See how clever that post title is?

Today’s post = hodge podge.  It’s just how it goes somedays.

The Great Stomach Flu of 2012 has descended up on the Gibson House.

And it has no mercy.

It started with a puking Lucy on Thanksgiving day.  She only threw up for a day, so I thought it was a 24 hour thing…but she’s still whiny and doesn’t feel good and having to use the bathroom a lot.

Next was Jilly.  She was siiiiiiiiick.  So so so sick.  So pale and limp yesterday that we seriously debated taking her to the hospital.  Poor kid always gets it ten times worse than anyone else.  We gave her a slow release version of her rescue meds throughout the day and no seizure!!!  Yay!!!  That’s the third time we’ve been able to stave off a seizure!  Hopefully we have it mostly figured out…but it’s still weird to give your kid barbiturates “just in case”.  Hoping she’s on the mend.  Andy had a light case…and then I was down for the count all day yesterday.  I actually went to bed at 6:30 last night and woke up at 6 this morning!  Owen…well, he isn’t throwing up, but he spent every waking minute yesterday crying…if he wasn’t nursing or sleeping, he was screaming.  We’re guessing he’s feeling icky.  So far, only Henry has escaped the clutches of  the Tummy Bug.  I’m not holding my breath.

We spent Thanksgiving at family’s and purposely headed home Friday night so that we could get our tree and get started on decorating…but none of use could hardly peel ourselves up off the couch.  BUST.

Andy and I snuck out late Friday afternoon (before either of us contracted the Plague and after all the Black Friday crazies had gone back to bed) and got ALL of our kid Christmas shopping done.  Thank you Toys R Us and Target!  We do three gifts for each kid: one from mom, one from dad, and one from Santa.  Three gifts doesn’t sound like a lot, but it adds up when you have four kids!  (Actually, who am I kidding?  We’re only buying a Santa gift for Owen…and even then it’s only because the bigs will get suspicious.)  Today I’m hoping to take advantage of the Cyber Monday sales and finish up my shopping for adults.  I’d love to be done early this year.  I really want a chill Christmas where I can actually enjoy hot cocoa by a twinkling tree and watching Elf with my kids.  Today, I’m finishing up…how about you?

If you are planning on shopping today, my dear (in real life) friends are having some fab sales.  Consider crossing folks off your list and supporting some amazing ladies today?

Lisa Leonard is offering 25% off her ENTIRE shop.  Have you seen her new charm bracelet?  It’s such a sweet gift.  If I had a daughter away at college, this would be a perfect treat to get in the mail all year long.

Lindsey of The Pleated Poppy is offering a tiered discount depending on how much you buy.  Her stuff is so well made and I get SO many compliments whenever I have her stuff with me.

Andrea of Knitty Bitties is offering great discounts depending on what time you order.  Hint: her mug rugs and coffee coats make great teacher gifts.

Maggie of Gussy Sews is also offering discounts depending on what time you order today.  I’m loving this fabric combo.

Sweet Hannah is offering 20% off her shop PLUS a free necklace when you spend $25!  I totally hit this up already.  Her stuff is soooo cute.  I have earrings and necklace and get compliments on it all the time.  Plus, she has items where a portion is donated to various causes.  Sign me up.

Between these girls and some serious Amazon shopping today, I’m hoping to be done.  Well, except for stocking stuff.  Obvs.

In between all of your holiday craziness, could you find a few minutes to pray?  Because isn’t that what the holiday is REALLY about?  Stacey is a young mom.  Stacey has five kids.  Stacey is rad.  And Stacey has cancer.  A rare form of cancer.  A cancer that they thought they had killed off, but seems to be creeping back into her body.  And Stacey has a family that is begging for healing.  Her babies need their mommy.  Can you help pray for Stacey today?  You can read more about her story here, and if you’d like to follow along her journey, she has a caring bridge page here.

Are you almost done shopping?  Are you gonna spend some quality time at the computer today in your jammies?  Will you pray for Stacey today?  And tomorrow?  And the next day?

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

Thank you J. So, so much. The phrase “I believe” has significant meaning for us this month.

Oh no! We’ve been hit by the flu bug too – it wiped out our extended family and cancelled Thanksgiving dinner :( We are praying for you!

And it made me miss Black Friday – so I did most of my shopping on Etsy – I love being able to support small businesses!

Miss A had a lava flow on her way home from gymnastics tonight. It covered the entire front of her person. And the entire car seat. And her hair. And the floor of the car. 90 minutes later, we are *finally* done. Except now she feels fine and we feel nauseous. Gack.

Almost done with Christmas shopping but since your blog has a habit of leading me into temptation….

    Cheers,
    Caryl

PS Cancer is a beast. Many prayers for Stacey.

I have a young family and we are doing Christmas on our own for the first time this year (i’m pregnant and cannot fly to our far-away relatives). My mom LOVES Christmas. So growing up we always had piles and piles of presents. And last year at my parents’ house, we opened presents from 7:00 AM – 1:00 PM (breaking for a 1 hour for showers and breakfast). It was too overwhelming for my husband, me, and our 9 month old. Too much!!! Too much time shopping and opening, too much money spent, too much stuff, too much of all the wrong things. I really don’t want my kids looking back on Christmas and remembering getting piles and piles of stuff. This year I am trying really hard to be intentional with the Christmas memories that we create for our babes and also looking forward to starting our own traditions. I like your 3 presents idea. Can you elaborate? How did you arrive at the 3? Are they 3 big presents? Have you always done only 3 presents? Do you also do stocking stuffers, too? I need details and a model for a less materialistic Christmas . Thanks for sharing!
