Nine!

Nine years ago today, Andy and I got married.

I suppose I could write a sappy lovey blog post for him.

All about how I love him and he’s so amazing and I couldn’t imagine my life without him.

While all of that is certainly true…

…sappy isn’t really our gig.

We’re more about being dorks, laughing, and being pranksters.

Case in point:

You know those little stick figure decals people have on their cars of their family?

Well, with no offense to any of you who may very well have a stick family on your rear windshield…it’s not something we would put up.

It’s just not our style, you know?

For years, I’ve teased Andy that if he really loved us, he would put up a stick figure family on his truck.

Was he ashamed of us?

Did he not want his “other girlfriend” to see that he was married with kids?

Was he too cool to admit he had a family?

It’s been an ongoing joke for a while.

So last week, when he was out of town on business, I took it upon myself to leave him with a little surprise.

Because this is the kind of stuff we do to each other.

I cut out a stick family with my silhouette.

And I made sure to use Comic Sans font for the lettering.

Because Comic Sans is too awfully perfect for this task.

First comes love…

Then comes baby in the baby carriage!

And then two more babies.

And a couple golden retrievers.

I was squealing with delight by now.

“He’s going to KILL me!  I can’t wait until he finds out!  It’s gonna be awesome!!!”

I let him drive around with the goofy little family for a full day, until I couldn’t handle it anymore and HAD to spill the beans.

Actually, I had Henry tell him.

Because I’m awesome like that.

It took 2.3 seconds until he marched right into the garage for a razor blade.

“If you mess with my truck again, this is what your sticker’s gonna look like!”

Bahahahaha!

Oh my.

Except that then Henry started crying that Daddy took off our family…and that made the joke not so funny anymore.

Mom of the year.  Right here.  I’ll be here to collect my plaque.

I realize that much of the humor in this might be lost on some of you.

But trust me…the fact that he went an entire day with this on his beloved truck is funny.  :)

Because see…we couldn’t even be serious at our own wedding!

Happy 9th Anniversary!

Way to put up with me for that long!!!

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

Ha!! LOVE it! No worries….we couldn’t even be serious at our own wedding either. Our “exit” song went something like this:

“If your mother doesn’t like the way i treat her baby boy it’s alright, it’s alright,
If in every wedding picture my daddy looks annoyed it’s alright, it’s alright,
Don’t you know that all the fairy tales tell lie
    real love in real life
    Doesn’t have to be perfect,
Baby every little piece of the puzzle doesn’t always fit perfectly,
love can be rough around the edges and tattered at the seams,
Honey if it’s good enough for you it’s good enough for me…”

    My grandma almost died.

    Happy Anniversary!

Oh I think that’s pretty stinkin’ hilarious. As it turns out, I JUST put those little stick figures on MY van. Sure, they are cute, but no, it’s not REALLY our style, either….I just did it so maybe people would see the cuteness instead of the BIG DENT that’s back there that will NEVER be fixed. Muahaha!
