It’s that day of the week again!
The time we all share those random moments captured on our cell phones!
Any phone will do, just no DSLRs okay?
I made this salsa last week…which included roasting all of the ingredients.
I’ve never made salsa before, and let me tell you, this was goooood stuff. The roasting gives it such a fabulous flavor!
You for sure, no doubt, need to make this. Seriously. But a couple notes:
-The recipe calls for 20-25 serrano chilis. Unless you want to burn your taste buds clear off, you want to turn that down…a lot. I like spicy food, and I wouldn’t consider myself a wuss, but I used 12 chilis and it was perfect for me. That being said, if I were to make it for a crowd again, I’d probably cut it down to about 9 chilis. Even the 12 made it too hot for a lot of people.
-This makes A LOT. As in, the biggest pyrex glass bowl in your kitchen a lot. It’s okay. Just pour it into mason jars and hand out to friends/guests/neighbors. They’ll all love you for it.
-I may or may not have had nothing but salsa and chips for lunch one day.
I saw this legit library cart on Craigslist for $10 and knew I had to have it.
It’s heavy and on casters and metal and ready to stand the test of time (it actually has the sticker on it from our University library).
A can of glossy red spraypaint later (it used to be boring beige/brown) and it lives happily in the playroom where the train table used to be.
I smile everytime I see it.
Our playroom is continuing to evolve as the kids are getting older, and while the little wooden table that was in the center of the room was darling, it wasn’t big enough to even have two coloring books on it. Inevitably there was always one book overlapping the pages of the other and the bucket of crayons was getting knocked off the table and then the poor third kid wanted a spot and it was just not working and the simple act of coloring or drawing was turning into a giant disaster.
So, I found a small kitchen table (on Craigslist), painted it crisp white, and had Andy cut the legs down.
I purposely made it a little tall so that I can sit in one of those bitty chairs at the table with the kids.
This works SO much better for us!!!
This pregnancy, I’m all about craving savory foods.
Sweets aren’t all that appetizing…I just want really random FOOD.
So, put your judging eyes away when I tell you that I actually went to the store for some crab salad and ritz crackers.
At 10:00 in the morning.
It sounds so wrong, but it was so right.
I don’t buy individual portioned anything, pretty much ever.
You want yogurt? Go get yourself a bowl and the big tub out of the fridge. Stuff like that. I don’t like paying for packaging.
But, childhood should be magical too. I don’t want to practical them out of some of that simple magic either.
Coming home with a surprise of lunchables (they were on sale for $1 each) made them giddy with delight.
“Can we eat it outside mom?”
Before I knew it, the two bigs had mde themselves a picnic on top of the big metal utility box out front. Because where else would you eat lunch?
Henry taught Lu proper Lunchable stacking etiquette and that the cookie was last, not first.
See? Magic. Best $3 I spent last week.
Before I was a mom, I would have said “NO WAY, NO HOW, I DON”T CARE. JUST NO.” to the following scenario:
Henry does this thing where he will pick some really obscure (and usually tiny) toy to carry around for DAYS. And by carry around, I mean he has it in his pocket all day and puts it on his nightstand at night when he sleeps. When he stumbles out of his room, half asleep at 6:30, you can bet that silly little whatsit is in his hand already. It sits next to him at breakfast and so on.
In this case, it was this little Lego piece. Actually, I’m not even sure it’s a Lego. But he calls it his “rocket engine”.
So, when I heard this, I just CRINGED:
“Mommy! I accidentally dropped my rocket engine on my poop! Will you get it for me?!”
You see, said tiny toy even goes to the bathroom with him. And sure enough, there it was…just sitting right on top. Almost waving at me.
Tears were forming. The chin was wiggling. Four year old heartbreak. He was trying really hard to not cry.
I looked at it. I looked at him. I looked at it. I looked at him.
Every nerve in my being wanted to just flush the dang thing and have it meet all the goldfish in the toilet sky. BUT…I knew that we didn’t have a second one anywhere. It was One of a Kind.
This was a defining Mom Moment.
Dangit. Fine. Let me get some pliers out of your dad’s garage.
And so, I picked it out gingerly and promptly sprayed it down with straght 100% bleach.
And gagged.
And swore that they don’t tell you this stuff in the baby books!!!
Would you pick it out?
Alright, and on THAT note…it’s your turn to link up!
Grab a button, link up, and visit each other! I love seeing the community this is creating! Y’all are getting to be friends!!!
That is hilarious! I would have picked it out too! And gagged while doing it. hahaha
That salsa looks amazing. It’s so funny, I included a photo of my crackers and salsa lunch on this week’s InstaFriday. An easy lunch and delicious! (I guess it isn’t that easy when you had to make the salsa. :)
I’m sorry… I couldn’t help but giggle! I would have fished it out as well, while gagging… and crying… and then I’d never let my husband forget what I had done whenever something equally disgusting came up. I’m sweet like that. :)

