Mornings, Strange Feelings, and the Disneyland Hotel

I wrote a post the other day about how blogging has changed dramatically and QUICKLY.

And you guys were so incredible and kind in your response.

And you made it pretty clear that you didn’t need Life Lesson posts every time.  Which is a huge relief because honestly?  I’m in no position to be giving life lessons anyway.  The Good Lord knows I don’t have A SINGLE THING figured out.  I’m just bumbling and fumbling and MESSING UP every day along the way.

I feel like Life Lessons should be monopolized purely by 98 year old mamas.  Not 33 year old ones who have no clue whether or not her young kids will grow up to like cowboys or be ax murderers.

So today, I’ll share photos I’ve been hanging onto that I like, from a morning I loved, that not a single one of you will share because it’s not even one iota shareable.

And that’s okay.  Thank you.

Remember how last month we went to Disneyland?

Well, the fine folks at Disney treated my little ragtag bunch to a night at the Disneyland Hotel.  Which was such a fun treat because we can’t really afford to stay there under normal circumstances.

Saturday morning my crew woke up early.  As they do.  And the husband groaned and rolled over because a morning person he is not.

Rather than try to keep them quiet (unsuccessfully), I figured I’d give Andy a few extra minutes of shut eye and walk the grounds.

In our jammies.

It wasn’t even 7:00 am, so I whispered to get flippies on, and we headed out.

No need to get dressed.  No one was going to see us anyway.  And if they did?  I care zero percent.

With a shirtless Porkchop.

Because look at that tum tum.

HE WORKS OUT.

I popped into a little coffee shop and got the mama a cup a joe, and hot chocolates for the bigs.

This girl felt so special and grown up with her very own cup.  I need to remember that.

I love her simplicity.

Jill and O got the same cups, but with water instead.

This girl’s walking is awesome, but I wasn’t sure hot chocolate was the best option quite yet.

No matter.  She just loved the cup.

I was astonished at this scene.

Not just because Jill is walking alongside her siblings (although always that)…but our family is changing.

For years we’ve always had a baby in tow.  And while we still have to carry diapers and wipes, they are growing up.

Meltdowns don’t really happen much (even for Owen), and everyone can just kind of HANG OUT TOGETHER.

After almost a decade of nursing and Mobys and working around naps and shushing wee ones, this is a very strange feeling.

I like it.  But it feels weird.  By now I should be pregnant or have another squishy one strapped to me.  I’m not sure how I feel about the fact that I’m not and don’t.

We explored the lobbys in the different towers of the hotel (there are three), and found delightful little discoveries.

Like the scale replica of Big Thunder Mountain.

And we watched lifeguard training at the pool and pined for the cool monorail slides in the crisp cool air that only mornings can bring.

And finally we found this giant air vent that shot powerful gusts of wind.  This was basically the best thing ever.

45 minutes after heading out, we headed back.  Daddy was still sleeping, but not for long.

He got extra sleep and I got special time with my growing up crew.

Mornings are my favorite.

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

so fun!! IWhat a great idea you had! I love Disneyland!!!

Wanna know what’s stranger?? Being some place and one of your kids is old enough to go to a store by themselves while your 15 year old daughter and you are in Victoria Secret so she can try on bras!!!!

It is strange to not have a baby and bittersweet when they become more independant but with those changes come new fun times that you can experience with your kids!!

I think you are a great mom!!!

I didn’t get a chance to say something yesterday but – your blog is my favorite blog! I think it’s perfect. You do teach life lessons in a non-teachy way. And you inspire me to be a better momma. And you are a great example of having joy even through the tough times. And you are an example of one who truly believes that God IS good ALWAYS! I love your blog and I might cry if you stop blogging or if you change it!

I need to get down to Disneyland again, someday … I think Miss A would like it. I have it in my head to stay at the Disneyland Hotel. I’d best save my pennies. Looks like a beautiful morning!
    Cheers,
