Two days a week, it’s just me, Lu and O-Bo.

Her special Lucy Day treat is to be able to bring her stroller, doll, and even her purse with us when we go places.

She feels so grown up and regularly shushes her crying charges and whispers things like “It’s okay sweetheart.  Mommy’s here.”

It’s bulky and slows us down to let her bring her own “family” shopping, but it’s priceless too.

She’s such a little mama.  It slays me.

Green marker.

Not washable.

In an EMPTY Lego bin.

While grinning.

He slays me too.  Different.

I helped coordinate a blessing bag stuffing activity at Henry’s school.

I was oddly worried that parents wouldn’t bring in donations, or that someone would complain that it was called a “blessing” bag.  Or I don’t know.  I’ve never volunteered to do any kind of school gig before.  I didn’t know what to expect.  Plus, I don’t know the parents.  Because I’m not that mom.

And I stressed HARD over the wording of the little note I sent with the bags so parents knew what to do with them.  I wanted to write something that had weight and meaning, but I also terrified of offending someone somehow (it’s not a private/Christian school).

Blogging’s way easier.  Y’all who volunteer at school on the regular: KUDOS.

But the activity went really smoothly, we had plenty of supplies for the bags, and the teachers had the kids write notes to include in the bags and read this book ahead of time.  I love that they were game for doing this with me.

Also, I want to marry this note.

“Mom!  There’s this really cool thing I’m going to ask Santa for!!!  It’s called a Rubik’s Cube…have you heard of it?”

“Yes, dear.  Those have been around since I was a kid.”

“They WERE?!  Did you have one?  Did you ever finish it?”

“Yes they were.  Yes I did.  No I did not.  You know I hate games.”

Also, in case you weren’t feeling old enough this morning…please note the top right hand corner:

30 years of fun! 1980-2010

Kill me.

YOU GUYS.

I found Bieber wrapping paper.  At The Dollar Tree.  For one dollar.  IN TWO COLORWAYS.

Obviously I had to have it.

What else was I supposed to wrap all of Andy’s gifts in???

IMG_6752

Look at that face.

It’s like he’s an angel.

(Quick side note: When I posted these on Instagram, people thought I was being the “cool mom”.  My kids have NO CLUE who this kid is.  None.  I wrapped adult gifts in this.  Wait.  No.  I wrapped gifts intended for adults in this paper.  Wait.  Hold on.  I wrapped perfectly G Rated items that were being gifted to adults in this paper.  Yes.  That.  Because BIEBER!!!!!!)

Confession: I throw dust jackets away.

Always.  Any book genre.  They get tossed.

And I always, always, always feel super guilty about it.  Like I’m committing some kind of book lover crime.

And yet, I’ve never regretted it.  Even on my cookbooks.

But I still feel oddly bad when I do it.

Why do they even make these things anyway????

My friend Ashley started an etsy shop recently.

I was so surprised to see happy mail this week from her.

It is so perfect.

Love. IMG_6764

Remember how I gave away a $100 Toys R Us gift card for Toys for Tots shopping?

Well, Angie took her four littles shopping and shared some photos with me.

Look at those faces!  So exciting!

Also, I’m 100% sure I’ve discovered my new favorite giveaway ever.

The best.

In what can only be described as cosmic irony, the Queen of Hating All Things Board Games and Puzzles (me), gave birth to a daughter who loves puzzles for dayyyyyssssss (Lucy).

It’s kinda hard to tell in this picture, but those pieces are TINY.  And girlfriend LOVES it.  So often I’ll realize she’s really quiet, and I’ll find her happily sitting at a desk putting together one of the 20+ puzzles we’ve somehow accumulated.  And I mean, she’s FOUR.  I tried helping her last night and before I had found even one lousy piece to connect, she had assembled half a row.  (And it was only the second time she has done this one.)

On the one hand, I love that she’s found a (quiet) thing she loves.  On the other hand my brain cannot comprehend.  At all.  Ever.  I would rather clean my shower than do a puzzle.  And I HATE cleaning my shower.  Kids are weird.

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

gotta ask. did you see the young lady who had a procedure for controlling her episodes ? I immediately thought of your family. I know this is a bane of all who have challenges but this looked so promising and the young lady was so pleased.
