Christmas 2011

As is Christmas tradition in our house, the kids get new PJ’s to wear for the first time on Christmas Eve.

Why it matters that they sleep in new duds that night I don’t know.

Other than it makes for cute pictures.

The first thing Henry said to me when he came into our room “Mama, I heard something last night.  Up on the roof.  I think it was Santa!”

Imagination is a beautiful, beautiful thing.

Jilly was pretty excited to see the loot.

Santa ate most of his cookies and drank all of his milk.

And left three pieces just big enough for each of the kids to eat.

You know, at 7:15 in the morning.

Santa doesn’t wrap gifts.

Partially because by the time Santa gets to Christmas morning, he’s sick of wrapping and basically being lazy.  Ahem.

But also because then the gifts stand out from the crowd.  Yeah, that’s it.

Next year Santa may have to type things out…a five year old might recognize the penmanship. ;)

Santa brought Jilly a dog thing that talks and plays music and stuff.

It also comes with a USB cable.

You know, so you can program it and such.

Since when did toys get so darned complicated?!

A fancy baby pram for my crazy haired girl.

Can I just tell you how much I ADORE this girl’s hair in the morning???

I love the wild, fullness with her curls going in 800 directions.

Running my fingers through her hair in the mornings is no doubt one of my favorite things ever.

Next on the agenda is stockings.

Honestly, we could stop there and my kids would be happy for the day.

We go big on the stocking gig.

Well, Andy goes big, which means I have to keep up.

Jilly found a lightsaber…and apparently the wrapper to a Reece’s peanut butter cup.

Chick has a sweet tooth like her Daddy…and boy was it on display on Christmas morning.

Every time I turned around she was eating (or trying to eat) a piece of candy.  Just about every picture I have on my camera with her has her with a piece of candy in her hand.

Forget toys.  Get this girl a bag of chocolate and she’s good.

I got Henry a blow dart gun thing that shoots Nerf bullets.

I know, I’m the coolest mom ever.

And as you can see, Tess is the first victim.

This picture cracks me up.  She has no idea she’s about to get taken out.

And just to prove that moms don’t get any vacation days, and there are no such things as holidays, I present to you, the Mom Collage.

Exhibit A shows me doing that quintessential Mom Thing where I licked my finger and am wiping off Henry’s face.  Presumably chocolate.  You know, at 7:16 in the morning.

Exhibit B is Mom Wiping Snot.

It’s a glamorous job.  Be jealous.

(Note to self: maybe put a dab or two of makeup on next year.  Looking like a hot mess in every photo is pretty depressing.)

The whole crew.

Please pay no attention to the patio furniture doubling as couches.

Or the camping chairs people are sitting on.

New couches will be here…in a month.  Bah.  Who knew it took so stinking long???!!!  Boo.

And I’ll end this post of crazy with a small sampling of Lucy’s idea of smiling.

Pull out a camera and the girl makes this face.

I love that she hasn’t outgrown it…soon she won’t do it and I’ll be sad.  So for now, I’ll celebrate the Pirate Meets Elvis face.  Even if it’s not quite the beautiful smile I love that she makes naturally.

That girl has more personality in her pinky finger than most adults I know have in their entire bodies.

Not to be outdone, Jill has picked up on this goofy face making gig and has one of her own.

I love my nerdy kids.

(P.S. Grandmas, if you want to be super sad at how much the kids have grown in one stinking year, here’s last year’s post for comparison.  Time sucks.)

How was your Christmas?

{Side note: there are only THREE DAYS LEFT to donate to Xander’s adoption fund!  So if you’ve been meaning to and haven’t, please do it now!}

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

My Claire made the SAME face for years when I pulled out my camera….guess what I finally realized…she was mirroring ME while I took the picture! One eye closed, mouth twisted as I concentrated on ahem, perfection! :) She is 14 now. Knows better. And still, we tease her mercilessly for the years of photos we have with THIS face!! They grow fast. Enjoy every single moment! :)

Love that smile. And thanks for exposing the seedy side of motherhood. Lol. I think you could have rounded those out with wiping a butt or carrying chewed food in a cupped hand. Lmao! Motherhood is hardcore!
    Hugs!

I looked at last year’s pics and you’re so right about how much the kids have grown! Lucy and Henry are amazing enough, but really, look at how far Jillian has come in a year. God is good. Thanks again so much for putting up with all of us descending on your home. You are a wonderful hostess and it is so great to all be together.

Haha, the picture of Henry aiming his blow dart cracked me up.
When I saw that first pick of Lucy and Henry coming down the stairs, my immediate thought was “Man, I love her hair.” I love, love the body and waves.
    Looks like a great Christmas.
