Jeannett’s water broke literally as I walked in the door from basketball at church tonight. So this whole homebirth thing is about to go up in smoke since Brenda is still out of town, this has just happend too fast. Whatever Dr. Safarik did, it worked, and I think I’m going to kill him.
Anyways, here’s a shot of Jeannett’s sterile toilet paper cooking in the oven. The point with this is to use it exclusively when your water is broken in the hope that you won’t actually go into labor for a delayed period of time. The paper is sterile, which it needs to be since the baby is no longer protected by the bag from the outside world. So, that is what we are praying for….at the earliest tomorrow night (Friday) and prayerfully more like Saturday morning. But we’ll see, she’s having contractions on and off, but nothing consistent yet, hopefully she can fall asleep and it’ll stop for a while.
But I still have the sinking feeling it is bye-bye home birth, hello French (not Marion, I’ll deliver this baby myself first). Her bag is packed and we’re prepared for it, but I won’t be a happy camper until I’m holding my son. After all of this preparation, a conventional hospital birth sounds just miserable because it is so unnecessary (no offense hospital birthers). But, the big G-O-D wins, everytime. Humbling.
Just for the record though, it is not for a medical reason, but because we have no midwife. Remember that.

i am so, so sorry that you might have to do a hospital birth. i prefer that myself, but i know how much you guys were wanting a home birth. i think we all were hoping you could do that. thank you for the updates. we are on pins and needles!!
