I’ve mentioned that we’re knee deep in a kitchen update a few times.
Painting, painting, and then some more painting.
But now…the painting (besides touch up work) is done!
I. Am. Ecstatic.
I love it.
Love it.
It brightens up the room so much.
And it looks so…CLEAN.
Wanna see?
Here’s a picture of my kitchen before.
Builder grade cabinets in honey oak.
Not terrible. Not horrific. But not great either.
Just kinda dated looking, you know? (and the house was built in 2006!)
Eek! It’s white!
With the white countertops still on, it’s REALLY white.
Too much white.
See the old cabinets that we hadn’t painted yet sitting on top of the counter?
What a difference!!!
Isn’t it just so fresh and clean and happy looking?!
And we put up our pretty Barn Light pendants.
Love it.
Don’t mind that I need more papertowels. :)
…
And then…
yesterday.
They pulled up my old countertops!!!!
EEK!
With each barrel of tile they carried out of my house, I saw nasty, gross white grout leaving my life.
No more toothbrush and bleach time! Woohoo!
I couldn’t believe how time consuming and tedious this process was.
I guess I thought they kinda unscrewed a few things and lifted it out. Notsomuch.
Oh wait, that dude? With the camera?
That’s Dave. He’s from Minnesota.
He works for the PR company that represents Wilsonart.
You see, the fine folks at Wilsonart are giving me new countertops (!!!) in exchange for participating in a film series of the process for their own blog.
It’s embarrassing to be on film.
And it’s solidified my stance on never, ever, ever being on a reality TV show (not that I’ve been approached, just saying.)
I’m not complaining. But it’s just weird to have your every move filmed all day.
For three days.
My pretty, pretty hardware.
From House of Antique Hardware.
Great prices, pretty stuff, and a fab return policy.
(No affiliation with them, just telling you in case you need the recommendation because hardware shops online are overwhelming.)
After a long morning of dust and noise, this is what was left.
I love it even more now that it’s less white.
But especially because those awful countertops are gone.
I can’t wait to see my new counters.
The color is called Raven Gemstone…it’s basically black.
So excited to see the contrast!
The bad news is that I’m left with no counters today. (They come tomorrow morning to install).
So today is basically gonna stink.
Not quite sure how I’m gonna feed three kids breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Maybe I’ll just let them starve. It’s just one day, right?
Kidding. Relax.
Look ma! No sink!!!
In addition to no counters, they also jacked my sink.
Which means I have no water in the kitchen.
(But it also means I get a new sink and a new faucet!)
Which means I have this pile of dirty dishes that I somehow have to wash in my tiny bathroom pedestal sink.
Fun times.
But we still have coffee.
Because you just can’t function without the Giver of Energy and Happiness.
A bit much?
Maybe.
But definately a necessity.
Can’t wait to show you pictures of the finished product!
So exciting!
{Disclosure: Countertops being provided by Wilsonart in exchange for participating in their film series. I was not required to blog about it on my own blog but it’s fun so I thought I’d share!)
So far it looks terrific! I cannot wait to see the new countertops!! Yay-so excited for you :)

AMAZING! You gotta tell me how you managed to paint your cabinets without all the brush strokes showing!
I would love to paint our kitchen cabinets but being renters I don’t want to put any time and money into a place that’s not ours, ha!
Can’t wait to see the new counters – good JOB you guys, looks great!

i love it!!! there’s nothing quite as gratifying as ripping out tiled countertops, is there? we had them before we remodeled and i disliked them in way i didn’t think possible. i’m in the love with your pops of turquoise. and your pendants. oh, and your red mugs.

It could be worse. You could have had to move to get rid of your bleach and toothbrush. Although it was TOTALLY worth it. So one yucky day will be nothing after you have beautiful new countertops! Excited for you!!! You are going to love them.
How exciting! Can’t wait to see it finally complete. :) I love your sense of humour in it all.

Love it! Nothing is better than a white kitchen! We went through the same thing! I don’t know what we would have done without family and friends helping out! Looking good!
I LOVE the change! It’s going to be so beautiful with the countertops; great contrast! Can’t wait for the final product because the “inbetween” is so good already!!
Ok, I’m having serious kitchen envy. Well…. not the cleanup!
I have a “two butt” kitchen and hardly any counter space. (think 70’s house) and I’m drooling with your transformation. How lucky you are!!!
