Ants in My Pants

I’m getting antsy about finding out the sex of this kid. Come on people, I have planning to do! Pink or blue? Flowers or airplanes? Monster trucks or tea sets? I much too much of a control freak to wait for a surprise. There’s painting and decorating and…

For the longest time, neither Andy or I really had a gender preference. But, it’s practically a full scale war now. I have officially decided that I want a girl. Andy has officially decided he wants a boy. So, I go out of my way to refer to the baby as “she” to which he responds “he”. It’s kinda funny actually. Really, it doesn’t matter…but we joke about it anyway. Andy says that the girl toys are boring. He wants the transformers and basketballs littering the house. I think that boy clothes are boring. I want barettes and glittery mary janes strewn about. It’s almost too bad we’re not having twins and then we would have a chance at one of each! I’d actually LOVE to have twins…maybe not as the first pregnancy, but it would be awesome at some point. Unfortunately, I don’t have much control over the issue. :)

I have a midwife appointment next Thursday, the 22nd. At that point, Brenda is going to make an ultrasound appointment for us with one of her doctor friends. She’s not thrilled with the idea and just shakes her head at my insistence. Oh well. Brenda thinks that ultrasounds are great tools and a big help…if you need them. Like, if you think something is wrong or you’ve been in an accident or something. But, she also thinks that the sound waves are bad for the developing baby and that you shouldn’t use the technology for “silly things” like finding out (as she says) “if it has a penis or not”. But, just like I told her…I know, but I still don’t care. So there. (And actually, she’s really not that far off her rocker about it…studies for both sides of the ‘are ultrasounds safe’ coin are inconclusive. There’s varying levels of proof that it’s harmful, but there’s also no real evidence that it’s not.) So, I figure that if I get one I’ll be okay. Besides, with all the contaminants in the air, water and food we eat, this kid will be exposed to a ton of bad stuff eventually.

So, hopefully we’ll have some idea in the next three weeks or so. Andy refuses to even begin the name game…he figures that we shouldn’t waste our time talking about boy names if it’s a girl and vice versa. So, anytime I try to bring it up, he shuts me down pretty quickly. Poop.

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

I have NO CLUE how people go the whole 9 months not finding out the baby’s sex!!! I’m so excited you’re going to find out, in spite of the midwife’s warnings. :)

I was so happy when we found out we were having a girl again. Boys are great too but I can’t picture birthing/having a newborn baby boy. Kinda weird.
