InstaFriday

It appears I did very little instagramming this week.

We’ve had one of those boringbusy weeks.  And then an impromptu trip out of town for 36 hours to go visit my grandma in the hospital.  (She’s home now.)

But boringbusy mostly. IMG_6711

And by boringbusy, I mean that you can still be in your pjs when Daddy catches you with mom’s mascara (again).

And when he says “OBooooo…go give that to Mommy.”

And instead, you try to HIDE IT BEHIND YOUR BACK (what the what?!), but you’re just a dumb baby because hello, you left evidence of your naughty.  We caught you red handed, er, black backed.

And THEN you lay on the floor in this theatrical show of defeat when we take it away.

You realize we are laughing AT you and not with you, right?

We win.

(For now anyway.)

(Oh wait, now there’s mascara smudges on my carpet.)

(It’s a draw.)

Okay, you guys are one million bajillion times smarter than I am.

I’ve always had these snowflake stocking holders that I mostly hated.

1) because they are snowflakes.  And it doesn’t snow where we live.  Ever.  So it seemed stupid to have snowflakes on my mantel.  It just bothers me.  Because it was seriously 82* outside last week.  I realize that shouldn’t matter one iota, but I’m weird.  We’ve established this long ago.

2) I’ve always wanted one of those stocking holder sets from Pottery Barn that spell something out, but they are expensive.  And I already had the dumb snowflake ones so it was a hard purchase to justify.

3) Lastly, I couldn’t think of anything that had 6 letters.

Obviously I’m not very smart because I asked you guys on Facebook and literally within 2.8 minutes I had a bunch of options.  Obvious options.  You know, like G-I-B-S-O-N.  Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I am a friggin’ genius.

Anyway, I obviously went with FAMILY.  Although I waffled back and forth between that and JOYFUL.

(In case you are wondering, those are simple wooden letters from Michael’s ($1.19 each!) that I glittered and then hot glued right onto the holder base.  I’m certain the letters will pop right off the metal when we pack these up, but they can be re-glued in just a few minutes every year.  Because hot glue is awesomely easy like that.)

(Also, that’s my scented wall plug in doohicky.  Because Porkchop.  Also, my sunflowers are dead.  I should probably pull those down.  But I probably won’t.  Because the Porkchop probably has my mascara again.  And it would be best to save my energy for that.)

He literally threw it up into the air and waved it all around like he just didn’t care and yelled YAAAAYYYYY!!!!!

Coffee as aromatic confetti.

It’s kinda brilliant.  Except it’s totally not.

ESPECIALLY since I had just swept.  As in, 12 seconds earlier.

I want to kill him.  And then squish him to a million pieces and kiss those fat cheeks 8 million times.  Because gracious he slays me.

One of my more brilliant ideas (which apparently lots of you do too, so it’s obviously not that brilliant): we pack up Christmas books with the decorations.  Every year, it’s like getting a new stack of books to read and let’s face it, I’m not stuck reading about Whoville in the middle of August.

Okay your turn!

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

Hiding the christmas books is brilliant! Also, if the letters fall off that easily you can let the kids pick different words each year!

I love Naughty Porkchop. So much. It’s kind of ridiculous. But his naughtiness and how real you are about it reminds me that the things my naughty girls do are totally normal – and that it’s okay to laugh about them. You know, after you’re finished being so angry that you could spit…

I pack up our Christmas books every year too. It’s fun to pull them out with the rest of the Christmas decorations and have “new” books to read at bedtime.

Have a fantastic weekend, my dear!