It took me a while to get over picking up my dogs poop, but now that I can do that, I could probably fish something out of the toilet too…
Cringe-worthy, yet hilarious. And yes, I would have rescued it. A few months ago my 4 year old somehow managed to drop one of our much-loved board books in exactly the same manner. Although I did fish it out, it went directly into the garbage, much-loved or not. Ewww.
Love the new additions to your playroom!
Thanks for hosting – this is my first time participating. :)

I laughed out loud at the “rocket engine on my poop” sentence. Hilarious. And roasting the veggies before making homemade salsa? GENIUS. I can’t wait to try it! Happy weekending to you!

I haven’t been brave enough to buy something from craigslist…. yet….
I saw your poop dilemma on insta… oh my… I’m torn, my first instinct would be to flush and never look back… but I don’t know if I could resist such a cute face

Hahaha, I feel your pain, but definitely would have fished it out too! All par for the course of being a Mom, right?
been there done that – toys in the toilet and most recently my daughter (12 year old) dropped a ring in the toilet – thankfully dad was home at the time and he rescued it! so just far warning – this may not be the last time! :)
and crab dip and ritz is SO right – pregnant or not – love the stuff!
have a great weekend!

OK hearing you tell it I am like “Heck to the no!” BUT if it were one of MY little 4 year olds with the quivering chin I am sure I would have. When it is your own all bets are off. :) Love, love, love the table idea and the library cart is genius.
I have been meaning to comment on your post from the other day. I went through that with our twins. Both boys were critically ill but Alex was always improving while Eli would take one step forward and 3 back throughout their entire NICU stay. My husband caught me in the nursery one day unpackaging JUST ONE of all of our shower gifts (I missed the shower b/c I was in the hospital having them). I was so embarrassed to admit that I too was waiting for that “other shoe to drop”. It is rough when you have had some trauma related to your babies. I think it is great that you realize it and at the same time you can rely on God for the big kind of faith that will help you take that proverbial boppy pillow (whatever your “boppy pillow” may be) out of the package.
Will be praying for you!

Haha, yep I’ve been thinking that A LOT this week about all the stuff you have no idea is part of being a mama! Well one of my boys dropped their first tooth they lost in the toilet! So um yeah I was fishing it out and gagging.
Yep, I know for a fact I would’ve gotten it out. So gross that I know that.
What is it about Lunchables that kids love so much? Mine think I’m the best mom ever if I let them get one.
Love the library cart! A metal serving cart is on my list for Farm Chicks this year!

Thanks for the laugh! I needed it!!
Would I? hahahaaa, I HAVE – many times in fact. so gross. But sometimes you gotta do it when it’s one-of-a-kind. Adam does that too – the favorite random toy thing with him every minute for days and then it’s onto something else. Must be a boy thing!

You are a good mom for rescuing the lego. With Andy, it was 8 (eight!) tires he swallowed off of two vehicles my dad had brought him from Britain! He couldn’t tell me where they’d gone when I asked (he was probably about 2), and they showed up the next day in his diaper! It took more than pliers to dig them out. Still makes me cringe all these years later.
no.
i would’ve said no.
but i am total spaz about poop.
my friends say that i am so i must be.
so that would have been flushed….immediately.
but i still like you.
i promise.
you are nicer than me.
