Tell it to stop.

My boy, the firstborn, “graduated” from Preschool yesterday.

You know, I was all annoyed and indignant as we pulled up to the PACKED parking lot last night to find parents with bouquets and flower leis and all manner of paraphenalia for their “graduates”.

I wanted to scream: “You people know this is FAKE, right?!  I mean, ‘yay you paid the school every month!!!!’ WOOHOO!!!”

And we sat in a hot auditorium watching altogether too long photo slideshows, while wrangling little sisters, and I couldn’t get over how silly it all was.

But the truth is that I’m really just bitter.

Bitter that Time steals when we aren’t looking.

When we don’t even notice.

When we are so busy with the everyday that we don’t realize that it’s rushing past us.

And while my boy’s graduation from preschool may have been a little contrived, the truth is that it marked the passage of a year… and I do not like it Sam I am.  I do not like it in a box.  I do not like it with a fox.  I will not like it here or there.  I will not like it anywhere.

He starts Kindergarten next year.

Excuse me while I freak out.

{p.s. I updated the this post with the giveaway item and deadline.  You want to go look.  Trust me.}

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

It is true Jeannett, time passes in a blink! Nick is 20 years old now and Alexis is officially a 7th grader and will be 13 this year! Yet, when I call upon my memories of yesterday, I can clearly see both of my kids, from the day they were born, to the many ‘milestones’ in their lives. So, I suppose the point of all of this is to cherish and embrace each – whether good, bad or in between. Thinking of you all always and praying for your beautiful family! Love, Aunt Karrie

I love you! I thought the same thing at my son’s preschool graduation. “Yay you graduated when you never did the weekend homework!” ;) I figure he has all his life to do homework and he knew his letters well. But there were large extended families, with balloons and flowers, etc.

But I loved it – it was so bittersweet. Our preschool is the daycare that my son has attended since he was 12 wks old and we’ve watched him and his friends all grow together from babies, so it will be so sad to say goodbye. I will cry my heart out when Kindergarten starts, I know it.

I was cracking up over your Instagram postings last night. You are spot on… but when I really thought about it, preschool was pretty much the only time my kids were in a place for more than a year with the same caregivers. I hated to leave them as much as they hated to see our kids go.
I’ve graduated kids from preschool, kindergarden {although our school made ZERO issue of kids graduating as once you’re done with K, you go on to first}, elementary, middle, high school, and now, AAAKKK, college. As much as it’s hard to pass these milestones, it’s what God has planned for us. To love and nurture the next generation so they can go on into the world and pass it on to others. He didn’t give us kids to hold on to… a child never learns to walk on his own if we continue to hold his hand. The art of letting go is such a process.
Savor these moments. I remember hearing “they grow so fast” from all the older women as I was busy wrangling two toddlers. At the time I thought “thank God!!” but as the sands of time began to slip like CRAZY, I wanted to hang on, but eventually learned to celebrate each achievement.
What a gift to hold them gently and pat their bottoms on to the next thing… prodding, encouraging and helping them explore and discover.
What a handsome little graduate. He’s absolutely precious.

Truer words were never spoken. I am going thru my sets of Lasts now with our ‘baby’ who is starting her senior year next year. Last first day of school, last choir concert, last cheer for football. Makes me want to cry just thinking about it. She said she cried when she registered for her senior year classes because she’s not ready to grow up yet. So, dear Jeanett, TREASURE these “firsts”. <3

You are married to my nephew, who now is a father himself. I can tell you still all about the night he was born…seems not so long ago. As for my own three, well you know I mourn for my “Little ones”, yet I do find the joy of having them as young adults. It is true…time is not kind to mothers, fathers, aunts and uncles. Enjoy every minute my dear.
