Ideas for Bringing It

Last week, I shared  what I said at Blog Sugar.

I also shared some ideas for practical application of it.

You know, the nuts and bolts ways you can Bring It.

Ways you can glorify Him, serve His people, and further His kingdom.

Do you have an organization that holds a special place in your heart?

Is there a cause that breaks a piece of you every time you think about it?

Do you have a family member struggling with a disease that you’d like to see more research and awareness for?

Tell your readers about it!  You can host a button, take a normal blog day and write about it, just sharing your feelings…other people may love to know about the organziation/cause and didn’t know it existed!  You’d be surprised!

Is your philanthropic cause of choice holding a big annual fundraiser?  Spread the word!  Heck, maybe YOU can even initiate your own fundraiser for it!

But maybe all of this overwhelms you.

And maybe you like the idea in theory, but the truth is, you’re just not sure you’re ready to take on spearheading a mini-campaign from your little corner of the internets.

I get it.  Trust me.  If anyone gets how hard it is to advocate and fundraise…I’m right there nodding my head.  It’s great and awesome…but it’s a lot of work.  Hard work.  Not trying to discourage a soul…just being honest.  (And I’m always open to emails if you’re wanting to host a fundraiser and not sure where to start or have questions.)

Now, hear my heart in the rest of this post please.  It may sound crazy self-serving, and it’s not how I mean it.  Kay?

If the idea of initiating your own campaign/fundraiser/awareness seems like more than you’re ready to bite off, or you’re not sure what you would even highlight…

Find someone else who is already doing it and jump on board.

If orphan care is something that moves you deeply, find a family fundraising for their adoption and help spread the word!

Do you want to join forces with a group of women crafting their way to funding a mama’s a new heart and double lung transplant?

Tweet!  Facebook! Stumble!  Tumble! Foursquare! Pin it!  And whatever other new fangled thing comes out next week.

Host a button on your blog.  Write a post.

Do some of these.  All of these.  One of these.  Just raise your hand and be a part of something bigger than yourself.

It’s the best kind of rad I can think of.

With the holidays just around the corner you won’t be at a loss of finding something to advocate for.  Promise.

The ripple effect of social media  is incredible.

Let’s use that ripple effect.  Let’s take advantage of it.  Let’s help those little bits of information spread out further and further…after all, the more eyes that see…the more eyes that read…the more hearts that feel…

Twitter doesn’t have to exist just so Kim Kardashian can show you what shoes she’s wearing today.

Let’s use Twitter in a way that the world didn’t expect.  Let’s rock Twitter for love and glory.

You don’t have to only pin cute crafts and yummy recipes.  Pin a blog post that messed you up that day.  In a good way.  Mess up someone else’s day.  In a good way.

Facebook doesn’t have to just be about telling your 700 “friends” that you had yogurt for breakfast.  Let’s own Facebook for serving His people.

Let’s take what the world intended for shallow, silly, (albeit fun) nonsense and use it in a way that says ‘I love this and you might too.  This is important to me and I think you should know about it.’

Social media rocks.  Now let’s use that resource and rock it right back.

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

Love this post. So motivating. The orphan care ministry I’ve been working on launches in less than a month, and I’m already discouraged about awareness and fundraising. Now I just want to get my rear in gear, suck it up, and “Bring It.”
