InstaFriday

Happy Halloweeeeeeeen friends!

Today’s a busy day, not really so much because of the trick or treating festivities, but in just a few hours two sweet friends are coming over to help me SHIP #TEAMJILLY SHIRTS!!!!

Pray that PayPal isn’t janky today.  No.  Seriously.  All success hangs on PayPal not being persnickety.

In the meantime, InstaFriday: where we tell the stories behind the filtered photos.

(I’m jeannettg if you want to follow)

His cheeser face.

He normally doesn’t have an underbite, but he does this when we tell him to say cheese.

Also, I love him.

I’m sorta ambivalent about it.

I’m just anticipating a busy winter.

No bueno.

And while I made this wreath several years ago, I extra love it against the newly painted door.

It’s almost as if she made this print specifically for our family.

(She didn’t.  Because she knows us not.)

But it now hangs in the living room.  Front and center.

Because CAKE.

I found Lu some cute flats on clearance.

And a couple of people thought it was me.

The way you can tell it’s not is because my thighs touch.  A lot.

There was this one four minute moment this week when everyone was freshly showered and quietly looking at books while the dishwasher whirred gently in the background.

I felt it was important to capture the four minute moment.

BECAUSE THIS LEVEL OF QUIET CONTEMPLATION IS LIKE THE LOCH NESS MONSTER.  Never seen, but believed possible.

Look at how sweet they look.

Those four minutes were lovely.

We had a crazy night last Friday.

This one had gone to bed at 7.  When Andy went to put Lu to bed at 8, he called for me.

He has a way of saying my name when something is wrong.  I knew immediately something was up and sprinted to the room expecting to find her seizing…and terrified at how long she had been before we found her.

Not seizing, but instead sleeping in a pool of her own blood.

Y’all it was like a scene from CSI.  Blood all over her pillow, sheets, blanket and all over her face.  She had never cried.  We had been in the living room the entire time.  Neither of us had heard a peep.

We aren’t 100% sure what happened, but the best we can guess is that she hit her face on the metal ladder rung of the bunk bed…and went back to sleep unaware of her injuries.

It was DEEP.  So we called a sitter to come over while we both took her to the ER.  Normally this would only require one parent, but we were extremely concerned that the trauma and pain of getting stitches would trigger a seizure, and it would be a long, long, long night.

We drove separate cars and I considered packing an overnight.

Because this is our life with epilepsy.  Any of our other kids and it would have simply been an annoying, deductible burning emergency room visit.  One of us would have gone.  The other would have flipped on the porch light and crawled into bed.

With this one, it is a desperate pleading with the Heavens, a sinking gut, and hands trembling as you buckle your seat belt.

But it didn’t, and it wasn’t.  We were in and out of the emergency room within an hour.

THANK YOU JESUS FOR SUTURE GLUE.

No.  Truly.  Thank you, thank you, thank you for glue.

She didn’t make a peep.  And if anything, was just annoyed with us for waking her up.

Home.  She spent the night in our room, because we always want her extra close just in case.

Epilepsy changes so much of our life.  I hate it.

But she was none the worse for the wear.

Love that face.  At home.  And not lethargic and hooked up 100 miles away in a beeping Intensive Care Unit.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Always.

Sunday morning we skipped church because the Porkchop was siiiiiick.  (He’s fine now.)

I couldn’t find her at one point…and then this.

She had carried books from the complete other side of the house and was quietly reading.  In bed.  Alone.

THAT’S MY GIRL.

(Here you can see the ladder rungs…there is another one right under her pillow.  The black foam is new.  Andy found that in the plumbing section at the hardware store.  It’s like a mini pool noodle.  Hopefully, if she whacks her head again, she won’t split her face open.)

Summer clearance sales mean fun new toys.

A propane powered firepit/coffee table.

We love doing stuff like this on the regular.

And so, this table will be getting heavy use as the temps keep dropping.

I love that my husband shares my vision for taking the extra time to make Tuesdays special.

(If you haven’t read this post by Kristen, you should.  I love her words and it’s something we do try to be intentional about.)

We had bracelets made when we went to Disneyland last month.

I love them.

I love Jill’s.

Family Dance Party was once again in full swing.  This time to Vanilla Ice’s Ninja Rap.  (I’m kidding zero percent.)

Porkchop has an affinity for wearing his brother’s clothes.  And I’m not really sure what’s going on with the arm situation, but he refused to let us fix it.  So that was his look from 3:00 to bedtime.

Jill was in a Shaq jersey because it was Jersey Day at school….the next day.  Good thing we had more than one.

(And I have no idea where her other shoe is.)

Henry, unsure what is happening here.

And Lucy had just gotten yelled at for confusing “dancing” with “tackling your siblings to the ground”.

Real life.  Vanilla Ice and Chaos.

Alrighty!  Your turn!

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.
