On the Wall

The playroom is quite literally, the heart of our home.

The kids spend a lot of time in there playing, digging for toys, and coloring.

I spend a lot of time in there cleaning it all up.

We all spend a lot of time passing through it since it is truly smack in the middle of the house.

You have to walk through the playroom to get to the kitchen or garage.

I wanted it to be playful and fun…but I also wanted to be deliberate about what I used to decorate with.

I believe that words are powerful…and surrounding ourselves with words that are inspiring, encouraging and filled with love is important.

You read everytime you walk by.  Whether you realize it or not.

Kinda like that M&M jar on the counter…the one you find yourself grabbing a handful from everytime you walk by even though you aren’t hungry and frankly, don’t even WANT M&M’s.

You read the words.  Every. Single. Time.

I was super excited to have won a giveaway for a shop credit to Blossom and Vine.

I had long been eyeing her hoop art.  After all, my hoop from Knitty Bitties needed some friends.

And may very well have created a slight hoopy obsession.

Aly  makes the hoops to order so I was able to customize the phrasing on each hoop.  (You can also customize colors of certain elements.)

This one normally says “You make me happy when skies are gray” which is darling, but I really wanted something that my kids would read (that is, when they learn how TO read) that would stay in their hearts.

I love the Doxology.

I can’t read this little hoop without breaking out into song.

This hoop normally says “You are my sunshine”.  Again, ridiculous cute, but I already have Aly’s print of the same wording just a few feet over.

The trim KILLS me.

Isn’t this what it feels like?

You find yourself slowing floating away…it’s almost inperceptible at first…you’re just doing your thing…

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.

Also added to our collection of happy on the walls, I gasped aloud when I first saw this.

Robenson, the sweet 6th grader we sponsor through Compassion International, sent this picture he drew for us.

Isn’t it beautiful?!

I immediately scrounged up a frame I had.

Precious.

He wrote that his favorite thing to do is ride bikes…but he doesn’t have one.

My heart broke in two.

We have about 8 of them in our garage at this very moment.

I don’t know if we’re allowed to, but on today’s list of things to do is “Find out if we can buy Robenson a bike.”

Immediately Henry asked if he could color a picture to send to Robenson.

A rainbow hued tractor picture is waiting to be mailed off.

I’m going to send this picture to him too.

I want him to know he is loved and valued and that he created a thing of beauty.

I want him to know that even if the letter writing is awkward and kind of forced, we do care.

He may not have a bike, but he has a special place in our hearts.

Thousands of miles away.

If you don’t sponsor a child yet, I seriously urge you to.  I’ll admit it’s kind of awkward and weird to write…we’ve been sponsoring Robenson for a few years now but I’m now beginning to see the blessings in OUR direction.  I’m humbled that God uses a sweet boy to minister to me and my family.

Perspective my friends.

Perspective is a powerful thing.

{As an aside, I would like to say that the coloring in these pictures is horrid.  I took them at 5:30 a.m. and the lighting was atrocious and then tried to rescue them in Photoshop…but considering I don’t know what the heck I’m doing in Photoshop, I may have simply butchered the files even more.  Just go with it, okay? }

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

So wonderful. I just created a playroom in our now livable basement and small one is crazy for it. I am crazy for the much tidier living room :-)

    I needed this.

We are in a rental house right now that I really don’t love. Yes…I realize how selfish that is when there are people all over the world without homes. I get it.

Still…I am having trouble decorating. Not wanting to put anything on the walls….

You are so right that words are powerful though.

I need to intentionally create a happy, encouraging and hope filled space for my family…whether or not I am thrilled with the wall color.

    Thanks (once again) Jeannett!

That line from Come Thou Fount is my VERY favorite line of maybe all songs everywhere. That whole verse speaks to my heart so clearly and sweetly in it’s gentle conviction that draws me instantly to confession and pleading to God to bind me with his goodness.

Thanks for the beautiful pictures and the great ideas. I think I’m going to decorate our playroom with lines from hymns that I love too. Fantastic idea.

I love the words you chose for those hoops. They’re perfect. And I love how the stamped words match the stamped verse Andrea put on those hoops. Looks like they were all meant to be together. :)
And I am praying the answer is a resounding “YES!” when you inquire about getting a bike for Robenson!

I did my own take on this. :) I’m looking for an old slightly yellowing hymnal that I can cut songs out of and frame to decorate our home.
