InstaFriday

Is it just me or did this week FLY by???!!!

Are you on Instagram (I’m jeannettg) and have lots of great pics with nothing to do with them?  Put them to use and tell the story of your week!

Henry was student of the week this week for good behavior, and this questionnaire was part of his special bulletin board.

There are a few things that CRACK me up about this:

a) he doesn’t OWN a remote control plane (is this a hint?), b) the closest he gets to video games are the few apps on the iPad we let him play about once a week (if that), c) he really could eat PB&J sammies three times a day if I let him, d) we have probably been to McDonald’s all of five times in the last five years, and d) I have no idea what “I had a little turtle” is.

I like to have fresh flowers in my house at all times if I can manage it.  Usually, I cut flowers from my garden, but it’s not quite blooming yet. So I grabbed these from our farmer’s market.

Bright red ranunculas on my yellow coffee table?

Happy.

Jill’s hair is getting sooooo long.

And it’s so thin and whispy and pin straight…I’m seriously considering getting it cut into a bob.

Part of me hates the thought of cutting her hair so young, but I also think she’d look ridiculous cute.

Thoughts?

The kids were given this Thomas the Train Alphabet Book a while ago, and I always cringe when they want me to read it aloud to them.

X is for Xmas???  Really people?!

Look, I’m not even getting into the whole “crossing out Christ” controversy…but more simply, how do I read that out loud?

I mean, Xmas isn’t a word at all.  And if I pronounce it Christmas…well, that starts with a C.

I’m about to throw the book away entirely for this page alone.

I sat down to blog the other morning…and decided I needed to do this instead.

I’m notoriously bad about Bible time.

And yet, I feel so much better when I do it.

Out of the blue, and a complete surprise, I got a package of edible fruit.

From Caroline.

And it made me cry.  That this blogging friend from the other side of the country (literally) thought of little old me and wanted to encourage my family and let me know she has been praying for us.

Amazing hearts.  All of you.  I’m so encouraged by it.

These are from last week, but since I didn’t get a proper InstaFriday post up, I thought I’d include them.

I stopped by Stitch Market last week (because you know, I hadn’t gotten enough of handmade goodness at Queen Bee just the week before!).

First of all, these soaps by Poppy Soap Co…HEAVENLY.  Oh my word you guys.

And the fact that when you buy a bar for yourself, she donates a bar to the local women’s shelter?!

Not only am I blown away by the generosity…I love the idea that yes, even the women at the shelters want to smell pretty and be beautiful too.

And we can honor that.

My friend Joy makes these fantastic signs out of reclaimed wood.

She doesn’t have a shop…yet.

I’m working on that.  ;)

All of the jewelry from Saylor Rose was gorgeous.

But I really wanted those pretty necklaces with the lockets.

I was good though.

Which is bad.

Except that now I’m seeing she is having 20% off her shop…uh oh.

Look away Andy.  Just look away…

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

I know all about that song (I used to work at a daycare), it goes:
    I had a little turtle
    His name was tiny Tim
I put him in the bathtub
To see if he could swim
He drank up all my water
    glug, glug, glug
He eat up all my soap
    (make an eating sound- ha)
And now he’s sick in bed with a bubble in his throat
    Bubble, bubble, bubble
    Bubble, bubble, bubble
Bubble… bubble… POP!!!!! (clap with your hands)

Stopping by for the first time through Tesha’s Treasures. I was hoping to find a week in photo link up and I did!!! My oldest daughter has the same kind of hair and yes it is sooo much easier to keep it in a bob!

A bob would be very cute on Jill and, as a bonus, would be easier for you to care for with a baby around (less combing=easier in our house).

If your kids love that book too much for you to toss it, send me the dimensions of the “x” space and I will happily make an alternate “x is for x-ray” or “x is for xylophone” for you to glue over (or if the dimensions work I’ll try to send a sticker). I’ve done that before. “X is for Xmas” is a freaking nightmare. (former teacher here)

The book, really? Irritating…haha. So glad to see a “normal” instafriday post from you :) Jill’s braid is too cute, and so funny about Henry’s answers!

