Peace out boring rut. This week, I’m bringing it.

I realized something this morning.

Yes, this morning…as in, by 5:45 a.m.

I sat at the computer with nothing to write.  And not only that, I didn’t FEEL like blogging.  I had a few ideas, but they all seemed…boring.  I looked through my camera media card and there was nuthin’.  Nada.

And I realized that I’ve been unusually BORED lately.

I like routine.  We do routine.  Routine is good.

But lately…I think it’s been about all I’ve been doing.

I think it goes back to the first three months of this pregnancy when I was so miserably sick.  Survival Mode was our gig.  Every evening I thought to myself: “Is everyone still alive?”  Check.  “Do they have all of their limbs?”  Check.

SUCCESS!

I’d have high fived myself if I could find the energy to peel myself up.

In the meantime, my house was GROSS.  And messy.  And poor Andy got this text message.  A lot.

“Bring home dinner.  Can’t cook.  Might die.”

So as soon as I felt better, I dove right back into Routine Mode.

I cleaned.  I straigthened.  I kept up on laundry as if my life depended on it.  Man, I’ve been so good about laundry.  I could get a medal of valor for it.  If they gave medals out for Laundry Keeping Uppage.

And then…the last couple of weeks, I’ve been downright raincloud, bored out of my skull, don’t know what to do with myself, grumpy for no reason, moody Jeannett.

A-HA! she types.

All that jumping back into routine has left no room for FUN.  No room for creativity.  No room for doing silly things.  No room for COLOR.

And with that, I do declare: THE REMAINDER OF THIS WEEK SHALL BE FULL OF CREATIVE COLOR AND HAPPINESS.

So often I think I’m not the creative type.

After all, have you seen the blogs of those girls who seriously CAME OUT OF THEIR MOTHER’S WOMBS BRANDISHING A GLUE GUN????

Hard to feel creative when you see a post about how someone took duct tape, saran wrap, and a can of spray paint and made some replica of a Pottery Barn cover spread.

But it turns out that I may not be the crafty I see on other blogs, but dang nabbit, I AM a creative girl too!  And I need some happy color fun in my life too.

The laundry can kiss off.

And my guess is that even if you don’t feel like YOU’RE creative, I bet you are.  We all need a little change up in our routine.  We all need a little (or a lot) of color.  It’s not about being perfect, or even blog worthy…but about doing something more exciting than picking up legos and playing some ridiculous game called “Always see the bottom of the laundry basket”.  (Most boring game ever…don’t bother.)  I mean, for Pete’s Sake, I don’t even have anything interesting enough to Instagram!

So this week, I’m busting it out.  Andy, get ready.  The house is gonna be nuts.  I’m gonna have projects.  Yes, you will likely get roped in.  (Don’t husbands always tend to get roped into our projects somehow?!)  Brace Yo’self.

Here is a sampling of things I’m considering for my Week O’ Color:

Painting my kitchen peninsula bright yellow? Been wanting to do this for months but been too scared.

It’s paint. If it looks awful, I’ll make Andy paint it back.

This has been on my Pinterest board for as long as I can remember. Doing it. Finally.

Bring it succulents.

My patio looks like a barren wasteland. Flowers shall be planted. Heading to Farm Supply for more galvanized tubs.

I’m gonna be like the crazy cat lady that has the amazing potted plants. Minus the cats.

Rainbow doormat?  Yes please.

I mean, Andy’s gonna make it for me (he just doesn’t know it yet)…I’ll paint it.

This. Because it is happy.  And colorful.  And easy.

Andy has a vintage toolbox much like this one. He won’t even notice I’ve girlied it up.

It’ll look fabulous on my yellow coffee table.

So, what happy fun colorful creative thing are YOU doing this week? Join me! Creative doesn’t have to involve a glue gun or a sewing machine…promise!

I’m so beyond excited right now.  Giddy.

Home Depot, I’m coming.  I’m bringing Lucy with me.  Can you handle it?

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

I want to come! Look at quilt fabric on a colorful break from your projects :). I want to be creative too.

    Brace yo’self! LOL!!!

I know exactly what you mean about the boredom (and lack of creativity!) that comes along with routine. I’ve been feeling it lately, too!

We’re planning a bedroom makeover for 2013 (it seems so far away), but that doesn’t mean I can’t start making things now — so I started embroidering for the first time and I love it! It’s not early as exciting as a chartruese kitchen island, but it’s something different from my regular knitting and it’s going to be COLORFUL. Perfect.

Here’s what I’ve been up to:

We are totally on the same wavelength. Yesterday as I was looking around on Pinterest, I had this great epiphany (and I mean that sarcastically). Instead of sitting there looking at it, why don’t I do it?

I realized I’ve been in a rut lately. I’ve literally had to drag myself to do any cleaning around my house. I wait to the very last moment to start cooking dinner, which usually winds up with us having late dinners. So I decided to do some sprousing up around my house, so I can be excited about it again. I texted my husband and told him I had so many ideas of things I could do. He was pretty quiet on the other end.

Then I came across a pin that looked so fun and I happened to have all things on hand to make it. So I got off my butt, got everything together, and with the help of my oldest, we made these.

PS Don’t even get me started on my blog. I told myself I wouldn’t slack on it this year, but yet I have. I’m trying to get back on it.

Awesome… Before I got to your projects I thought you were going to spice life up by making colored playdoh with the kids. But no..not you it’s go big or go home, lets paint an island in the kitchen. Love you girl…hysterical. We as you know made cake pops at our house, that was our creativity for the week.

Dude, I hate making stuff like that with the kids. I do it because I know they like it, but it’s always more work/mess than it’s ever worth! I want to do something for ME!

Just this morning I looked at my kitchen island and thought…..turquoise or gray. I’ll jump on your exciting week of color and tackle it without Dave knowing it….only problem is…it will be more work for him than me! :) I love your idea of yellow.

I love love LOVE starting projects when Andy’s not home. Then I don’t have to listen to all the sighing and moaning and general gnashing of teeth as I explain what I’m doing. As a matter of fact, unless he reads this post, he has NO IDEA he will be coming home to a bright yellow kitchen island! SURPRISE! (although, after being married to my crazy, hair brained self for almost 10 years, I can’t imagine that much of anything surprises him anymore.)

Love ALL your ideas! Have fun with it all! You will feel SO much better while doing it and when you are done…Can’t wait to see the results, which won’t take you long at all, cuz you are one of “those kinds of people” who get stuff done! I, on the other hand, have lots and lots of ideas, but rarely accomplish much. Gotta work on that :)

I love the rainbow doormat! How cool! And I so can’t wait to see a bright yellow kitchen peninsula!! Yep, I am guilty of the same thing too – some weeks I think I have zero creativity in my body and it is hard to get off my lazy butt and actually prove myself wrong! When when I get going, I keep going and it feels so good :-) Can’t wait to see what you end up doing!

HAHAHA!! So much for a boring post, huh? I was cracking up and TOTALLY inspired! I’ve been saying I’m going to paint our island for like 6mths now, have I? No! I’ve gotten paint chips etc..What can I say except that I’m one of the WORST procrastinators E.V.E.R!! I had Valentine’s day decor up until Sunday that I didn’t even like..lame..
So guess I’m off to get some aqua paint for my island, and totally copying that RAD doormat!
    Thank you! :)

Oh, Woman, you are so funny! I’m cheered just by reading it. And inspired to do some of my own crafting/gardening.

And really, asking Home Depot if they’re ready? Hilarious.

Asking the succulents to bring it? Ha!

    Enjoy!
