probably been a tour of Italy, with all the amazing food included. But, my next big trip is to Abu Dhabi at the end of March. Meanwhile, this weekend I’m in nc, middle of Feb, I’m in DC, middle of March, I’m in northern VA….Ok, I”ll stop now. :-)

    Did a little of both last summer. Love hanging around my house by myself alone (luckily I have every other Friday off b/c I work 9 hour days, and can make that alone time happen regularly). BUT I do enjoy traveling. Right now we are hoping to get to Paris for Christmas with Miss A. Dreams and plans… Plans and dreams…

    Cheers,

    File this post in “Be Careful What You Wish For” category.

    I couldn’t agree with you more.
    I uttered those words countless times.

    And then I had to have my gallbladder out.
    And I got to be home alone for a week.
    And I didn’t get a single thing done.

    :)

    i have the same idea of a dream vacation. i can’t imagine all that i could get done in a week. at the end of the week, i would have a fabulous welcome home party for my family because i know i would miss them but it would be worth it for a week of peace.
