Henry’s Room Part 2

As with every room in my house, decorating is an evolution of sorts.

My styles change and needs change.

I loved loved loved Henry’s first nursery in our old house.  But then we moved, and the checkerboard wall wasn’t going to make a repeat appearance.

His second nursery was a little more streamlined.

And before we knew it, we needed his crib for one of two sisters.

So he graduated to a big boy bed (at 20 months old!).

With time, I’ve added and changed and turned a nursery into a more grown up room for my more grown up boy.

Right at the entrance to his room is an amazingly detailed needlepoint my mother in law made…with his name, birthdate and birth stats.  It’s a tradition for her to make a needlepoint for the babies in the family.  So fun.

I’m always amazed at the trauma of a “go to your room!  you’re in a time out!” considering he has a giant spring horse, book full of shelves, and toy box in his room.

I have yet to tire of the fun eboo alphabet wall cards on what would otherwise be a big blank wall.  Even if I still don’t know what half of the drawings are.

I scored that nighstand at a flea market last summer.  I love that it’s tall and a stepping stool to get up into his bed!

A tiny alarm clock.  A 3 year old with an alarm clock you ask?  Yes.  Because I have taught him that he is not allowed out of his room until the appointed hour of 7:00.  No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

I love your sweet sleepy face, but you’re a lot less cute when the clock says 6.  Thanks.  Now get back in there.

And no, he can’t read chapter books.  Heck, he can’t read at all.  But we’ve been reading a chapter a night out of the ever classic Charlotte’s Web (which I scored for 50 cents at an estate sale last month!).

Love this quote.  Love.

I often find myself sitting in Henry’s room while the kids play and petting this quilt.

I honestly couldn’t be happier with it.

Fun, happy, BOYish, and the greatest combo of fabrics ever.

My mother in law so lovingly made this for us…after we sat on Hawthorne Threads for hours picking out just the right fabrics.  Fabric shopping is pretty much heaven on earth right?

A simple white wooden bookshelf (that was pink when I bought it on Craigslist for $10 last week!) lined with scrapbook paper…take no notice of the one sheet that is the wrong shade of orange.  Oops.

I should probably fix that.

Andy’s youth pastor made this sign for him in high school.  It hung in his dorm room and apartment all through college above his desk.

Now it lives in Henry’s room.  And somehow that makes me really really really happy.

(I need to laminate it or something before it disintegrates any more).

Hooks and a camo robe.  Because mornings can be chilly.  And tiny robes are quite possibly the cutest thing ever.

A vintage tin and puzzle letters.

The bed.

Oh, I die over the bed. I want to marry this bed.

IRON.  Heavy.  Crazy, crazy, crazy heavy.  Like, my 6’3″, exercises all the time husband found himself panting bringing it upstairs in pieces.

Graciously handed down to us from friends.

Antique.  Like, they had to have a mattress CUSTOM MADE for the bed.  It’s a twin length, but a tad wider than a regular twin bed.

Because I know you’ll ask: Regular sheets mostly fit…one corner sort of hangs on for dear life, but they work.

And I love it.  And still feel really guilty that they didn’t make us pay for it.

And for the record, Henry’s room looks just like this EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

Really.

Everyday it’s all picked up and happy and bright and perfect.

For about 12 minutes.

And then it looks like a tornado went through it.

Just wanted to keep it real.  ;)

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

I love the quilt! Thanks for the inspiration! I’ve been at a loss for what kind of quilt I’ll make for our boy since I’m so used to making quilts with pinks and flowers for the girls.

Quilt inspiration came from Lindsey’s “Boy Quilt.” Have to give credit where credit is due. It was so fun picking fabrics across the room on our dueling computers, Jeannett! Our tastes are soooo different, but I love the finished product. And I so love the quilting pattern. Someday when I grow up I want one of those fancy, big, computerized quilting machines! The room looks great. And thanks for the grandma post. Pictures are wonderful. Love all the hair – the piggies and the spikes.

In love with that sweet sign. Our youth pastor only teased us and stole our food. No cute verse signs. We got the shaft.

I want you to decorate my room. Honestly. I love it! And the “I” sign would be perfect for my daughter. That is her favorite verse and she had it inscribed on her letterman’s jacket (well the address – there was a football player who had the whole verse inscribed on the back of his jacket). And I love the colors and how neat it all looks…for 12 minutes. hahaha

AH! I love this blog and I love that boys room! We bought Levi (our 8 month old) eboo wall alphabet cards and I had no idea how to put them up (and now I do, thanks to you). I’m in no way creative or artistic, so I steal when I can!
