InstaFriday

Whew!  What a week!

You know, social media gets a bad name sometimes.  That it paints a perfect picture when the reality is anything but.  And I get that.  Truly.  But you know what else it does?  It takes the crazy, frustrating, loud, chaotic, patience losing, crying days and finds the beauty hidden and forgotten in the melee.

InstaFriday always makes my heart swoon.

Not because my week was perfect.

But because my week was beautiful.

Every time.

Join us!  And follow along!  I’m jeannettg.

Seriously.  I just laugh at this kid.  All day.

He’s like a real life Dennis the Menace.

Get’s into EVERYTHING.  Is nooooooon-stop.  More so than any of my other kids ever were.

And that’s saying a lot.  A LOT.

But he’s cute.  And I’m pretty sure he knows it.

The teeth.  It’s too much.

Our CSA boxes continue to surprise.

Last week, we had PURPLE carrots…that were still bright orange in the center.  I was totally expecting them to be purple all the way through.

And beets (I think those are beets?) that are orange and yellow!  Fun!

The boys at the skate park figured out I was a blogger.

Which is so mortifying.  I kinda want to die  and delete the whole thing when people in real life find out.  I can’t explain this phenomenon.  But it’s weird.

We each took a similar insta of Owen and had a friendly wager to see who got the most likes on it.

They were totally winning with 65 likes and I had a measly 38.  So what’s a girl to do?

CHEAT.

And y’all are so supportive of my cheating ways it is FANTASTIC.

I asked my Facebook page to specifically go like this insta…350 likes later, I’d say I “won”!  Boom.  Make fun of the blogger now, boys.

Lucy…that girl.

Managed to get stung by a bee on her bottom lip.

All three bigs were splashing and jumping and dunking in the kiddie pool.

Apparently Lu decided to dunk her head underwater right where a bee was taking a leisurely swim.

I swear…my kids…they get hurt in the weirdest ways.  I’m just glad she wasn’t allergic.  I was in no mood for a 911 call this week.

Andy has been trying with all his might to get me to use Google Calendar.

So we can share our schedules and all that efficient jazz.

But I just can’t.  I can’t.

I know that sounds weird for someone who blogs, instagrams, facebooks, twitters, and goes to social media conferences.  I even have a Kindle.  But I cannot for the life of me keep a digital calendar.  Impossible.

I need to write and squiggle and circle and star and doodle.

And it has to be pretty.  I squealed when my Much Ado About You planner came.  Squealed.

All is right in the calendar world again. IMG_5119

She’s gonna be four next week.

I know, right?!

And just because she can’t walk or talk doesn’t mean she doesn’t want to wear pretty princess shoes like her sister.

But princess shoes are impossible to keep on when you crawl.

Nothing a hole punch, some elastic, and hot glue can’t fix.

Hot glue fixes everything.  It’s like the duct tape of the woman world.

I found that my diamond was MIA this week.

And of course it was on the day that I had been to Costco, swim class, the post office, the skate park, school…it could be in any one of 7 million places.

I always thought I’d be really upset if I lost it.

Turns out, I’m not.  I mean, I’m bummed.  But meh.

I’ll wear the band and maybe we can talk upgrade for our 15th anniversary.  But even that…I don’t know.  I’d rather have a lot of other things first, you know?

IMG_5097

Swim classes continue.

This girl and her weird lizard eye goggles crack me up.

She LIVES for swim class.

I live for seeing her in gingham ruffles.

We had a super laid back Fourth of July this year.

We didn’t even go to our church picnic that we’ve gone to every year since even before we had kids.

But we did invite some friends over for dessert and fireworks.

The kids helped decorate store bought ice cream sandwiches while I made this.

Owen…he specializes in Mess Making.  It’s his passion.

IMG_5153

She was READY.

Loved every minute of it.

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

I completely agree that looking back through the pictures of the week makes the crazy moments seem not so bad!! I might start a post off frustrated or moody and then, by the time I’ve picked the pictures and told the stories, I’m in a much different, more thankful place :) It’s the best! ~ Those lizard goggles are pretty awesome and your dessert looks amazing!! :) Have wonderful weekend!!

I agree about the digital calendar! I Facebook, Insta, etc. but there is just something about a paper calendar that feels… Right. :)

I’ve been keeping a planner since high school, so I completely know what you mean about writing it all down. How is it that through her tragedy with a bee sting, she looks amazing? Rocking an Angelina Jolie lip- thing. Glad shes better!

    And, cheers to paper planners!

I love her little princess shoes. So fun that you did that. You rock. Even without your rock, you rock. Bummer you lost that. But, yeah, I get it. There are more important things. Still. I also get the not doing the google calendar thing. Except I’m also not good with a paper planner thing. Unless it’s post-its. Because that’s how I remember anything. Post its every where. Oh well. Have a great week! xo, ab

I’m exactly the same about blogging! My husband’s coworker stumbled upon mine the other day and I was all, “Oh great, now I have to delete everything.” Such a weird thing, but I think it’s because I like sharing with people OUTSIDE of our (sometimes too) tiny overseas military base. And I totally agree about paper calendars v. google calendars–I cannot remember a single thing I put on a digital calendar!

I look forward to Fridays for the same reason.. while our weeks might not always be so pleasant, the pictures we have capture the good! Thanks for always hosting. Love the princess shoes, and LOVE the gingham ruffles. Way too cute. Also, I thought of you tonight while out at dinner, when I looked down to see that one of the tops of a prong on my wedding ring was GONE. Luckily my diamond was still in there and isn’t even loose, but I’ll be running to the jeweler right away.

I’m so sad you lost your diamond. :( But you have such a great attitude about it. Things aren’t important, it’s the memories behind them which are what’s important. xo
