InstaFriday

Simple, everyday moments make up our lives.

If we’re not careful, we’ll miss it.

Capture it in all its grainy glory using nothing but a cell phone.  I use the Instagram app (I’m jeannettg…follow!), but you can use any old cell phone camera you want…app or no app!

P.S. Instagram is now available on Android as of this week!  If you haven’t already, whatcha waitin’ on???

I made Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake. (I cheated though and made the cake part from a box mix I doctored up…)

The kids get to lick the batter, and it’s pretty much their favorite thing in all the land.

In case you were wondering, Lucy did get some in her mouth.  I think.

And as for being shirtless…well, we’re going through a stage right now: if Daddy and brother can take off their shirts, why can’t she???

I’m just glad the stage comes now at 2…not 15, you know?

Sigh.

Having Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake on your counter is pretty much an open invitation to eat a slice whenever you see it.

In this case: Breakfast.

Look, pair it with a tall glass of milk, and I’m not sure how it’s any different than my cousin who slathers peanut butter on  a chocolate chip pancake AND THEN still covers it in syrup.

Mine’s just less messy.

And better.

Friends of our gifted Henry some hand me down elaborate loop de loop Hot Wheels track (grrrr….).

I’m not sure who is enjoying it more: Dad or Boy.

I swear they don’t really grow up.  It’ll be the same when Andy’s 80, helping with great grandchildren, I just know it.

(P.S. this is what you do on Saturday mornings when you don’t have TV to flip on mindlessly…)

Remember how I told you I had a hankering to quilt?

Well, I haven’t done that yet, but I decided that I wanted to make my girls Easter dresses this year.  I’ve never made them any kind of dress yet (and they’re almost 3!), so I thought this was a perfect excuse to get my craft on and knock off one of those quintessential Things Moms Do Because They Are Insane And Clearly Like To Give Themselves More Work Unnecessarily Especially When Target Has Ridiculous Cute Pre Made Dresses For A Lousy Ten Bucks.

Ahem.

Ohmygoodness Jilly was so excited to have her pretty dress on.

She actually threw a fit when I took it off.

It’s mostly done…I just have to wait until my Mother In Law gets here…because I’m quite chagrined to admit that I can sew these little dresses, but I don’t know how to sew on a button to save my life.

I love both dresses, but I want to marry this green fabric.

They whipped up quicker than I thought they would (and I am a TERRIBLE sewer).  I just followed this tutorial…save but one step that made NO SENSE, so I hacked it, they were quick and easy…totally do-able for even a non-expert sewer.

Now for some matching headbands, and you can stick a fork in it.

He begged and begged and begged for me to teach him how to sew.

Which is ridiculous on its face since I have no business teaching much of anyone anything to do with sewing…but I finally agreed to let him stitch a few scraps together…as long as he kept his hands far, far away from the needle area.  I had visions of threaded fingers and trips to the ER with an entire sewing machine in tow.

Note the location of the foot pedal.

I find the weirdest things sometimes.

The horse is apparently dead.  Or really cold.  Or…?

After the rocket launch, I agreed to let the kids play in the nastiness that is the playplace at McDonald’s (grrooooossssss).

But it came with serious, I’m not even kidding, do not test me because I will do it, threats of “do NOT get stuck up there…if you get stuck, you will live there forever and ever because I am NOT climbing my 6 month pregnant self up there to rescue you.  That means you better help your sister too.  I don’t care which one of you it is…I don’t like either of you that much.”

Okay, kidding on the last part.

Kind of.

Our adventures at the museum continue (we meet there every Wednesday for Jill’s speech therapy)…this week, the kids made kites while being filmed by the local news station for a segment.

I’m glad I wore actual clothes and not just yoga pants that day.

Phew.

Simple mercies.

I think she’s hungry.

Girlfriend has been getting into EVERYTHING lately.  She exhausts me.

Undercover Naughty.

Let’s not talk about the 500 pack of napkins she distributed throughout the kitchen a few weeks ago…

And this.

Husband was on the other side of the country on business for four days this week.

(P.S.  MAD PROPS to every single mom out there.  Totally not kidding.  You guys are my heroes.)

He got in after midnight on Wednesday…and still got the coffee pot ready so that my coffee would be hot and piping waiting for me just five hours later.

That, my friends, is true love.  And I’m totally not kidding.

I did good.  Real good.

And I really didn’t even know how good when we said “I do” almost ten years ago.  Which is pretty awesome.

Now it’s your turn!  Grab a button, link up, and leave some comment love on at least 2 other InstaFridayers!  (It’s nice, that’s all.)

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

Oh and hey the cake for breakfast it was peanut butter so that’s protein! they always say to power up your day with protein right?

Wow! Awesome work on the Easter dresses! And I love, love, love your fabric combos! You inspire me to get on it and make a dress for my daughter. Thanks for posting the link to the tutorial. I am seriously giddy thinking about dress possibilities! And the horse under the blanket is hilarious! So often I stumble upon the oddest arrangements around the house and just laugh to myself and say, “What?!”

    Mary Kay says:

I’d like to take credit for raising Andy that way, but I think he gets his “good husband” gene from my dad, who was one of the most sincerely thoughtful people ever. This post made me smile over and over – thanks. And I’ll be there soon to sew on any buttons needed ;).

I’m a little late to the link up, but I’m new to instagram & definitely looking forward to checking out others photos & finding new people to follow! Thanks for the hosting such a fun link up!!

And my mom constantly reminds of the time she had to climb up to the top of the play structure at the park when she was 7 months pregnant because my 2-year-old self was too scared to come down. And then a line of kids formed behind her and she had to go down the twisty slide with me on her lap. Haha, I wish I had a picture :)
