National Geographic + Angry Birds + Star Wars = Kid Heaven {giveaway}

***Giveaway Closed.  Winners were comments, 23, 5, &4.****

Henry is my kid who loves all things facts, science, and space.

While he certainly enjoys a story or fairy tale, if given the option he will always choose books that are filled with “factoids”.  Little blurbs of information.  Explanations for how things work.  Answers to the burning questions in his 6 year old mind.

So it should come as no surprise that he (we) have long been fans of anything National Geographic Kids.

Further, it should be of no surprise that I squealed out loud when I was invited to be a NatGeo Kids Insider.  I mean, hello?  Is there another brand out there that would be cooler to partner with?  (Okay, maybe someone who pays for daily massages and hair washings or something.)

Recently, Nat Geo Kids has partnered with Angry Birds to create an entire series of books.

In this case, as if Angry Birds wasn’t enough, they’ve added Star Wars.

The byline of the book: The Science Behind the Saga.

Henry Jackpot.

IMG_0179

Using familiar feathered faces, the book lays out many of the different aspects of the movies and whether they are real…completely fake…or even remotely possible.

IMG_0184

In the case of the pic above, it turns out that there is a light saber-esque device that is the size of a flashlight and emits a blade of flame that can actually cut through metal.

Of course, this was of great interest to my boy.  Of course.

(It’s called the Metal Vapor Torch and intended for use for emergency personnel…as in cutting people out of cars and such.  Cool, yeah?)

IMG_0180

The book analyzes each of the lands/planets/whatevers in Star Wars and whether any of the planets in our solar system are similar.

Stuff like that.
IMG_0182

Divided up into topics like “Science Fiction” and “Science Facts” it’s a completely different way of teaching kids about space and technology.

And makes me feel a lot smarter than I actually am.

Did you even know that Nat Geo makes kids books?

And not just because I’m an “Insider”, but honestly, they are all so awesome.  Bright, vivid photography, heavy duty binding, and chock full of information.  Basically, everything Nat Geo is known for.

If Star Wars isn’t your kid’s cup of tea, they also have Angry Bird versions of space, birds, an atlas, seasons, and dinosaurs.

Think your kids (or you!) would love this?

Nat Geo Kids is generously offering THREE readers the chance to win a copy of the Angry Birds Star Wars book!

Just leave a comment below telling me what you love most about National Geographic!  That’s it!

One entry per person.

I’ll pull the three winners on Friday, November 15th!

Good luck!

I’ll have more NG giveaways coming up soon!  So stay tuned!

I am a National Geographic Kids Insider, however I was not compensated for this post or my participation in the program.  We were supplied with a copy of the book, and a subscription to Nat Geo Kids magazine.

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

We love National Geographic too! We have been waiting for the Angry Birds Star Wars book to come out. At my boy’s birthday party I always buy a book that goes with the theme of the party and all the kids at the party sign it. We’ve done it for years and its so fun to look back and see who celebrated with us and how much they’ve gotten better at signing their name. Wes had an Angry Birds Star Wars party in August and this book didn’t come out until Sept so we couldn’t use it for his bday book. He would LOVE this book.

Our family has a deep undivided love for National Geographic. No, seriously, the magazines are taking over my house. Even though my husband has them all on his computer, every time we find ourself in a thrift store, one or two more seem to make their way home. ‘Look! An article about Yosemite. We have to get this one.’ :) My daughter loves books as much as my husband loves Nat’l Geo. And, she just saw Star Wars for the 1st time. This book would make me a rock star!!
