Seriously, these are the most disgusting little treats.

Disgusting looking.

But oh so delicious going down my gullet.

Although I kinda have to eat them with my eyes averted or I’ll gag at the thought of eating egg yolk like that.

And yet, a favorite.  So weird.

She was even doing the whole breathing thing.  Girlfriend can’t talk but she can do a mean Darth Vadar impression.

And that watch?  She wore it for about 72 hours.  Straight.  Even to sleep.

When Andy got home, he said “I’m firing you from your picture taking skills…you didn’t even straighten the mask so you could see her eyes!”

Um, HELLO THAT’S THE WHOLE POINT!

Duh.  Let the master work.

So, Mr. Dan opened his fat trap and told Henry there was a skate competition in a couple of weeks.

And now, of course, of COURSE, Henry wants to compete.  It’s pretty much all he can talk about.  All. the. time.

So, we’re spending some time at the park working on his routine.

Oh yes, a ROUTINE.  I legit sketched it out on a piece of paper (at his insistence) and he’s working on it.

You should see how ridiculous I look: the SAHM with a baby in a pack, giving her five year old tips and advice on something she can’t even so much as STAND ON.

TLC needs to start a new series: Skate Moms.

Thanks a lot Mr. Dan.

(I’m being snarky and sarcastic.  I’m not really mad.  Although I’m SUPER out of my element.)

Speaking of being out of elements, Henry gets really overwhelmed at the thought of being given a blank sheet of paper and being asked to draw on it.

I am loving his Ed Emberley book.  Step by step instruction.  He makes two little circles.  A line.  A dot…and voila!  It’s a train!  He gets so excited to see it come together.

A few people asked what book he was drawing from…Here ya go.

(I think I’ve insta’d it before?)

And lastly, The Porkchop.  He slays me.

A little story about this picture:  the other kids stayed home with cousins while I ran to the dollar store for Easter basket stuffs.  I managed to miss the turn and made about 76 U-turns and it took me 3 times longer to get there than it needed to.  I didn’t so much mind because I was bouncing along in my seat to some Mumford on full blast.  I got a great parking spot, right at the door (it’s in a strip mall), got out, got inside, and…THE BABY!

I opened up the door to find him grinnin’ at me like a fool.

I kinda giggled…but my stomach lurched forward in panic.  The reality is that he was in ZERO danger.  ZERO.  It was a cool breezy day and I’m not kidding you when I say he was “left” in the car for no more than 10 seconds.  It would have taken me longer to tie my shoes.  BUT…I saw how EASY it would be.  A change in routine.  An out of the ordinary errand (I haven’t been to the dollar store in over a year).  A few wrong turns.  Distracted by happy folk rock.  No other kids…SO EASY.

It reminded me of this story that still haunts me years later.  A loving, responsible, educated mom.  A mom just like any of us.  Not the addicted, strung out mom we want to believe is “the type” to forget her baby in the car.  I hate to leave InstaFriday on such a somber note…but it’s almost summer.  It happens too often.  Henry’s daycare provider told me that if you hadn’t called to tell her the child would be absent, she would call you to make sure.  Her reason: she was terrified that this might happen to one of her charges.  I love that she had thought of that.

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

I love Cadbury Eggs! Just the original, not any of the other varieties. I was so sad I couldn’t find the 4 packs of them at my Target; they only had the caramel and chocolate which are just not worth it. I don’t like buying the singles because I’m crazy and worry about the foil not protecting the chocolate from germs and dirt as they sit in the bin all together :)
I am always paranoid about forgetting a kid in the car, too, especially with our summers being so hot. I always try to load my purse in the back when I put the kids in so that I have to open the back door to get it.

That kid and those smiles….good thing I’m pregnant or he’d give me some serious baby fever!

I remember when Adam was just a couple of months old and I watched that story on Oprah and just held him and cried the entire time. I could totally see how easy that would be to do. I read somewhere that you should put your purse or your cell phone on the seat next to the kid, so you will always have to turn around or get into the backseat before you leave the car – just in case. I did that when mine was a wee babe, and it saved me a few times!
What a tragic story – but thanks for the reminder…..it’s been 5 years since I had a baby I feel like I’m going to have to relearn everything!

I’m posting late this week. Better late than never, eh? That story you linked to was so sad. It’s always good, I think, to realize that we are capable of doing things that we would never want to do. Have a good Easter! xo, ab

That story haunts me too!!!! omg I can just imagine the feeling in the pit of your stomach as you realized he was still in the car. When p was a tiny little baby (maybe 6 months?) I went to pump gas and left the car on, but obv not running. I checked that the a/c was still going before I got out and the baby was sound asleep so I went on my merry pumping way. it was no longer than 1-2 minutes but when I opened the car door the heat from inside hit me like a wall and the same story ran through my mind and a cold sweat broke out on my forehead. The a/c apparently isn’t a/c when the car isn’t running and when I checked it was still left over cold air. omg the panic. she was, obviously, completely fine but now I don’t even risk that…. ugh.
