InstaFriday

Share your simple, sweet moments from the week using nothing but cell phone pictures.
It doesn’t have to be Instagram (which requires an iPhone), any cell phone pics will do!

Andy turned 31 this week.
When I told Henry that it was his Daddy’s birthday, he asked: “Will there be party hats?!”
Why yes son. There most certainly will be.
Off to WalMart I trudged for some Transformers party gear.
Because what’s the fun in turning 31 if you can’t have licensed paper products?

Henry started AWANA this week.
Being that I didn’t grow up going to Christian church, I’m not entirely sure what this is beyond a fun way to memorize Bible verses while wearing an entirely too dorky vest.
Bonus points for the church literally being half a block from our house and giving him a ride to class in the bike trailer!

Oh Pinterest, how I love thee!
A plastic globe on clearance at Target for $3.24 hung from the playroom ceiling?
Fab.
Extra fabulous because when Andy went to Home Depot for the light kit, he found a couple of pendant lights on clearance for $14 each…the plain light kit was $10 each…so I got really cool hanging mounts to really give it a more finished look!
(We threw away the glass shades that came with the pendants and just replaced them with the globe halves.)

I wish I remembered to use my bread machine more often.
Everytime I do I kick myself for waiting so long between uses.
I made this bread.
Amazing.
Fabulous.
(I’ll save you from reading all 250+reviews and tell you to add 1 tbls. of olive oil and when it’s baking, put four ice cubes in an oven safe bowl on the rack below the bread and then add four more ice cubes 5 minutes later.)
Oh, and for the record, I don’t ever actually bake the bread in the machine…I just use the dough cycle and then cook the bread in the oven. Always. Otherwise you have little dense bricks…

We took an impromptu bike ride this week.
And stopped at See’s Candy.
Naturally.

Jilly’s picking up on signing quite well.
It always makes me tear up when she asks for “more”.
I love that she is communicating with us.
I love that she can do it.
I just love it all.
Lu is shockingly good at navigating around Apple products.
We’ve never sat down and taught her how to do any of it…she just kinda figured it out.
If ever I don’t know where she is, I know I can likely find her “hiding” in a corner of my room (under a chair) with either the iPad or my iPhone.
Kinda stresses me out.

We sponsor a little boy in Haiti through Compassion International.
We got a sweet letter from him this week and we wrote back and included some stickers.
I really stink at the letters. I never really know what to say. It feels forced and I wish it didn’t.
Boo.

My entry in this week’s InstaChallenge: What is something you really dislike?
Ranch dressing.
Blech, gag, nasty, I want to vomit just thinking about it.
Californians seem to have a special affinity for Ranch.
They dip their french fries and pizza in it…they slather it in their burgers, and just about anything else you can imagine.
There’s always ketchup on the table at restaurants, but waitresses automatically ask “Did you want a side of Ranch with that?”
I will never ever ever understand it.
Nasty Sauce.
Now it’s your turn to grab a button and link up!
If you’re up for it, the next InstaChallenge is to snap a picture of your last DIY project. It can be something you made/sewed/painted/installed whatever! It can be big, little, expensive or free. Whatever you want, as long as YOU did it!

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

I’ve been wanting to link up with you for a while and I finally did it. Thanks so much for hosting, I love this idea! I also love the photo of your correspondance with your sponsored child. We sponsor a little girl in Africa and I really REALLY need to write her a letter. This was a good reminder. I have never met someone who didn’t like ranch dressing. It’s not my favorite but I will admit to occasionally dipping my pizza in it *gasp* ;)

Thanks for letting me play along with you this week!

LOVE the map lamp!! I have seen so many people recently on IG who are posting pics of the fun stuff they have made after seeing something on Pinterest. I’ll have to give something a go sometime soon myself!

My husband and I sponsor a little girl through World Vision and a boy through Compassion. Totally understand the “forced” feeling – I swear I ask the same questions in every letter.

I’m going to chime in here as someone who has experience with AWANA as a kid and as a parent. I went through the whole AWANA program growing up. I went to a Christian college where the professors would often joke about the AWANA kids. It was obvious who had gone through the program by the number of verses they had memorized. It’s a wonderful, time-proven program! My boy are in it at our church, my youngest just started Cubbies this year, and I LOVE hearing them quote the verses they’ve hidden in their hearts. You’ll love it!

I have to agree on the Ranch dressing, it definitely has never been one of my favorites.
Signing is awesome! And I have to say I too am scared by the ease with which my 2 yr old can navigate with a mouse. Technology seems to creep in way too young sometimes.

I live in California and think Ranch is the most disgusting goo on earth. I will confess though, I ADORE Cool Ranch Doritos. ;-)
Also, my kids are in Awanas too and love it. I do not, for the life of me, understand the need for such dorky vests…

    Hi Friend!

Grace is the same way with my ipad and Angry Birds… to the point that I have to hide out when I’m using it… however, she is much better than I am at it:)

Hope you are well!! Thank you for continuing to give me some sunshine on bad days… love you!
