InstaFriday

The camera on my phone often captures my favorite pictures.  Not because they are perfectly composed, with all the right lighting, and filled with lovely bokeh…but simply because they capture who we really (mostly) are as a family.

Silly.  LOUD.  Love.

That’s us.

Crying too.  Oh, and timeouts.  And tantrums.

But love.  Lots and lots of love.

(I’m jeannettg on insta if you want to follow!)

Warming up for his second skate competition.

I am forever in awe of how he would not in one million years join a choir or take a part in a play.  Because “Mom, I don’t want to stand up there with everyone watching me!!!  That’s awful!”

Yet, hand the kid a board, and he doesn’t bat an eye at being given full reign of the park for one minute…with everyone watching…and some people even JUDGING him….totally different.

First place in his age division.

BOOM.

Even more shocking is realizing how far he’s come from his very first lesson…just nine months ago.  (No, really.  Revisit that post. Just look at the pictures.  The difference in his demeanor is astounding.)

I don’t have any expectations of him doing this for anything more than fun.  But man, I’m proud of this kid.  He’s found something he loves.  It gives him confidence.  It gives him his own “thing”.  Makes a mama heart swell.

Another favorite?

Saturday mornings.

We NEVER let the dogs up on the bed, but we called them up this week.

The kids thought this was the best thing in the ever known Universe.

And to be honest, so did I.

Giggles heard round the world.

I took away that bag of chips.

And put it up on the table.

And then Owen was really quiet.

BECAUSE HE CLIMBED UP ON THE BENCH TO GET THEM.

Because of course he did.

But that face!

How am I supposed to get anything done in life when those big giant eyeballs look at me like that?!

Part of Henry’s first place winnings was a new deck (that’s the wood part of the skateboard), so we pulled the wheels off an old board and hung it on the wall.

The $6 yard sale board that started it all.

We’re working on spelling and remembering to capitalize proper nouns.

“Wait.  Mom…I need to draw something.  It’s Mr. Bob!”

“Okay.  Yay?”

“It’s that guy with the really cool ramp in his backyard!”

But of course it is.

Thank you Instagram.

A friend posted a pic of free pancakes for kids on Halloween at IHOP.

You better believe I yelled “KIDS!  Quick!  Find your shoes!  FREE PANCAKES!!!!!”

(I wanted to beat any potential lunch rush.)

Mom remembered to bring her nice camera on Halloween.

Mom remembered to bring a media card with plenty of space on it.

Mom did not remember to check the battery.

Thank you sweet baby Jesus for iPhones.

Also, this was the first year I didn’t make/piece together costumes.  Part of me is bummed I didn’t do something more creative and outside the box.  Part of me is glad I just had to open plastic bags.

The kids were great.

It was HOT.

Owen pulled a little rolling backpack all evening.

Jill walked almost the entire time.

Henry and Lucy used good manners.

BOOM.

My job here is done.

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.
