CRASH!

Babe? What was that?

Is a baby crying?

No. That big crash…did you hear it?

Oh…yeah…

Crap…was it…

The tree. (Andy had picked it back up before I took a pic).

We left it alone not wanting to deal with it at that moment and crawled back into bed.

It took me 2 hours to finally fall back asleep.

I was sick.

Thinking about the destruction we would find when we picked it up in the morning.

Unfortunately, my fears were right.

The last time (yes, there was a last time…I don’t know why we have this problem with trees…although talking about it this morning, we think we might just have trees that are too big for the stand) we only lost about 3 or 4 glass bulbs. No biggie.

This time the tree fell onto the hard floor.

Not carpet like last time.

My Tinkerbell tree top? About 25 pieces.

Almost every glass bulb we had left…shattered.

But worst of all?

Many “irreplaceable” ornaments…things we were given by family members…ornaments we had given each other…gone. (I say “irreplaceable” in quotes because we could probably find many of the Hallmark ones on ebay…but at a price).

My mom *just* had these darling ornaments made for the kids with their picture and a personalized saying. They were beautiful. Two out of three are done. And not “hey, just glue it together…” but literally DUST…

We were sick to our stomachs sweeping it all up this morning.

I know they are just THINGS. I know that it really doesn’t MATTER…it’s just a really. big. bummer.

We did have two blessings with all of this: 1) that when Tink slammed into the glass coffee table…IT didn’t shatter too…2) this didn’t happen when there were kids playing nearby.

Now, I get to re-decorate with what we have left.

I had nothing else to do today. Really.

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

I am so sorry. I am also very attached to my ornaments and would be devastated to lose many of them.

oh, jeannett! that is so sad. i'm so sorry! i know how you feel about ornaments being special–I feel the same way. it is a praise that the kids weren't playing right there when it crashed. i have a bunch of blue and white glass balls if you want to borrow them. (that was when I was going for the all-in-one–Christmas with Hannukah colors.) anyway, if you want to borrow them, let me know.

okay, ladies – forward 30+ years (yes our first Christmas was 41 years ago)and no I don't have very many of our original ones because they were bought all in one day (I do still have the earrings I got though!!)However, in the years that followed we have received many, many precious ornaments as well as the very first ones our kids made!! Yes, I am VERY sentimental about them too! A few minutes ago I almost had the tree on me putting more ornaments on it. Peter is now wiring it to the ceiling!!!!
