The Happy Day Project {Appreciate those in service}

Here for InstaFriday?  Never fear!  It is coming…I can only type so fast!

Don’t know what The Happy Day Project is?  Read all about it HERE.  And don’t feel left out!  Happy is happy in any increment!  Pick and task and join in today!

People mill about around us.

Steadily.

Every day.

They do their jobs and quietly make our lives easier and better.

Monday is Veteran’s Day.

A day to remember those who served our country so that we could have the right to vote and politic and complain about it on Facebook.

I realize that sounds silly, but you do realize that the simple (and annoying!) act of saying this or that about candidates, the President, etc…would be penalized sorely in many other countries?

So today, we want to say thank you.

To someone who served our nation.  And maybe throw in someone else too?

The local fire station?  A neighbor who is a police officer?  Your postal carrier?  (Handmade shop owners…that one’s for you.)

Include some cookies.  Or cupcakes.  Because bite sized nuggets of sugar are everyone’s love language.  Pretty sure of it.

Today, I will humble myself and send cookies to the retired Air Force neighbor.  Grrrrr.

He is rude and mean and passive aggressive.  Honestly?  I don’t really like the guy.  I wish he’d just move already. (That’s terrible right?  I have to work on that heart condition.)

BUT.  You know what?  He served my family.  And I want him to know that I know it.  And that I appreciate it.

Maybe he’ll quit being mean after I ply him with goodies?

I’ll also send some cookies with Jilly’s bus driver.  Oh Sal, how I love thee.  The sweetest, kindest little grandpa in the world.

He totally gets cookies today.

Today’s task is not only about making someone smile...but making them feel appreciated when they are often not.

Aly from Blossom & Vine made those adorable printables…you know, in case your cookies are all lopsided and lumpy, the cuteness of these tags will distract.  It’s pretty much my secret plan for my house too.  Aly’s art on the wall = no one will notice the junk on the floor.  Right?

We happen to live near and Air Force base and tend to have servicemen and women in our neighborhood…but many of you don’t.  Maybe you don’t have a neighbor that you realize served in the military?  Or maybe, you just really really really don’t have time this Friday to get this task together.

The Wounded Warrior Project provides programs and services to severely injured service members during the time between active duty and transition to civilian life.  (I totally copied that from their website).

“The greatest casualty is being forgotten.”

Yuck.  Let’s not forget okay?

Donate HERE today.  Five dollars counts.

Spread happy.  Because you have the freedom to.

(Are you taking pics and tagging them #TheHappyDayProject?  Yay!})

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

Such a great idea, we are so blessed in this country to still have the freedom to disagree with the political choices that are made and not be severly punished for it. Today will be a great day to make cards for those serving our country, thanking them for what they do!

What a great idea. I have friends and family who are active duty and a lot of friends/family who are prior service/retired. Plus my husband is an Operation Desert Viper veteran (he absolutely HATES IT when I acknowledge his service) and my BFF is a sex assault/child crimes detective. I’ve been sick but I donated 18 gourmet chocolate/caramel dipped homemade apple creations and a dozen homemade pumpkin biscotti to the hubsters to his office for a bake sale and AC is just stuck with my sorry butt on a daily basis making her mochas and giving her goodies. I need to branch out to the fire guy across the street but being ill I haven’t wanted to ‘spread the love.’

    Great ideas as usual, JG!

I am really enjoying your blog and the happiness project is especially fun. As a wife of a medically retired soldier who was injured in Iraq I would ask you to have a different point of view toward the retired airman in your neighborhood. So many of our soldiers are coming home with such heavy burdens on their hearts and souls. Veterans day is such a hard day for so many. Please know that many of our soldiers and airmen are struggling with hidden injuries, especially PTSD and TBI. Thank you again for your wonderful blog and for sharing such great ideas in the Happiness Project.
