Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

Are happening at the Gibson House! We had a yard sale this morning to mainly get rid of the bedroom set that used to be in guest bedroom, as well as a bunch of other odds and ends we had taking up space. The guest room is slowly being converted to a nursery, and I really was bummed to get rid of the set. It was super cute, but super girly…and we didn’t really have anywhere to store it on the chance of having a girl later. My plan was to use the money we made from the sale to buy a crib. Andy laughed at me and swore we would only make $50…if we were lucky. Yea, well, $285 later, we were on our way to Johnsons! (I had bought the bedroom set at a yard sale when we first moved to this house 2 years ago for $40…and sold it for $100!!! Sweet!) Oh, and while my sale wasn’t supposed to officially start until 7 am, we had sold about 50% of our stuff by 6:45 am! People are insane! There were probably 200-250 people that came by throughout the morning. We had a few odds and ends left over at the end and dropped them off at Goodwill.

When we got to Johnsons, we went round and round about what type of crib to get. A cheaper, traditional crib…or the more expensive convertible cribs that will turn into a toddler bed and then later, a twin bed. I really didn’t want to spend a ton of money on a crib, but at the same time, we decided, that while cheaper in the short term, a traditional crib would end up being used for babies only and then get sold at…you guessed it, a yard sale. The convertible crib, while pricey, could be used for years and years. So, we got the expensive one. (The irony of this is that Andy and I don’t even have a bed! We just have a mattress on the metal stand and I made a headboard a la Trading Spaces from plywood covered in fabric!) And as a side note to those of you in the market for a crib…be prepared if you want white: it costs $50 MORE than any other finish! I have no idea why this is, because it seems to me that you do the same work whether you’re applying a cherry stain or white paint?! (And yes, I had my heart set on white…I figure this kid will have his whole life to have black or blue or whatever furniture).
