It’s not a dire situation.
Actually, it kinda is.
You see, Henry’s room has always had this big blank wall.
I never really knew what to do with it and it drove me batty with it’s blank blueness.
Enter these absolutely, postively, cutest alphabet wall cards by eeBoo.
*swoon*
They aren’t too baby-ish, they really are helping him learn his letters, and they have a funky, hand drawn, etsy-esque feel to them.
Love.
But here’s the problem:
Apparently, that other really expensive piece of wall art in my house…namely, my college diploma…has done nothing to make me smart enough to interpret CHILDREN’s FLASH CARDS.
Blasted university! I tried to tell them that chemistry was a total bore and completely unnecessary in my everyday life!
But things like children’s watercolor paintings?! There was no 101 class for THAT!
Who’s in charge of this stuff? I’m going to the Dean!
Okay, I’m done now.
But really…take a look at a couple of cards that I am smart enough for:
A: Alligator, Apron, Artist, Apple, Airplane.
B: Bear, Bike, Basket, Blueberries, Butterfly, Birch trees.
Yay for me!
Moving on…
P is for: Pig, Pail, Pickles, Pumpkins, Pansies, and Pine Trees.
HOLLA!
And then.
I kid you not. The VERY FIRST card that Henry pointed to and wanted explanation on was THIS one:
Butterfly? Moth? Uganda? Wait, that’s a country. But it starts with U. And I guess he doesn’t know that.
UMBRELLA! YES!
But what on God’s green earth is that winged creature????
And the berries? What plant starts with U?
Any botanists reading my blog???
Next is Q.
Queen bee. Yeah, got it. (Although of all things?! It’s a stretch.)
But what’s that little house thingy in the tree???
And we are back to being flora and fauna illiterate.
No clue.
I…my first thought was egret…but obviously, that starts with the letter E.
Jay kay.
No idea.
None.
(Unrelated: how cute is that hedgehog???!!!)
And finally X.
Obviously we have Xylophones and Xiphias (whatever that is)…
but is that horse looking thing something X like?
And look, fancy X-Flowers!
Right.
Truly, I need your help.
Because honestly, it’s stressful.
I always try to skip over those cards and of course, distractions do nothing for my inquisitive almost 3 year old.
Speaking of helping…
Have you read Cora’s story?
Have you considered helping Kate’s family?
Think about it.
Join in.
Let’s love on another mama and encourage her.
Happy Weekend!
Hahahah, I remember when he pointed to that insect.
That was so funny!
I’m glad they’re all sticking to the wall now :p
Those are hard! The flowers in Q are Queen Annes Lace. That’s all I’ve got.
I is for Ibis–it’s a kind of bird. Only know that from studying Egypt this year. Yeah, those eeboo cards have some weird things. We have a different set and some of the animals they chose are uncommon.
I is for Ibis (the bird)… as for X – the horse-looking animal in the doorway may be a Xantis (it’s an animal kinda like a yak). As for the U… there is a species of butterfly called a “Ulysses Butterfly” – but they are predominantly blue… so, maybe not. LOL.
Q – Queen Anne’s lace (flowers)… will research more!!
So…. All the answers I had have already been given…man, I was hoping to be furst and look all smart, dang it! Good luck with the rest!
In the “P” card, the tree in the background, behind the pines, is a persimmon tree.
J is for Jack in the Box and juggling…can’t see the smaller things!
.-= Shannon´s last blog ..Random Revelation =-.
And the U card, it’s a urania moth
Lol! too funny. All I’ve got for you is the jackrabbit is juggling. and is that a jeep in the background? Perhaps they are just going for sounds… as in b-u-tterfly and th-u-nderstorm. ?? Good luck with the tougher ones! haha!
I reckon the U card is a butterfly… kids need to learn the sounds that letters make inside of words as well as at the beginning… and, well, the second ‘sound’ in the word butterfly is made with a ‘U’.
:) Enjoy… I am sure half the fun is working them all out!
I love that you put
Jay Kay.
Adding to the vernacular.
Along with Ibis.
Did you never have to read The Scarlet Ibis in high school? Lucky. Because it was crap. Better than Twilight, but still crap.
.-= Julie´s last blog ..assorted assortment. =-.
I also note that the jackrabbit is wearing a jumper!
there flowers in I are iris’ (my fave)
Love to know what the door in the tree is??
oops, i meant ‘ the’ flowers in I!
j-jelly, jam, jack in the box, juggling
I automatically thought of UVAS for the u called which is grape in spanish but that doesn’t help him with his sounds in English so much.
My first thought was…
“That pig is wearing PUMPS!”
Very cute cards. Thanks for sharing!
Hi! I wanted to let you know that bird in the flash card for the letter “i” is an ibis. My husband and dad are crazy birders so I knew right away! Now you don’t have to skip that one anymore.
The pig is walking on a Path – and it looks like a Peaches tree in the background.
Ibis are annoying birds where I come from (they are pests here down under).
We have these cards in the church nursery. According to the box U is an underwing…hope that helps :)
The moth is also UNDER the umbrella :)
