World Market Fall Update

You know those stores that you just absolutely love, but for some reason you kinda forget to go into them?

That’s how World Market is to me.

I can wander around the aisles for hours and have the hardest time not putting just about every single thing into my basket.

But at this stage in my life, with 8 little hands threatening to wreak havoc on all the pretty displays, I tend avoid places that don’t also offer giant multi packs of paper towels and loafs of bread.

Which is getting really old my friends.  Really old.

So when I was asked if I would blog about how to use World Market products to update my home for Fall…I jumped at the opportunity.

And I turned it into a full on event.

Andy stayed home with the bigs, and I took Owen.  Just the two of us.  To casually peruse the aisles of pretty.  For as long as we wanted.  With no one bugging me.

A Mommy and O-Bo date.

It was heavenly.

Oh my word you guys.

My head was spinning from all the awesome.

I was wishing I had more like $10,000 to burn.  (More on that later.)

I stared at the lighting for altogether too long.  Trying to magically think of a place where I could hang them.

I especially wanted to marry the cream seashell-esque chandeliers and that brown and gold drum one.

But alas, I had nowhere to put them.  No matter how hard I tried to make up a place.

Then there was the little side table in the most perfect shade of slate gray/blue with the little library pulls?!  They would look PERFECT in my bedroom.  PERFECT.

The INCREDIBLE kitchen cart?  I may or may not have walked by petting it on more than one occassion.

The map covered giant ampersand wanted to come home with me.  I could hear it begging me to put it in my cart.  Like a puppy in a petstore window.  Except that I’m much more likely to give in to the ampersand than I am another dog.

These items are liable to end up on my Christmas wishlist.

Rainbow colanders and mugs that instantly remind me of Meg made me smile.

My addiction to all things hooks was taunted by this collection of ceramic, handpainted hooky happy.

But like the lights, a girl can only have so many colanders, mugs, and hooks.  Which is a sad, sad thing.

And then there was the lime and aqua ikat kitchen/dining chair.  Ikat is so hip these days.

And then I saw it.

The chair that was the perfect shade of peacock blue.

Peacock. blue. velvet.

Yes please.

This chair needed to come live in my living room.

But imagine my sadness when the employee told me that they were out of stock and wouldn’t be in in time for my post deadline.

I seriously wanted to cry.

No.  Really.  Tears.

This chair had become my BFF.  I had sat in it.  It was comfortable.  It was soft.  We were in love.  And if not for the four kids and husband I already had, we were considering running off to Bora Bora together.

It would have been beautiful.

But alas, it wasn’t part of the plan.

After much whining and begging and pleading to please please just give me the display model, I decided on a different chair.  (With secret plans to maybe go back and get this chair…shhhh…)

Bittersweet.

But I brought home a new chair.  A chair we have actually been eyeing for years, but never willing to spend the money on.

A brown leather chair.

The chocolate brown leather chair that Andy has always wanted since we first did our wedding registry all those years back.

You know the one.

The one that is at a place that shall remain nameless but rhymes with Lottery Yarn.

The one that is almost FIVE TIMES the cost of the one that World Market has.

It was a little bit of a splurge, but isn’t it great?

It’s just perfect in that little space!

Add a lime green throw I already had and it’s all cozy and matchy to my curtains and ready for some cooler weather snuggling in front of the fire.

Except that it was almost 100 degrees yesterday.

Dear Fall, Get your act together already.  Love, j.

(Incidentally please ignore the HIDEOUS gigantic ridiculous speaker above said chair.  It is the bane of my existence.  I cannot stand it.  But Andy built them in college or something and is convinced that it is practically invisible since it’s painted the same color as the wall.  It is not.  It is awful.  And after seeing it in this picture, I might just accidentally stab it with a kitchen knife today.)

Moving on.

I also brought home some velvety throw pillows.

I really needed to swap out the pillows I had made a while back.

They were dingy and falling apart from being used all this time.

And they were bright happy colors…more suitable for spring and summer.

I love that these new pillows are still fun colors but the velvety jewel tones give them a more autumn/winter vibe without having to go to the traditional oranges and reds of the season.

Because while I like the standard colors of fall, they wouldn’t really work with my existing decor.

I also grabbed a couple of chocolatey ones too.

Because they were only $9.99!!!

Yes, really.

I literally looked at the tag about 14 times convinced that there was a number missing.

$9.99 for velvety fun pillows.  Not on sale.  Not with a coupon.  Just everyday.  I have no idea where else you can get throw pillows that cheap.

And they came in fantastic colors (now I wish I had taken a picture)…greys and blues and there was a lime color that I might need to go back for.  Need.

Plus, it really matches the chair.

And the speaker.  Oh wait.  No.  No it does not.

Because nothing matches the speaker.

Because the speaker is awful.

The speaker must die.

So what do you think?  Have you been to World Market?  Do you need to go today and buy throw pillows?  Pretty sure you do.  :)

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

Andy tried to get me to buy him beer or wine with my gift card. “But it’s supposed to be about updating our home for Fall…” “Then get me some autumn beer or something with pumpkins on it…”

      Boys.

I seriously did not see the speaker. I was too smitten with the curtains behind and the throw…
I really love that it’s painted to match the wall. It makes me smile at the cleverness and male logic.

Ha! I laughed when I saw this post because I had JUST returned from World Market! Our stores here in MN had closed for a couple of years but they just re-opened last month. I was soooo excited, my favorite!

I LOVE World Market! I love to touch everything and buy nothing. I could go for hours! I love all of the lighting there too!

Gorgeous! The blue chair would have been awesome, but with four children the leather will be much more durable. ;) I know…sometimes as moms we hate to have to be practical but it is the truth. And I’m giggling at that speaker. It really doesn’t look bad at all, but I think every house has those “guy”things that we hate. And $10 for those pillows?! Crazy cheap…I need to get to a World Market!

Love that store too! Loved your comments re the speaker and I sure can relate…my husband is still clinging to a number of obscenely large and ugly speakers too. In fact he still has a record player (with a heavy layer of dust on it) and records….

Don’t enter me. I am in Australia. Surely that speaker can go behind the chair now?? LOL
