What does one do the day before Not-Walter comes?

One KILLS TIME.

Stays busy.

Inserts random activities into an otherwise boring day.

One could try to play it off like they are celebrating the last day of three versus four…

but one would be lying.

Because it’s really all about not being home and ending up googling all manner of ridiculous all. day. long.

Jilly had Physical Therapy.

And then Occupational Therapy.

And then Speech Therapy.

And then…we headed to Toys R Us to spend some birthday gift cards.

The Bigs had been playing dress up (I could hear scenarios of Spiderman saving the Princess upstairs…which, shockingly, seemed to always end in the Princess crying.  Go figure.)

So they asked if they could go to the toy store in their outfits.

Sure.  Whatever y’all want.

I was actually SHOCKED that Henry went out in public like this.  He’s not usually quite so bold (he wouldn’t even participate in crazy hat day at preschool).  But I loved that he embraced his inner silly side.  I realize now that I hardly took any pictures of Lucy and NONE of Jilly…I guess I was just so impressed with Henry being out of his usual comfort zone that I focused on him.

While shopping, they tried out the “hoopda hoops”.

Turns out Spidey can move.

Hips don’t lie.

Oh the decisions!

Lucy picked out her item in 12 seconds flat (a 5 pack of dress up dresses and accessories).  I showed her other things but nope, she knew what she wanted and nothing else was tempting her. Decisive.  That’s my girl.  Good and bad depending on the situation.

Henry, on the other hand, had to do a full assessment of every aisle before he could even begin to consider his selection.

While it can drive me batty (“Henry, you have ten minutes to decide or we are going to leave without something for you.  You can try again another time.”)  But I must admit that his difficulty deciding is because he is astonishingly honest (and mature) about the whole process.  I constantly heard things like:

“Well, that looks fun, but I don’t think I’d really play with it more than a few minutes Mom.”

“Nah.  I have a car kinda like that.  I don’t need two of them.”

“Hmmm, I have lots of toys at home, I just want to find something I will actually play with.”

So two points for my boy’s heart, but minus one point for mama’s patience.

And what gift card spending celebration is complete without Happy Meals and some time at the Play Place?

The kids were sooooo good.  They ate all of their food without complaining or rushing.  Jilly ate any scrap leftovers (Girlfriend is a little garbage disposal!).  I chatted with my mom on the phone.

Happiness.

And then we went home and napped.

Because we were pooped.

Okay, the girls napped.

Henry is slowly outgrowing naps (boo!!!!) and while he’s usually better about staying in his room for quiet time, the purchase of a “web shooter” (some crazy device that hurls shoelaces across the room) proved too much for quiet time.

As for me, it’s kinda tough to get a nap in when Spiderman has apparently decided that “saving you” with his webs is on his personal agenda for the day.

Lucky for Spiderman, I think he’s cute.

Finally, the girls woke up and shared the “Prinshesh” dresses.

Jilly felt SO fancy in hers.  She kept smoothing it down and showing it to me grinning like a fool.

I don’t know why I hadn’t thought to put one on her before this.  She likes being pretty too!

Last, but not least, Daddy texted on his way home “Have you started dinner?  Do you feel like cooking?”

Um…let me think…no….and no again.

So, we headed out…our final time as “Gibson, Party of 5” and went to Applebee’s for dinner (Tuesdays kids eat for 99 cents!).

When I told the kids Daddy was taking us out to dinner, Lucy immediately announced “Diwwy and me wear our Prinshesh dresses okay?”

How could I say no?

It was a busy, packed day.

It was a sweet, fun day.

I’m glad I hobbled my way out and didn’t just sit at home.

As for today…well…I’m making Andy take me out to a big country breakfast (since I can’t eat after 8:30 am!!!)…and pretty much just hanging out?

Don’t forget to set your phone alarms and if you’re on Insta snap a pic with hashtag #whilejgetscut

A few of you have been tweeting me screenshots of your phones and it is CRACKING. ME. UP.

I’ll be updating throughout the day via Instagram (I’m jeannettg) and depending on how things go, Andy might update the blog for me.  We will see.  This whole scheduled c-section thing is so weird, I really don’t know what to expect.  (I labored with Henry for like 26 hours and had him naturally…and while I ended up with a c-section with the girls, I first labored for 28 hours…this whole walk in, lie down, here’s your baby thing is SO foreign!)

Peace out kids.

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

My C-section was a breeze. Once that epidural is in – you’ll be good to go. The initial onset of morphine made me nauseated and I had to throw up lying flat on my back. I kept saying I HAVE to sit up but the nurse said “just turn your head to the side hon” and I threw up fine. who knew? The morphine had me wanting to sit up DURING the delivery too. I just felt like I HAD to do it, but, of course, the doctor was saying NO! You’ll feel no pain, but I actually felt the ‘sensation’ of the scapel going across my abdomen. weird, but no pain. Then the doctor pushed down HARD on my stomach so the baby would pop out. Apparently, they don’t reach in and retrieve the little one. Enough advice for now. Rest in the Lord and congratulations for making it until the end!

great maturity for the gift card receiver… i have always told the grandparents that part of giving a gift card is also the JOY of taking them to pick out their treasure.

Only you would have such an AWESOME day-before-Baby day! I was loving the dress up pics as they came up on FB, and now, Oh, my Goodness! Too fun. And Henry’s reasoning it out is just so special. Such dear children you have, and it will be a riot to see how the littlest Gibson adds his own personality to the mix.

Know that you have been and are being prayed for, Friend.

    So exciting!

Sounds like it was great day for everyone. Just curious, how is Jill’s speech coming along? Is she learing sign language? (I thought you touched on this in the past.) If so, would you be willing to do a future blog post about that subject? (You know…in all your spare time!!!)

Congrats on your new addition! Will be praying for you and your family.
