InstaFriday

Link up the everyday moments of your week.

Because it isn’t really the big things that tell the story of your life, but the bitty things.

I accidentally ran into Andy at the grocery store buying my Mother’s Day gifts.

This was SUPER weird, because he was unexpectedly off early (even to him!), he works 20 miles away, and I had intended to go to the store hours earlier, but hadn’t gotten around to it…

He told me that he saw me first and considered running down an aisle so I wouldn’t see him.

Except he knows that while I appreciate the gestures on Mother’s Day, it’s not a big deal to me so it’s not like I’d be all offended.

He took Henry to see Avengers, so the girls and I cuddled up on the couch and watched The Little Mermaid.

I love simple nights with my family.

I snuck out on Saturday morning with Uncle Marc to do some yard sale hunting.

I found a fun glass jar (that now has a spray painted lid and lives in the kids’ bathroom with cotton balls in it), a big jar of marbles, and a second skateboard for the kids.

Fun finds.  Nothing fancy.  But a great way to spend my morning.

Mother’s Day was super simple.

We lolly gagged around the house and the kids never got out of pj’s.

They played outside and were downright FILTHY by the end of the day.  Outside.  In public.  In last night’s jammas.

I always kinda mourn the fact that we don’t live on acreage in the country where my kids can climb trees, jump in creeks, and catch frogs and whatnot.  So this is my suburban alternative.

I like it.

I had specifically requested the big Starbucks cold cup as my Mother’s Day gift.

I have the smaller version and I am convinced that iced water tastes better in it.

And no, the knock off ones you can get at Target or Pier 1 for a fraction of the cost won’t be the same.

Marketing is an amazing thing.  And I’m a sucker.  (Which is funny because I’m not really a big fan of Starbucks at all!).

I have recently discovered the yummy that is the Passionfruit Iced Tea…with half the sweetner.  Good stuff.

We had another trip to the ER this week.

In an effort to strike that delicate balance between being transparent and sharing our story, and protecting Jill’s privacy, I can never bring myself to take a photo of her in a hospital bed.  It just seems like too much.  Too personal.  Too vulnerable.  And just altogether inappropriate.

So I try to let my prayer warriors know what is going on by snapping a picture of something else that will tell the story.

I am forever grateful for the incredible people…strangers around the globe…who immediately respond with prayers for my little goofy family.  I cannot thank any of you enough.

One thing I wish for all special needs parents?

That they had the incredible support system around them that we do.

It takes but one text and we are flooded with prayer, meals appear magically on our doorstep, offers for babysitting are made, and emails asking if we need anything at all fill my inbox.

While I often say no (because at some point there is pride, but also because this is part of our life…we just have to do, you know?)…it is invaluable to know that it is there if I need it.

My friend Tracy knows me well.  She showed up unannounced at my doorstep with a gift bag filled with three mind numbing magazines (a gossip mag, THE infamous Time issue, and Real Simple), and three bags of my ultimate favoritest of all time gummy bears.  You know, one for each magazine.

She nailed it.

Now it’s your turn!

Have you checked out our fundraiser yet?  Take a minute and consider it…purdy please?

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

How funny that you ran into your hubby buying your Mother’s Day present. :) It wouldn’t bother me either…just the fact that my husband loves and cares about me enough to do sweet things for me is enough! I love the simple times with my kids the best too…we have movie night every Friday and I love snuggling with them on the couch, eating popcorn, and experiencing some of my old favorites through their eyes. Hope your little one is feeling much better…it looks like you have such a wonderful network of support!

Thank you for hosting InstaFriday. When I read posts like the last two you’ve written about being a parent, I’m relieved and encouraged. Because you have a lot on your plate, yet there’s something about the way you write that I know that God is with you. There’s a joy even in the midst of ER trips and life happening. It is evident that the Lord has given you grace to parent your children, be a great wife, and influence others with your writing. Thank you for sharing your story and life.

Hi! I’m stopping by from the Pleated Poppy and I will be linking up as well. Thank you for hosting this! It’s really fun to get a little glimpse into the everyday moments. Count me in as a fan of Starbucks Passionfruit tea. In an attempt to cut calories, I made the mistake of ordering it without sweetener this week… yuck! I need me some sugar!
Finally, and most importantly, I hope your little one is on the mend; I’ll send some prayers your way.

    Cheers,
    Jessie

I’m pretty sure we have matching nails right now. Also, I’m pretty sure that we might even have matching dogs. I think it’s super funny that you took a pic of your hubby buying your gifts. SO great! I was just asking my girlfriends what their expectations for Mother’s Day were? Very interesting views. Also I am pretty sure that this is one of my all time favorite link ups so thanks for hosting. Hope you have a great weekend, with no ER trips in Jesus Mighty Name ;)

Honestly Jeannett I consider it an honor to pray for people.

I know that we dont “know” each other – and that doesnt matter to me! Its wonderful you have a community that is there for you – readers and friends that pray for you! We ALL need that.

Its awesome to be on the recieving end of prayers and the giving end – its really what this life is about – being there in real life and through whatever media we use!

Thank you so much for the Insta Friday – I love it!!
