I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

This sums up my parenting in a nutshell, and I know that you and Andy are the same kind of parents. Henry, Lucy, and Jillian are lucky to have you. Love you all.

You do realize that you by agreeing with this you are pretty well saying that you want your child’s future life partner to be controlling (stalking) and abusive (flipping out, driving them insane).

Clearly parenting with trust and respect for your child is for the weak at heart.

Trust and respect for a child grows along with letting your child know who you are and where you stand in the scheme of his/her life. Parenting is not for the faint of heart, but for those who believe that they have a CAREER. A parent does not “sit down” and parent from an easy chair, they are involved and know when to “let go” but they always “hold on” because we know our children always need us. We are not a friend, we are a mentor, a confidant, a shoulder to cry, but the voice that says, “straighten up!” The trust in parenting comes from trusting your “gut” that you’re doing right by your child(ren), knowing and trusting your own instincts or inner voice that says I brought this person into my life and I am here for them. Sometimes that means being tough, tougher than your contemporaries say you should. Yes, it means “stalking” your child, attending that game to cheer on the team but watching what “group” your kid drove off with. “Flip out” when you see those kids your child started to keep company with are a bad influence. Then “drive your child insane” by letting him/her know that I am here, I am that little voice inside your head or the one that whispers in your ear….this is mom/dad and I want you to know that is NOT how you were raised and until you my child “get it” I’ll be here reminding you every chance I get just how much you mean to me and that I love you today, tomorrow, and ALWAYS!!!! I told my kids this when they were growing up……I am NOT your friend, I am your mother. The person who has seen you at your worst and LOVES you in spite of all the things that could drive a saint away. I will stand at your side, push you through what life throws at you, and always be here when you think everyone has abandoned you. Now get up off your butt, stop your whining, and here’s a hug to reassure you that I AM HERE in your life and this is where I plan to be for a very long time.
