The Stuff They Don’t Tell You

The Bad News: Henry had stomach flu on Monday.  As moms well know, the latin for flu roughly translates as “massive amounts of never ending laundry and changing sheets.”

The Good News: He’s over it now.

The Bad News: Jill had a seizure on Monday.  The last time she had the flu, she had a seizure, so I assumed it was because she was coming down with Henry’s bug.  Three days of crying jags and assorted grumpiness that comes with said events.

The Good News: She’s over it now.

The Bad News: Lucy woke up puking on Saturday morning.  Again with the laundry.

The Good News: She’s over it now.

The Bad News: Jill woke up from her nap on Sunday…you guessed it…with sheets needing changed.  Apparently she wasn’t coming down with flu earlier in the week.  Lots of praying, worrying, and phone calls to doctors (who may now regret giving me their personal cell phone numbers!) that this wouldn’t trigger a second seizure in less than a week.

The Good News: No seizure.  She’s over it now.

The Bad News: This mama spent the night bowing to the toilet gods.

The Good News: I’m a big girl so there was no extra laundry.  I’m over it now.  (Although deathly afraid of eating or drinking anything).

The Bad News: Daddy rushed out of bed at 5 this morning beelining for the bathroom.

The Good News: Hopefully, it’ll only last a few hours if it’s the same as it was for the rest of us.

This is the stuff they don’t tell you in the baby books.

That Preschool is of the devil.

That no one gets sick at the same time.

So instead of 3 miserable days, it’s like 9 days of quarantine hideousness.

That YOU, the grown up, gets sick a lot more than ever you did when you were an unattached single person.

That if your spouse is sick, you might as well find yourself a second bucket because you’re going down too.

That your water bill this month is going to be astronomical between all the laundry and extra showers.

That it’s impossible to go to church consistently when you have three kids.  Someone’s always got something going on.

I should write a book.

“The spit up and bleeding nipples and stretch marks are just the beginning.  Just wait until someone starts school.”

I’ll be a millionaire.

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

And if you were a millionaire, I’m guessing you’ve give most of it away.
    It could happen.

The sickest winter I ever had (and Duncan too) was when Andy started kindergarten. He never got sick, just brought all the bugs home to share. So sorry it’s been terrible. Hope it’s better this week.

We went through the same thing, but here’s the rub. It started with our 16 year old, then nine year old and finally our 12 year old. It doesn’t end at preschool I’m afraid.

Amen and amen. If either one of my boys gets sick, I can guarantee the other one is going to get it. There was a stomach bug going around our church’s childrens department pretty bad. My youngest brought it home and it went exactly like you said. Once he was over it, my oldest got it, then me, then my husband.

I’ll never forget taking a shower, finally feeling better, when I heard some noises outside of the shower. I look out only to see my husband leaning over the toliet with the chicken fettuccine he had eatten for dinner in the toliet. Good times.

This sounds a lot like how my last 5 days have been going. I feel your pain. I have 3 kids, ages 1-3 and a husband who is my biggest kid. I’m exhausted. I’m pretty sure I’m next.

If only colicy babies and over engorged breasts, really was the worst of it.

Can’t wait to have the next one!! :)

SO SO SO true!!!! Honestly, I feel like I ALways catch stuff from my kids (in spite of good practices like eating pretty well, getting enough sleep and good hand-washing.) The thing is, you can’t avoid your sweet 2 year old when she has the flu! Right before Thanksgiving, I caught the stomach virus Kaitlyn had already gotten over, spending an entire night running to the bathroom. Thankfully it was short-lived overall, but SHEESH! And, yep, nobody EVER gets sick at the same time, amounting to weeks on end of illness. Grrrrrrr.

Here’s hoping for some good health ahead in the Gibson house!!!!
