The Happy Day Project 2012 {Day 1: Handwritten Note Day}

It’s here!  It’s here!

Ready to start spreading happy together?

I looooove today’s task.

Remember when we used to actually write letters to eachother?

Like, before e-mail, texting, Facebook and Twitter?

Sure, technology is convenient and instant, but there’s something sweet to seeing someone’s uniquely swirly writing on a piece of paper crafted just for you.

Today, let’s write someone a note.

Of thanks?  Just saying hi?  Letting them know you’ve been thinking about them?  Encouraging them?

I bet that every single one of us knows EXACTLY who should get our first handwritten note.

So do it.

Write them.  A note.

And then put it in the mail.

But wait!…if you want (and how could you not want?!) you can use these…

You just died at the rainbow happy didn’t you?

I know! I know!

Lindsay of Pen & Paint fame (you’ve seen her deliriously cute shop, right?) created a FREE PRINTABLE just for us Happy Dayers!

You can print that happy puppy out and start writing away!

(Lindsay informed me that each of the three cards will fit nicely into a business sized envelope, or you can fold them in half and tuck them into a smaller envelope.  Genius.)

If you remember, every Happy Day Project task also offers a virtual way to fulfill it.

But I thought today’s “virtual” task could be up to you (that, and I couldn’t think of anyone for all of us to write to).

How about you take the time to write a note to someone just outside of your immediate circle?

My guess is that your first handwritten note will go to a dear friend or family member…so have your second note go to someone a little further outside.  Here are some suggestions:

-Do you sponsor a child through Compassion or World Vision?  Write them!

-That friend of a friend that you met once that is going through a particularly rough patch right now?

-The sweet lady you see in church every week that just lost her husband?

My second note will go to the powers that be at UCLA Medical Center.  Everyone was beyond kind and genuinely nice.  So much so that anyone who stopped by to visit us, actually made a point to comment on how nice the staff were.

Of particular awesomeness was one of the cleaning lady/janitors…her job was to simply dump trashes and sweep up goldfish crumbs from our room…and she was JUST AWESOME.  Sweet.  Funny.  I adored her.

And being that she’s the “janitor” (ack!  I don’t know what her job is called!!!), I would imagine she doesn’t often get many kudos.  And I want her bosses to know what a gem they have in her.

I don’t know if she is Christian or not, but her work ethic and ready smile smacked so deeply of 1 Corinithians 10:31: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

She was rad.

I want her to know she is appreciated.

So, there’s Task 1 of The Happy Day Project 2012:

Write 2 notes.  Get a cute printable.  Make someone smile.

Don’t forget to snap a pic or two for our recap posts at the end of the week!

(If you want to know more about The Happy Day Project, see this post and link up if you are playing along!)

Don’t forget to share your Happy Day-ness by pinning, insta-ing, Facebooking, etc. and tagging it with #TheHappyDayProject!

Who are your notes going to today?  I’d love to know!!!

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

She’s in housekeeping. A note to her boss would be good too. say what shift and what floor you were on. I work in a hospital and the powers that be want to know about the workers who were over and above. Glad your ordeal ended.

I was wondering if for future printables could we have a 2nd page that would print on the back, to link back to the Happy Day Project? I am going to make something to print on the back of todays.

I want to thank you for hosting this feel-good project. I’ve been feeling ridiculously bogged down by work as of late and am really missing connecting to people in my life. A colorful printout and this project are just what I needed to feel connected to the world outside of work. I can’t wait to write these letters tonight!

I just love this happy project!! :) Thanks for the printables, they’re adorable!! I let my big girl decide who to give the notes to, I was not surprised at all by her choices (Daddy & Biggi a.k.a. Grandma). I am so thankful and happy that you are back home and that your family is complete again. Your post about the ordeal and seeing those other children who were so much sicker and there for so much longer just wrecked me. It’s so easy to take things for granted. The illnesses that have plagued our little house over the last few days seem like nothing in comparison. Have a blessed day!!

I was so excited to find this project via your pin on Pinterest. I completed yesterday’s task by sending 3 anonymous notes. One to an elderly lady that is a ball of fun at our church, one to a co-worker that is down on his luck, and one to a friend that is a true blessing in my life. Our mail system worked super fast and the friend has already received her anonymous card. She posted on Facebook about how the card made her feel. I’m so happy to have helped start her day off with a smile, and reading her status started my day off with a happy heart. It’s a win-win! Thank you so much for putting this together! I have been writing about it on my own blog as well.
