InstaFriday

Simple, random, sweet, cell.

That’s what InstaFriday is all about.

What’d you do this week?

Our local Christian bookstore is going out of business and I scored this book which I’ve been planning on reading for ages.

So far it’s stretching my perceptions of Heaven…which admitedly weren’t based in Scripture…just what I thought seemed right.  D’oh.

Andy was out of town for a few days last week, and at the absolute pinnacle of boredom, I decided to watch the Justin Bieber movie while the kids napped.

I’ve long been fascinated by the Behind the Music, True Hollywood Story kind of things…and you know what?

I like the kid.  Not his music so much…but I have a lot more respect for him, his family, and the way it all went down.  I just totally assumed it was another “Toddlers and Tiaras” kind of mom pushing her kid.  Totally not.  That made me happy.

Henry loves to commandeer his dad’s spot in bed whenever he’s out of town.

A book, a Transformers shirt, and an ICE CREAM in bed?

I win the Best Mom Ever Award.

(Maybe not the Best Wife Ever Award, but you can’t win ’em all.)

“Mommy!  Look at that funny phone over there!  Why is it so big???!!!”

Ah yes…the technology gap is wide.  While part of me is sad..the other part of me realizes how grateful I am that my kids won’t ever (at least not likely) need to bum change off strangers when they need to call home because something went wrong.

I agreed to make sugar cookies for Henry’s preschool class Valentine Party.

Why I didn’t just pick up a box of cookies at the grocery store when I was there that morning?

Because I’m silly and ridiculous and somehow think that’s not enough.

Silly expectations we place on ourselves…especially when I *really* didn’t have time for this that day.

Pink pancakes, strawberry milk, happy heart plates and cups = Valentine’s Breakfast for the kids.

Simple, easy, free.

They were super excited.

I’m learning more and more everyday that childhood is so magical…and it’s really about the simple things.  You don’t have to buy  anything elaborate…heck, you don’t even have to buy anything at all…it’s just about making an effort and making it different.

What’d YOU do this week?

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

I’ve also always been fascinated by Behind the Music, True Hollywood Story, and all that stuff. But Justin Beiber? I don’t know if I could watch that. He seems like he might be a nice kid, but his music….End of story.
You are one brave mama to allow ice cream in bed. That sends shudders all over me just thinking about the idea.
It’s so funny you posted the pic of the pay phone. My husband and I went to our local Goodwill the other day and they had one outside. We haven’t seen one in ages and it was funny seeing one again. Kind of brings back some memories.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I LOVE Lucy’s hair. I wish my hair had some body like that.

My girls take over my bed too when my husband is gone. They get to take turn keeping me up, flailing around, talking and snoring. Almost like a tag-team effect. Love it…….. Kind of.

Wow…I haven’t seen a pay phone in forever! But I have to laugh at his question. Why IS it so big?

Henry in your bed looks a little like E in ours last night…only I was home and so was my husband.

Can I just say how nice it is to see some normal, simple, not over the top Valentine’s Day breakfast? Everyone goes all out it seems nowadays and really, you speak volumes when it really is about the magic of being a child. They don’t need a pony show, just something to make the day special. Sigh, what a nice insta-friday!

    i love that book.
they have “heaven for kids” too!
which i have loved because i lost my mom right before i had my kids and then when they ask about her or i want to share about her, we can talk about heaven and where she is now and i have a good grasp on what to share.
    i love both books.
and i love seeing your week.
thanks for always hosting this lovely sharing.

So true about no needing elaborate toys to have fun with kiddos. I nanny two boys and today we went on a “Secret adventure” and just drove around and looked for animals (in an area where there are lots of cows, horses, ducks etc). They loved it and are already talking about ideas for our next secret adventure!

I rented the Bieber movie just as a joke to torment my teenage son (who is far from a fan) & ended up watching it late one night while I was working, & liked it! I was so impressed with the kid!

And my youngest also takes over his dad’s spot whenever he can. . .

I’m not really doing instafriday anymore as I’m doing a photo a day for 2012 using my phone (and where my HTC Legend doesn’t work, my Canon PowerShot A620).

Yes, without a doubt Mom of the Year award. It’s funny what we let the kids do when the hubs is away. I’m guilty too ;) So cute about the phone. Just think phones with buttons and dial tones will be so weird to them.
