InstaFriday

InstaFriday.

Where, as Anne puts it: we tell the stories behind the pictures.

(I’m jeannettg on Instagram if you want to follow)

I’m still working my way through Tsh’s ebook One Bite at a Time and chronicling my journey over at Simple Mom.

Once a month, I share a task and what I thought about it.  As I’m sure you’ll be shocked, sometimes I even cheat on the tasks.

This month it was all about annual goals.  You can read my post here and if you want to play along the ebook is only $4 if you use the code HAPPYNEWYEAR for $1 off.

Lucy insisted on coming along to Target with me.

She also reeeeeallllly wanted this furry beanie hat thing.  This was the face she gave me when I told her no.

It’s from that Neiman Marcus collection…so even at 70% off, it’s still like $12.  If it goes down to 90% off, I’ll totally get her one.  Heck, I’ll get one for all three kids.  We’ll do re-enactments of New Moon.  I have plenty of Martha Stewart glitter for me and Andy.

Quality family time.  Don’t say we don’t have it.

IMG_3116

We have discovered our tongue.

And you know what’s kinda funny?  His eyes always photograph so dark…I still can’t figure out what color they’re going to be, but it’s looking like a neck and neck race between green or a really pale amber color.

Yet, from pictures, they look like big ol’ olives.

Also, baby toes.  The end.

IMG_3111

Oh my.  She is a GIRL.

She brushes her hair.  She like sparkles.  She told me the other day that I wasn’t so pretty because my nails weren’t painted.

It begins.  We need to sit down and have one of those “you don’t need all that stuff to be beautiful…”  At three.

Girls are stressful.

IMG_3124

Oh what up?

Little porkchop came with mama to the grocery store solo.  I forgot the cart cover.

And of course he licked the cart.  Obvs.

Meh.  Fourth kid.

Also, baby toes.  Again.  The best.

IMG_3137

Henry has never been a fan of art/drawing/coloring.  But the last month or so, I’ve noticed he’s been wanting to draw but he can’t seem to figure out what to draw.  “Mommy, what should I draw?”  “Whatever you want.”  “No, tell me.  I don’t know.”  “Okay…a snake.”  “What color snake?”  “Whatever color you want.”  “No, tell me.  I don’t know.”  “Fine.  Blue.”  “Should it have stripes or dots…”

And on.  And on.  And on.

I think he struggles with the confidence to see that he can make some squiggles on a page and it turns out looking like something.

For Christmas, I got him this Ed Emberley book.  Step by step, ultra detailed.  And hello: thumbprints.

He’s been drawing every day.  One point for Mom.  Boom.

IMG_3126

The kids were INSANE last week.  By Monday, everyone was going a little nuts and looking forward to getting back into some kind of routine.  I thought we’d try making some cookies to channel their energy.

Didn’t work.

They were just insane with cookie crumbs.

IMG_3145

Lisa’s charm of the month bracelet is so much fun.

I can’t wait to see it all done.

This month’s charm is the cutest elephant you ever did see.  I want to eat him up.

I love that even if you don’t have the charm bracelet, you can buy the charms separately…and this little guy is only $16.  He’d be darling on a little girl’s necklace, don’t you think?

IMG_3135

And I’ll end InstaFriday with this face.

Can I tell you a secret?

I prayed for a smiley baby this time around.

My other kids smiled…but you had to work for it.  This guy?  You just sort of look in his general direction and he grins from ear to ear.

He makes me ridiculously happy.

(I also prayed that he had no medical issues.  Mainly because Andy threatened to run away to Mexico if 3 out of 4 kids had something up with them.  So my baby prayers were like: “Hey God, I’d really like to not be a single mom, so please have this baby have no health issues and it’d be awesome if he smiled a lot too.  And world peace.  Amen.”)

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

I love following your weekly photos – and your commentary this week? Well… it makes me feel all sorts of happy. Especially your cart cover comment; because, Lord knows, I wouldn’t have dared to put Lucy in a cart without a cover or at least sanitizing the life out of it with the little wipes at the front of the store. Now with June? Meh. Could be worse. :)

Happy Friday, and have a great weekend!

Those baby pics are too cute! And we saw those hats at Target too. Love your glitter comment! And my girl is a bit older, 13, but she keeps looking at me funny and asking why I don’t wear more makeup and suggesting different ways to do my hair (usually involving a hair straightener). Yep. I totally know what you are in for! Thanks for hosting InstaFriday. I love coming here every week and reading all the stories!

ACK! O my word! Thanks for linking to me. I was so surprised. This is always my favorite post – to tell the stories behind the photos. And I’ve met some people that I’d now call friends through commenting on each others’ photos. Because we’re sharing our stories, our selves. What a great community you’ve built here. Thanks for hosting this. // Also… those toes. // And that smile! // It’s totally cool to pray for the kind of baby you think you need. My 3rd was a surprise and my 2nd was a handful. The entire pregnancy I was fearful that I wasn’t ready for another handful, so I prayed for an easy baby. Is that wrong? I don’t think so. Would I have loved her if she wasn’t easy? Of course. But she was an easy baby. Thank God. Because then we got a puppy. (Also a surprise.) // Have a great week!

Dear God, the pupils of your youngest baby! Amazing!
Hah, and I feel you with 3 year olds going all girlish one day… Happened to me and my niece, too. I still struggle with it, I am not the best mediator and its also my personal pride when I see her (now aged 5) picking her clothes, deciding what she will wear – and it always looks good! Maybe I am having a little fashion-designer ! :)

Hi, I’m Ellie and a new follower/first time link-er. I’ve followed It’s Good to Be Queen and The Pleated Poppy forever and now that I’m on Instagram I though I’d link up too. Thanks for sharing those adorable baby shots! I have three little boys and ache for another baby, but it’s not in the cards right now. Oh well! I can live vicariously, right? Have a great weekend and thanks for hosting!
