InstaFriday

Sweet, simple, everyday moments.

Being intentional in seeing the beauty amid the chaos using nothing but cell phone pics.

You don’t have to use Instagram (I’m jeannettg if you want to follow), but only cell phones, mkay?

This girl has the world’s most awesome hair.

It pains me to think of her one day stretching those curls through a hair straightener.

Because that’s what teenagers do. IMG_3035

I finally started on a rainbow quilt I’ve been wanting to make.  I have never quilted a single thing in my entire life, so basically this is going to be a disaster.

Basically.

I ironed everything…sorted it according to Roy G Biv order…and…that’s about it so far.

Great progress.  Perhaps I can have it done in time to give it to one of them as a wedding gift. IMG_3048

Some of you mentioned that you still hadn’t figured out what our project was last weekend.

It doesn’t match the Christmas wreath on the door, but that’s coming down soon anyway.

I’m really happy with it.  (Idea from this pin.)

This little one has suddenly taken to needing a midnight snack.

No bueno Mr. Man.  I like you better when you sleep solid.  And not so much when you are passed out until almost 9 in the morning with your dad.  Annoying.

My kids have this unnatural affinity for Lunchables.  And they eat outside any chance the weather permits.

I’ve seen some of my Insta friends post this idea of a muffin tin lunch and kept meaning to try it since I am rarely willing to shell out the money for the prepackaged orbs of slimy meat and hard cheese.  And don’t forget that Oreo.  That ONE oreo.  Blech.

Um, LOVE it.  Have done it twice since.  You just fill each of the little spaces up with whatever random things you can find in your kitchen.  Lunch meat, cheese, pretzels, oranges, berries, etc.  The kids eat as they please.  When they are “done” eating, I put the tray on the kitchen counter and when they inevitabley come to me begging for a snack an hour later…BOOM.  Go snack from the tin.
Bonus?  ONE dirty dish.  One.  This is life changing.

This guy sucks at napping.  My other kids went down 2-3 times a day like clockwork.  Each time for 1.5-3 hours.  It was brilliant.

Mr. Caboose doesn’t much like to nap, and when he does it’s these obnoxious 20-45 minute gigs.

I was totally the Nap Whisperer.  If they gave out letterman’s jackets for napping, I would pull it out and show people my varsity patches.  Owen laughs in my face when I try to tell him this.

IMG_3072

I don’t collect nativities.

But 75% off at Toys R Us (making it a cool $6.49)…I mean, I kinda HAD to.  Woodstock as Jesus?  Perfection.

IMG_3073

I was supposed to make guacamole on Christmas Eve to go with our carnitas (super traditional, right?).  But the avocados were still hard as rocks…I forgot all about them until the other day when Andy found a bag in the corner of the pantry.  “What’s this???”

Happy, happy surprise.

I shared this on insta because it’s such a cute magazine and it’s FREE.  I thought I was being all helpful.

Instead, it turns out I was pretty much the last person in the history of the Universe to be invited to the Lego Club Magazine party.  Everyone already had it and loved it. I knew that.

But in case you are living in a cave like I am…call and order.  It’s free.  And cute.  (Well, free until your kid needs more Legos to make whatever random alien thing they have in there.  They are a smart lot those Lego folk.  “Free” magazine.) IMG_3077

Have you heard of Sevenly?  Ohmyword.  Love, love, love, looooove them.

In a nutshell: they sell really cool t-shirts and sweatshirts.  They donate $7 from each sale to a charity.  Every week is a new charity/cause.  The other week, their donations benefited Reece’s Rainbow, so I HAD to get a shirt.  I also threw in a pack of stickers.

Awe.some.  Makes me like Sevenly even more.  I like funny people who give a crap.

You’re turn!  Grab a button, link up, and don’t forget to visit one another and leave comment love!  Isn’t that the whole point of linky parties?!  :)

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

    Three things:
I LOVE the new mat for your front door… that’s so incredibly cute!!
I want a mountain of delicious avocados to make a vat of guacamole with. Is there such a thing as too much guac? Maybe there’s an addicts group for it… I’ll look into that.
And those stickers? Ahh. Mah. Zing. So cool.

    Happy Friday!!

You’ll nail that quilt, no worries. Just remember to ‘quilt’ the whole thing, so the top doesn’t move, and causes tears. My MIL fixed a quilt my mom made back in 1985 because it was tearing, lots of patches later (and some quilting), it’s good to go on the back of the couch.

I’m LOL’ing over Owen’s midnight snack routine. Miss A did not sleep through the night until she was 18 months old. She was up. Every. Two. Hours. when she was nursing/bottle feeding, and after she turned 12 months old, she was up every 4 hours. I think it was you that talked about cry it out, etc., and we tried all of the methods under the sun. I even waltzed my exhausted behind to the garage and tossed an air mattress on the garage floor because she wouldn’t stop screaming and go to sleep. That didn’t work. Even with earplugs, it was a disaster. I hope your little guy chills out with his growth spurt and goes back to his normal routine (at least, I’m guessing it’s a growth spurt of some kind)…

I would test out that muffin pan idea if I had more than one child. She eats like a bird, unless she’s growing. Then it’s massive amounts of food, all day long. She can now open the fridge by herself and find snacks, which works out ok until the fridge door closes, usually on her finger LOL

    Cheers,
    Caryl

You know, I have been wanting to make a quilt from my girl’s baby clothes and I have no idea how to start. I don’t have the best relationship with my sewing machine, so I hesitate. But I think I might be ready to tackle that project this year too ;-) And I hear ya about the curls. I just hope as my girl’s hair gets longer they don’t pull out. Love the curls!
