Lighting and Pendants and Lamps, Oh My! {Lamps PLUS}

If you’ve been reading for a while, you know I have a thing for hardware.

I love hooks, pretty knobs, and lighting.  (In fact, I’ve had a post in my drafts about nothing but cabinet hardware for months now…)

I’ve been slowly changing out the lighting fixtures in our home, one by one over the last four years.

You know how “they” say that paint is the quickest way to update a room?

Totally true.  But the second best way?  Update the lighting.  It makes SUCH a huge difference.

(Also, if you’ve been reading a while, you might recognize some of these photos…I wanted to take new ones, but it was a yucky overcast day…and why re-invent the wheel, right?  Let’s just go with it.)

When I put together the girls’ nursery, I wanted a bold statement piece.

A $35 chandelier on Craigslist that used to be silver…a can of black spraypaint…and it’s my favorite part of the room to this day.

Although the cribs have been moved to make way for big girl beds, the chandelier stays.

And you bet your bottom that it’s coming with us if we ever move.

The glass beading is to die for.

As I was putting this post together, I realized that I apparently have a thing for chandeliers.

Which is kind of funny because I would never have said that about myself…but…as you’ll see, I have a disproportionate number of chandeliers in my house.

In fact, I even have a bitty one in my kitchen.

It’s an unexpected piece.  But it fits so perfectly with my glass cabinet knobs and lets off just the perfect amount of lighting.

See?  This photo was taken before I found that chandy.  Doesn’t it just make the sink area so much better?

I don’t know who invented can lighting, but it’s way overused.  Pretty lights are making a comeback!

Jadite colored pendants over my peninsula (which is STILL yellow, btw) make my kitchen feel 100 times cozier and more unique than the builder grade lighting that my house was built with.

I also have a chandelier in my master bedroom.

It’s really for candles, but the one time I actually lit said candles, I almost caught the ceiling on fire.

Not kidding.

So, it’s really just for decoration at this point.

Also decoration?

Those bedside lamps.

There are (can) lights above the bed that I use for reading.

The lamps aren’t even plugged in.  I’m not joking.  I just think they look cute.  I’m ridiculous.  I know.

The playroom needed fun lighting too.

A plastic globe I bought on clearance at Target for $3 makes for a perfect cover.  Andy found some pendants on clearance for a few dollars at Home Depot…threw away the glass covers, cut holes into the globe halves…and voila!  The perfect lighting for our play/school room.

And look how cute they are lit up!

Love these.

My latest lighting acquisition is…yet another chandelier.

I know!  I had no idea I liked them so much!

I adore this piece.  It’s fun and funky and kind of unusual, but soooo pretty.

I asked for it for my birthday, so multiple people chipped in for this one joint gift.

It came in the mail while I was at UCLA with Jill and Andy put it up while I was gone.

A true labor of love: each of those crystals had to be screwed on by hand.

220 crystals to be exact.

With an ultra fine screw thread.

Apparently it took him multiple hours over the course of several days to get them all on.

What can I say?  He likes me.

Color Plus lamps and coordinating shades

Lamps Plus has recently come out with a new line called Color + Plus™

Do you SEE all those fun color options?!  Rainbow happiness.  And there are different lamp shades you can choose from…plain white, chevron, striped, and this cool circle-y pattern:

Lately, I’ve had a thing for green, so I’m pretty smitten on this one.  I think it would look fun in my living room.

Or maybe the hot pink?  Or the aqua…or…or…

Do you have a thing for lighting like I do?  Do you have a favorite lighting fixture in your home?  Which color lamp would you get from the Lamps Plus line?  It’s almost impossible to choose, right?

Where did the one you got for your birthday come from? I love it!

It’s from PotteryBarn. They had a 20% off lighting sale plus I had a 15% off coupon that you could stack, so it turned out to be fairly affordable (as far as chandeliers go). But shipping was a ton. Boo.
