InstaFriday

Every week we share the stories behind the filtered pictures.

Simple, sweet, everyday moments that make up our lives.

Join us?

(I’m jeannettg on instagram if you want to follow there too!)

Oh, and pay attention to the linky party rules at the end.  I’m changing it up a bit this week, so let’s try something a little different?

Sisters.

Forever.

Tennis balls stuck amid the crystals in my Pottery Barn chandelier?

THIS IS WHY WE CAN’T HAVE NICE THINGS.

We were really good about juicing for a few months last year.

And then Andy’s travel schedule got crazy, and then the holidays, and then lazy.

So we’re picking it up again.  Everyone gets a juice.  Even the Porkchop.

The only kid I can’t get to drink it?  Jill.  Because it’s not cake.

I feel like I need this shirt in my life.

Except I’d be straight up lying half the time.

I was downstairs cleaning up.  The Bigs were downstairs doing some kind of art project.

When I suddenly realized that the littlest of the bunch were not only nowhere to be found, but also AWFULLY quiet.

Somehow my 18 month old toddler, and my four year old with CP, managed to get themselves up on the swiveling desk chair.  From there, it appears there was some hoisting from bigger sisters to get the shortest and squattiest of legs up and onto the actual desk.

They both JUMPED when I turned the corner.

Don’t even try to tell me they didn’t know.  THEY KNEW.

Every year, from October to February, the Monarchs make a stop nearby on their way south (Mexico?).

We go every year, and every year I’m always amazed.

Plus, it was nice to get out.  I think we’ve been cooped up too many days.

We kept along the path through the Eucalyptus trees dripping with butterflies (you can see them in the background of this picture), and along to a secluded stretch of beach.

If you know me at all, you know I have a lurid aversion to sand.

But, the kids love it.  And we do live in California.  So, you know, sometimes I just gotta.

I’m glad we did though.  It was so nice to watch the kids climb along those branches and dig their toes in the impossibly powdery sand.

The Bigs jumped off of sand dunes with a little brother trying to keep up, while Jill found a plastic spoon and promptly used it as a shovel.

I marveled at the beauty just 20 minutes from our front door.  And I kept thinking “I can’t believe I live here.”

And then I thought: “My kids are barefoot, wearing lightweight jackets and my boys are in shorts…and there’s a polar vortex or something I CANNOT EVEN UNDERSTAND going on in the rest of the country.  I’m basically glad I don’t live by Jenny and Emily.”

Unfortunately we didn’t last too terribly long because it started to get windy and the soft sand was getting in the kids’ eyes.  I’m seriously considering going back and having the kids wear their swim goggles.  It’s not like there’s anyone to see the ridiculousness, right?

OKAY, NOW…I HAVE AN IDEA.  So don’t click away just yet!

Feel free to link up your InstaFriday post if you’ve written one, but let’s try this:

Link up your Instagram account below (for example, mine is http://instagram.com/jeannettg).  I’m not talking about linking up a blog post, but your actual Instagram account.

If you link up, follow at least 3 other people who linked up.

The idea?  You get to follow cool people from this community (my favorite) AND you get a few new followers yourself!

Whatcha think?  Let’s try it?!

Yay!

***NOTE***: for some silly reason, you can’t select a photo using this method of linking directly to an instagram account. So you can either upload a picture from your computer or if you see something about a 500 error, it doesn’t mean it won’t work, it just means that it can’t find a picture to link to. If you have a photo you want to use for the thumbnail, click the “Upload from computer” or “Direct Image URL”. Otherwise, you’ll just have the blue frog thing as your image. Which isn’t nearly as fun as seeing your smiling face.

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

The kids on the desk! SO funny. Such sneaky little ones. It’s always so hard not to laugh when you find your kids in situations like that. Oh that polar vortex… it was intense. We were cooped up in the house for a few days, but it’s all over now. Hope you guys have a great weekend.

We wear goggles to the beach on windy days – after a few stares, the other moms realize the genius in my plan and join in on the fun.

Also, bring a container of baby powder with you to the beach and a few hand towels. I don’t know how it works but coating legs and feet with baby powder will wipe off the sand instantly.

This is a fun change-up Jeannett. Will you do it every week? // The tennis ball in the chandelier made me laugh. My son throws balls up in the air all the time. It drives me crazy. // I’m not gonna lie. Those pictures of the butterfly grove made me jealous. First. because monarch butterflies! I wonder if Bon Qui Qui Jr. made it there? Second, because Polar Vortex. Lucky you. // On a related note, any job openings out there for a ministry guy / coach? // Have a good week! xo
