InstaFriday

My life is so very far from perfect, but somehow, no matter how hectic or crazy or frustrating, Instagram reminds me to capture the small moments that are what really make up our life.

(You can follow me there.  I’m jeannettg.)

Some days are rough.

But a family movie night with everyone in their cozy jammies and cuddled up on the couch makes even the worst days tolerable.

Jill saw these beanies and immediately exclaimed “CAAAAKE!”

Of course we had to try one on.

But at $27.99 the cupcake beanie didn’t come home with us.  Boo.

photo 3 (9)

You know what did come home with us?

Another pair of shoes for Henry.

Another.

Because the pair that is falling apart and frayed?  Those are less than 6 months old.

I miss the days when you had to buy new shoes because they had outgrown them.  Buying a new pair in the same exact size is annoying.

photo 2 (9)

Not annoying is wearing gold moccasins and meeting a friend for coffee.

I think they might actually be house slippers, but I’m not really sure.  I just know that they are super comfy and cute and I should go buy a few extra pairs.  For $10 at Payless,  it’s a no-brainer.

When I saw this gold glitter bow in the dollar spot at Target, I was pretty sure they had designed it specifically for Jill.

Just no one called me to let me know.

When I put it in her hair…yep.  Totally made for her.  No doubt.

Because nothing epitomizes MLK Jr.’s “I Had a Dream” quite like a skate competition, Henry competed on Monday.

I love that he put my Sevenly stickers on his board.

I do not love the weird red skull.  It was in his prize bag from the last competition, and he had put it on his board before I even realized it.

Gross.  But kinda like a tattoo.  Once it’s on, there’s not much you can do about it.

photo 1 (9)

He won first place in his division (7 &  under)!

Which is good because his prize was a new deck.

Which is good because the deck we bought him for his birthday 7 months ago is cracking along the tail and needs replaced already.

In related news, I pre-checked his prize bag.  No skull stickers.  We’re good.

We were given this giant stack of Read Aloud books with the tapes, only to realize we don’t have a tape player (except in Andy’s car…which is less than helpful since he goes to work all day).

I thought a tape player would be a dime a dozen at the thrift store.

THREE thrift stores later, ZERO tape players.  Zero.

Craigslist?  Zero.

I found thisone on Amazon, but I then realized we actually don’t even have a CD player in the house.  We have like 5 iHome type of things…computers and laptops…2 iPads…but no stand alone CD players.  So I might get something more like this.

My point: if you have a tape player, DO NOT THROW IT OUT.  You have no idea when you might need one, and I can assure you, they aren’t as easy to find as you might think.

Technology is annoying.

I swear, I must kiss this little face at least 856 times a day.

I just can’t help myself.

You’d think he would hate it, but he leans right in.

Because he likes his mama.

And that makes me happy.

Link up your Instagram account below (for example, mine is http://instagram.com/jeannettg). I’m not talking about linking up a blog post, but your actual Instagram account. (although you can totally link up your InstaFriday post too if you did one.)
If you link up, follow at least 3 other people who linked up. (I will too!)
The idea? You get to follow cool people from this community (my favorite) AND you get a few new followers yourself!
Whatcha think? Let’s try it?!
Yay!
***NOTE***: for some silly reason, you can’t select a photo using this method of linking directly to an instagram account. If you see something about a 500 error, it doesn’t mean it won’t work, it just means that it can’t find a picture to link to. If you have a photo you want to use for the thumbnail, click the “Upload from computer” or “Direct Image URL”. Otherwise, you’ll just have the blue frog thing as your image. Which isn’t nearly as fun as seeing your smiling face.

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

CUPCAKE!!!! If you lived in MN or anywhere with a real winter I would figure out way to make this happen, but you “brats” (with love) were on a trampoline with water last week, so I’m going to ahead and say you should eat cupcakes, not wear them.

It might be less expensive to find one of those services that will convert the cassette tapes to another format. They primarily advertise for converting your old 3mm home videos to DVD or mpeg file, but they often do these audio files as well. In case you haven’t already splurged on a cassette player….

My boom box is sitting in my room getting dusty. If it works and has both CD and cassette, do you want it? we’ll be in SLO in two weeks. We’re actually in Santa Barbara on Tuesday and could sneak up to Santa Maria. If you get this, message me in Facebook. I may do that, too, anyway.

I have the opposite problem. I have older family that thinks their 8 track and cassettes + players are worth their weight in gold and refuse to believe otherwise. Like we are trying to rip them off and really are going sneak behind their back and sell them, instead of throwing them away. *eyeroll* (it is highly doubtful any of it still works, since it has not been used for 20+ years)
