InstaFriday

Hi friends!

Whoa.  It’s been a looong and crazy week.

Unfortunately, my only instas are of Jilly’s seizure episode this week.

Also, I wanted to encourage you to follow me on Insta for updates as things like this happen.  I can’t update all of my social media accounts in a crisis situation, but I do try to instagram.  It’s a quick and easy way to let family and friends know what is going on and how to pray for us in that moment.  Of course, you guys get to know the same information too, so if you don’t already, follow me over there.  (I’m jeannettg if you’d prefer to search.)

Jill’s been sick with an awful head cold/flu type of thing for about a week now.  I’ve been watching her like a hawk because illness is a trigger for her.  By Monday she was actually mostly well so I thought we were out of the woods.

Until she fell off a kitchen stool…hitting her head being another trigger…and within the hour I was calling 911.

With a depressed immune system and falling onto tile, it was as if the seizure planets aligned.

This all actually happened just a few hours after I snapped these pictures of her in a Spiderman costume.  She had since changed into Superman.

Amazing how quickly things change.

She seized for about 45 minutes and we were discharged a few hours later.  Phew.  That wasn’t too bad.

Once home, Andy put her on the couch to rest and I went into the kitchen to make us a couple of turkey sandwiches for dinner.  Before I started eating I thought I’d check on her…and found that she had vomited and was seizing again.

We called 911 a second time…just a few minutes after getting home.

Well, she seized and seized and seized.  And I was terrified.  Hours and hours went by.  Dose after dose of medication.  Phone calls to neurologists.  Orders for different meds sent to pharmacy.  They were trying everything.

And she just kept on.

Finally we were transferred to a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit an hour away.  By the time they arrived not only had she been seizing for almost five hours (not a typo), she was now running a 104 temperature.

Turns out she had aspirated some of her vomit and given herself pneumonia to boot.

I followed behind the ambulance and drove in the dark of the night, exhausted, and panicked, at 12:30 am.

I had no idea if she was still seizing or not.

Turns out she had finally FINALLY stopped shortly after getting on the road to the PICU (because of course).

Andy had hastily packed me an overnight bag and said he specifically made sure to pack me this shirt.  It was good.

(Also, I realize that’s a total boob shot.  But I tried all kinds of variations and that was the least weird.  But still totally weird.)

The next day she was miserable, lethargic, and still coming off the effects of all those drugs in her little system.  While I’ve never experienced a seizure myself, I would imagine five hours of convulsing would be tiring.

So we gave her plenty of space and tried to keep her happy.  She asked for a princess dress.

Because girlfriend has priorities.

In the meantime, we still have three other kids.

Other kids who were so brave and watched us pull away in an ambulance not once, but twice that day.

He and Lu are so little yet…so grown up too.

They were total troopers and even waved from the sidewalk.

I waved back from inside the ambulance.

I wish this wasn’t part of their reality.  But I’m thankful they aren’t scared of the swarm of uniforms and sirens.

And there’s this guy.

Drinking his daily serving of veggie juice.

Because that’s how my life goes sometimes.

Trauma and fear and begging…to…routine life.  Like babies drinking kale/carrot/apple/celery drinks.

Rollercoaster.

A freaking rollercoaster.

So, how’s your week gone?

Link up friends!

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

Something to think about. You’ve said before that Jill has fallen and then shortly after seizures began. Have the docs considered that the initial fall is due to a small seizure? Basically like earthquakes- pre shocks, the big event, and after shocks. Maybe it could give you more insight as to what is going on in that pretty little head of hers. I hope she is feeling better and I wish you all the best.