Those flowers and your pretty yellow table are divine. That would make me happy after the week you have had, you deserve more than chocolates and flowers. Seriously. Thanks again for the link up.

Don’t cut Jill’s hair! Maybe a trim, or even a few inches but not shorter than shoulder length. I hate short bobs on little girls. They are so ugly. They make them look ridiculous. That bowl cut needs to have died in the 70’s! Besides, she has the ultimate southern california hair – a blonde pony tail! Don’t cut it all off.

LOL ~ i was going to write out the words to the turtle song for you… but I see someone has you all squared away on the turtle song, now! LOL. :)

This is great. We sing I Had a Little Turtle during bathtime. Isn’t funny what you can learn about your kids. People are always asking me about things my daughter tells them. I don’t know what half of them are about. She has a great imagination.

i’ve been thinking about your family a ton this week after reading your recent post about your sweet LO, and i don’t even know you! thanks for reminding me to do my quiet time- i’m signing off right now to do it. sometimes you’ve just got to turn off the computer and sit down at the kitchen table. just coffee and Bible in hand. and hope your toddler gives you 20-30 minutes of peace :)

My daughter’s hair is very thin and fine as well. I decided to cut it because by the end of the day, it always looked so ratty and nasty. I was a little hesitant (I have long hair and love it), but she looks adorable, and it doesn’t get so ratty with it shorter.

  16. 16

I say Bob….our neighbor just cut both her girls hair into a bob and they are stinking adorable. I think it’s the perfect solution for whispy thin hair and she would be so cute!!! (not that she’s not already)
I just discovered a book of Adam’s that has the same Xmas thing…so annoying!

  17. 17

One of my best friends has a little blonde girl with a bob and it is adorable. Plus, when her hair grows back out, it might end up thicker since it will all be starting from one length. She does lots of tiny barrettes in the side to hold her hair out of her face. So cute!

Go for it and cut the hair! When my older daughter was 4, I did it, and got her bangs, and it was ahh.dorable. I brought in a picture of Jennie Garth’s daughter Fiona from about 3 years ago, and it was so cute. Glad this week’s been better for you!!

Jilly would look adorable in a bob! My oldest has had hers in a wedge-y bob since she was 2 and it is so easy to take care of and adorable! My 3 year old on the other hand, still hasn’t had her first haircut. It’s blonde (still have yet to figure out where that came from!) and curly. I will weep when the hubs finally makes me cut it! Glad this week is turning out better for you!

Jill looks ridiculous cute no matter what. :) I miss doing these InstaFridays. Just haven’t gotten back into blogging or anything since I took a break from FB. Ended up taking a break from everything. Go figure! ha

Ok, so I am joining the party later than usual tonight, but I wanted to make an entrance…I guess?! Who am I kidding, this week has been crazy and I so feel you on the flying by! Now I need to find the pause button, because my mama is in town and I want that to last forever!

Jill’s hair is adorable, but I am a sucker for a bob too and I am sure she would rock it well!

Oh and your friend, ya, she needs a shop, like now! Her signs are beautiful!

Hope you have a great week!

LOVING the colorful flowers!! They would be so pretty against yellow! That questionnaire is too funny :) It cracks me up what kids will answer on things!! That book with x for Christmas?! Seriously?! No one says Merry X-mas! And for good reason too! Is it really that hard to write “Christ” before it? Or would that just offend some overly-sensitive guilty people?! Maybe just rip that page out?! Oiy! LOVE the bars of soap! i might have to go get one! hand-crafted soap is a weakness. Ahhh! And what a super great cause too! Thank you for hosting this :)

  1. […] Whew! It’s Friday! How was your week? Mine was a little nuts, as we were trying to wrap up Diablo‘s June issue. We didn’t quite finish, but we will soon. I’m looking forward to a fun weekend ahead, which includes a wedding reception and a trip to the ballet! Here are some of my iPhone snaps from the last week (or three).
