It’s been quite a week my friends.
Sweetness, sillyness, crazyness, and I-want-to-pull-out-my-hair-ness.
Link up your moments but be sure you’re only using cell phone pics!
Henry wakes up like clockwork between 6:24 and 6:28. Usually, I make him stay in his room until 7 because I’m mean like that.
But one morning I whispered “Do you want to go with Mommy and get some donuts? Just me and you?”
The way his face lit up?
Priceless.
Wearing his Thomas the Train pj pants and some flippies, we headed out.
Just mama and the boy. On a date. At 6:30 in the morning.
He picked out donuts laden in sprinkles and smothered in chocolate.
I mean, it’s not like you can get a healthy donut anyway, right?
Go big or go home.
He kept saying “This is so fun, Mama. I like going on dates with you.”
Mush. Just a puddle of mush my friends.
Without any prompting, he picked out deep fried, iced delicacies for the sisters too.
Which is a good thing because Miss Thing here has a sweet tooth like no other.
She was quite pleased with herself this morning.
Which is good because she’s usually a vile crabby little thing in the mornings.
And because no week around here seems to be complete without a trip to the Emergency Room…
Long story short:
Grandpa’s 1950’s Chemistry Set + Lucy + little viles of chemicals that mom had no idea were even in there + an empty vile that Lucy has in her mouth + Poison Control who freaks out and actually calls the hospital ahead of us to let them know we were coming + getting to cut ahead of everyone in the waiting room + potential for cardiac arrest = my Monday.
With all three kids in tow (including Lu who was perfectly bubbly and happy as a clam), we sat in the ER for monitoring.
“Monitoring is usually 6 hours…but in this case…(eyeing my three littles)…we’ll make it one hour.”
Thank you Jesus.
The kids were INCREDIBLE. So good. I really couldn’t believe it.
In the end, they think the vile may have been empty, or had very little in it. (Some of the bottles in the kit were full, others were empty…since I didn’t even know they existed, I couldn’t assume one way or the other. All I knew was that it was empty and she was “drinking” from it.)
While I wanted to KILL HER, because let’s face it, this little fake trip to the ER is going to cost us $800, I realized that it was answer to prayer.
She was fine. Period.
My sassy girl in her bright pink boots was sucking her fingers next to me and perfectly fine.
Worth $800.
(Remind me of this when I get the bills).
Remember how I said the kids were really really good?
They were.
Until about the last five minutes we were there, and Jill started to LOSE it.
It was naptime. She was exhausted and just wanted to get home so she could sleep (my kids won’t fall asleep anywhere but their cribs.)
In a fit, she grabbed my phone that was sitting next to me on the hospital bed and CHUCKED IT ACROSS THE ROOM.
Where it landed face down in the next little stall over.
The nurse looked up surprised “That sounded expensive.”
Thanks. You’re super helpful. They teach you that in Nursing School?
I was getting stabby. If you couldn’t tell.
Why yes, Jill. Undercover Naughty. Girlfriend has a temper. She is sweet and sugary and lovely 99% of the time.
But that 1%…
It was an expensive day. Good thing I pinned this.
On a lighter note, Henry has discovered the joy of lego building.
This set is ages 7-14.
The kid is 4. Clearly he’s a genius.
Clearly.
With minor help, he follows the directions on his own.
I want to jump off a bridge every time he asks for help, but I suppose there could be worse things.
I got to have coffee with my friend Joy the other night.
Which is always such a sanity saver.
I love my family, but sometimes I love them more from afar.
And finally, I discovered my new most favoritest thing in the whole universe.
We have a Wing Stop literally walking distance from my house. As in, if I stand on my front porch, I can actually SEE the back of the building it is in. Yet, I’ve never been.
The thought of fast-foodified hot wings sounded like blasphemy of the worst kind.
But. oh. my. word.
The fries. The fries people. My mouth is watering just thinking about the fries. The seasoning they put on them is seasoning from heaven. It’s the seasoning that God Himself would prefer. I just know it.
And the hot wings? Deep fried little morsels of goodness drenched in sauce that produces the perfect nose running experience.
I’m not entirely sure how people can NOT believe in God when such fabulousness as hot wings can exist in this world. And bacon. Bacon too.
Maybe Wing Stop needs to make bacon wrapped hot wings? Oh my goodness…I think I just died thinking about it. (Anyone know their PR team? Get them on that. STAT.)
Did I mention there is one within walking distance?
This is bad.
But oh so good.
Okay, now that I’ve rambled on forever…it’s YOUR turn!

Happy Day friends!!!
That’s quite a week! It’s stressful enough when your kids are sick or injured. I can’t imagine the added stress when you have to pay $800! It’s inconceivable to me (in Canada). Glad you are all well now (except for your phone!)
oh my goodness, that pic of your son at the donut shop is too precious! sorry for the stressful week.

Must be something in the air this week…I blame the fact that today is Friday the 13th and Monday was a full moon, but that’s just me :)
LOVE the pic of Henry with the Legos. My son is five and LOVES building Legos too. I am always impressed that they can figure out how to build the sets themselves. I look at the directions and half the time have no idea how to proceed.
LOVE your humor!!!! SOUNDS a lot like my house!!! LOL!!! I am your newest follower!!!!! Hope next week is better!!

I loved your lego comment. My son got several lego sets for Christmas and some said ages 9-12. I’m clearly over the age limit, but man those things are tough. He is only 7 and does much better than me. My mind seems to work better on Duplo legos. They are more my speed!
Oh how we love legos at our house.

we had a recent trip to the ER as well. Elijah ingested one of his sister’s medications and Poison Control did the same thing for us as well. I think they do that not only so you can get to the “front of the line” but also so you are held accountable for taking your child. i can only imagine how many people act like it is no big deal because their are no signs of anything happening and never go. scary thought. I am just glad that i witnessed him swallow the pill or i would have never known what happened.

Oh my…I totally can relate to weeks like this! Like you said, just try to remember his sweet & precious your little girl is when paying the $800 (or $10 minimum like we roll in our house when it comes to hospital bills)! I do love that donut date idea, I just may have to pull it with my big boy :)
oh, the legos….i’m quite familiar with them. thought my little man was a genius, too…..until we amassed approximately 30 different lego sets. now i think he’s an EVIL genius ;-)

my son is nine and still loves lego’s. he’s the quiet one that you wonder what is going on inside that head ~~~ hard to talk and be heard over the chatter of two younger more vocal sisters. but he shares his voice over legos. sitting side by side building quietly, he opens up and i learn about his heart and his thoughts and what is going on at school, etc. sometimes it is inconvenient to stop what i am doing but when he asks me to build with him i try to say *yes*.

So glad Lucy is ok. Love the lemon pepper ones at Wingstop. And I am not a blue cheese fan, but their fries dipped in their blue cheese dressing? Amazing.
