It’s tradition.
Or obsession.
Call it what you will.
There is an In N Out on Sepulveda Blvd. in Westchester.
I could have stopped at In N Out and that would have been fine.
But this particular one is situated at the very end of one of LAX’s runways.
Across from said burger joint is what is nothing more than an oversized street median.
Where you can grab your milkshake goodness and watch as planes come in from their ocean crossing flights.
This may not sound entirely impressive…
but really.
I’m not a machinery tom-boy-esque kind of girl.
And this is possibly one of the coolest things ever.
Ever.
The gigantic airplanes fly overhead so so so so close.
So close.
You seriously feel like you can touch them.
Or at the very least hit them with a baseball.
It is pretty intense to have a 747…which is HUGE in case you aren’t sure…
fly so. stinking. close.
(p.s. this plane is NOT a 747. Before someone, you know, corrects me).
The wind of the plane flying over hits you a full 10+ seconds AFTER it’s gone overhead.
(I’m sure Andy will correct me here and tell me that no, it’s not 10 seconds, but 11.78 seconds or something equally precise…engineers…)
Seriously. Super. Fun.
For as long as Andy and I were just young dating pups, we have visited the grass strip, sipped a milkshake and watched planes land.
Henry pretty much died and went to Heaven.
As would any kid.
So just take my word on this one…
take the afternoon and make the trip if you are near enough.
Worth every minute.
(p.s. Andy took every single one of these pictures)
Phillip and I also have an In n Out dating tradition. We would sit and drink milkshakes and listen to radio dramas. I got fined 10 cents per minute after midnight I got back to the dorms so we would keep looking at the clock and digging around for dimes so we could listen to “just one more”. :) I wonder how many other romantic In n Out stories are out there?
First time to visit! “I’ll be back!” We have place like this that we visit just cuz it’s cool to us. Thanks for sharing!
I grew up in Cali but sadly never knew about that In n Out location. I can not even begin to tell you just how badly I could use a double double and a chocolate shake today. The closest one to me is 6 hours away … one way. *sigh* Maybe in December I will get my burger and shake. :)
Beautiful photos :) I am loving your new camera

Brian and I went to In n Out for dinner on our wedding night!
I have eaten at that one a bunch of times. That place never gets old.
Cheeseburger, Neo Shake and Animal Fries. Every time.

Sounds like a fun and yummy eXcursion! The “…or something equally precise…engineers…” remark made me laugh. (I can relate)

Been there a couple of times. Once when Heather was leaving LA. When she came to LA a week before, we picked her up from the airport and drove her to the train station. Then when she was heading back to LAX with her mom, we arranged to meet and we had lunch before she left to go back to TX. Was fun to see her, her mom and meet her aunt. I took a couple of pics of the planes and the sign together. I thought it was cool. Anytime anyone wants to meet there, I’ll come. It’s not far from us.

I love that In N Out. Love it. But I haven’t been there with the kids yet. Where could I fly that would make me take that detour…

What a great idea! My little guy would LOVE to do that sometime and I’m pretty sure I could convince myself to grab some In-n-Out. We go watch the planes at the little airport near our house but it’s nothing like that. Thanks for the tip! =)
Those are awesome shots!!! I especially love the one of the plane and the runway!
