InstaFriday

I heard Instagram referred to as micro-blogging.

And I think that’s totally true.

But I love doing a round up for my actual blog too…and I always smile looking back at the week through this funky filtered lens.

I’m always amazed at how great of a week we had…even if I didn’t realize it before.

A day of great mourning has arrived.

While I could get my five year old to nap 2+ hours like a champ…my three year old girls were making it very clear that they were outgrowing theirs.

I cannot tell you how many weeks Henry, the Kindergartner, was sound asleep…and the girls were playing/whining/crying/playing in their rooms.

That is, until I drive the 3.2 miles for school pick up.

Then Lucy passes out in two seconds flat.  After fighting me for the last 2 hours.

Bah.

Tuesdays it’s just me and Lu.

(And O.)

I’m really not a get-down-on-the-floor-and-play-with-you Mom…but I need to try.

Especially on my Lucy Days.

I think she could use some intentional Mama Time.

This week we played Restaurant.  She took my order.  Prepped it.  Served it.

All with a smile.

For both of us.

We grabbed lunch after Owen’s dedication.

And he got to hang with his great grandma.

MY grandma.

Oh, how I adore the photos of my most favoritest lady in the whole wide world loving on my babies.

Did I mention she is my favorite?

Ever?  Of all time?

I hope my kids think she’s as awesome as I do.

The other side of grandmas was also in town for the dedication.

Who happily read the girls Bible stories.

Complete with cute voices.

The cuddle sesh going on here is priceless.

Okay, I know.  Those of you in the Midwest and the South are going to hate me right now.

I live in California…but where I live, we get cool coastal breezes year round.  It is RARELY over 75 degrees.  It feels like a heat wave when that temp approaches 80.  Seriously.

But here’s the rub: since it so rarely gets hot here, no one has air conditioning.  Or pools.  In fact, I only have one fan.  Because for 350 days of the year, they wouldn’t be used.

But those 6 days…when it’s almost 100 and there is no reprieve?  And my kids aren’t used to heat?

We practically melt.

Hot babies are fussy.  For the record.

Everyone was so miserable at one point that we headed to the mall.  Where it is air conditioned.

And I got really dirty looks from the girl who works at Claire’s.  Four littles in that store was probably not my smartest choice.

My water bill is likely to be atrocious this month.

The kids played in the sprinklers and plastic baby pool a lot.

In some cases fully clothed.  I just didn’t even care anymore.

I ran inside to grab some towels to find this sassy girl hanging with her dog.

Not staged.

My dogs are so ridiculously awesome with my kids.

Many tears will be shed when they die.

But I’ll vacuum less.  So that’s a perk.

(btw, the dog isn’t growling…Jilly is pulling up on her lip.  and the dog doesn’t care.)

I’m realizing more and more that I show my family love by cooking.

Monday morning French toast?

Served with powdered sugar.

Love, Mama.

You ever buy something that you thought was cute by the picture online (obviously or you wouldn’t have bought it in the first place), but when you get it in the mail and open the package, you literally squeal because it’s 100 times cuter in real life than in the  photograph?

That.

I can’t wait to hang it in the kids’ bathroom.

(It’s from here.  On clearance because it’s being retired.  No affiliation.  Just sharing my happy find.)

I have had no energy this week.

Motivation took a trip to Tahiti.

And so marks the third time this load of laundry was re-washed.

Beach towels and jammies.

Pretty much sums up our week.

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

I am with you on the California heat! It was 102 in my neck of the woods this week! Kinda takes the fun out of one of my favorite fall things… a cup of hot apple cider.

I love that your dogs are so patient with your littles. Great dogs are such a blessing.

Btw, the child dedication for Owen…priceless! ;D

I love the picture of Jilly with the dog. And her hand in his mouth, pulling at his lip. With her legs crossed so casual and carefree. Aren’t dogs like that just the best? Our dog puts up with so much from our kids. I am so with you on the vacuuming. I’ll be sad, but in the back of my mind I’ll think of my floors and that will get me through the grieving. // have a great week!

Girl I getcha about the heat thing. We’re in Santa Barbara, and seriously CANT. HANDLE. THE HEAT. We get it so rarely that it’s not something we could ever get used to! We don’t have kiddos though, so I feel like you guys have it worse–fussy kids don’t sound fun ;)

I’m sorry, but where is this magical place that does not require air conditioning?!? And how do I not live there. Hot weather is the bane of my existence. And I live in Kansas. :( I shouldn’t be complaining today, though…it is only 51 here.

I totally get the mourning over no naps! My 4 year old is in the in between stage where some days he will and some days he won’t… though he really does still need at least an hour nap daily.

This is my first week linking up and I wanted to thank you for hosting this!! It’s a lot of fun and I look forward to being back next week!
