It’s another edition of InstaFriday where you link up your blog posts comprised of nothing but cell phone pictures from the week!
You don’t have to use Instagram (I do and thought it made for a cute link up name!) but any cell phone pics are welcome!
In fact, if you want, follow me on Instagram…I’m jgibson. :)
Weekends don’t seem quite complete around here without a trip to Home Depot for paint.
A fun tea towel accompanied me as I picked out colors.
I’ll share my project next week…stay tuned!
(I’m sure you’re all waiting with baited breath…I live a really glamorous life…)
Henry randomly announced that he wanted his training wheels off.
No one had prodded him or asked…he just came in with a wrench in his hand and told his dad to do the honors.
So he did.
But not before equipping him with a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads AND gloves.
“You’re seriously putting all that gear on him????”
“Yes, Jeannett. You know how he is. If he falls and hurts himself, we’re toast. He’ll never do it again and he’ll be 28 riding a bike with training wheels.”
“Good point. Do we have any pillows we can duct tape to him?”
You see, Henry is a cautious kid…which is why we were so surprised he wanted them off…but he’s also the kind of kid that if he doesn’t do something perfectly right the very first time, he pretty much refuses to ever do it again.
Funny enough, he didn’t fall once…and he’s now riding around the neighborhood like a pro…without all the crazy padding.
Jill’s wispy ultra straight ultra fine hair is getting SO long!
Detangler is my BFF.
Not Jill’s so much since she screams like I’m torturing her…but it’s all the cost of beauty…or at least untangled tresses.
Velveeta is all kinds of wrong.
So vile.
I kinda have to psych myself out as I cut it.
“you will not gag. you will not gag. you will not gag.”
Yet, it’s a necessary evil to this awesome goodness.
My girls have been getting into all kinds of naughty together lately.
LuLu gets in Jill’s crib…and they play dollies together.
It was so sweet the other day I just left them to play for a little bit. I couldn’t help it. They were genuinely playing together…and that’s not something you see too often.
A few minutes later, I looked back at the video monitor (that we use to keep an eye on Jill in case she has a seizure)…and saw both of my girls passed out.
Melt. My. Heart.
I bought this cookbook two years ago after the girls were born.
I figured life would be crazy post twins and thought having an arsenal of crock pot recipes would be a good thing.
Except I’ve never made a single thing from it.
Two years later.
It has no pictures!!!
How am I supposed to believe that Tasty Chicken Soup is actually tasty???!!!
You want me to just assume it is and waste a bunch of stuff when I don’t even know what it’s supposed to look like when I’m done with it???!!!
Insanity!
Am I the only one that can’t make a recipe without a picture?
Lie even if it’s true.
Thanks.
And finally Andy and I snuck out for dinner out sans kids.
To a sushi bar with big picture windows overlooking the ocean.
Where we both ordered tempura…because neither of us really likes sushi.
And I almost had to ask for a fork.
We’re legit like that.
And with that, it’s your turn to grab a button and link up!
Don’t forget to comment on at least two other InstaFriday-ers because comments are nice and we’re nice folks in this neck of the interwebs!
Happy Day Friends!
thanks for the party.
it’s one of my very faves! happy weekend.
You are a very witty girl! I love your commentary with your photos! I totally have to have pictures with my recipes. I would go to your sushi joint for the view, order a veggie roll, remove the sea weed and definitely ask for a fork! yea for Henry! and I love that your girls sacked out together!
Ah…Friday. We escaped the hurricane down here in Florida but sending our prayers out to those in it’s path!
And the cookbook thing? Who thought that was a good idea to nix the photos? How can I “Fix It and Forget It” if I never “Knew It?”
Have a great weekend!!
happy weekend to you, jeannett!
detangler is my bff, too.
and CRACKING UP over the picture-less cookbook. tragic.
xox
tragic.
that’s perfect!
I used to love food.com (formerly recipezaar.com) for 2 reasons. One you could see what others rated it and said about it. And two you could filter out the ones that don’t have pics. I want to know what my food is going to look like. If it looks nasty, I ain’t making it. Now Pinterest is my BFF for finding recipes. Though I have learned that pictures can be deceiving (never try the mac n cheese crock pot recipe going around on Pinterest. gag.).
Carrie, you need to have a board “What not to cook on Pinterest” for me to follow LOL
LOL, I could definitely start one! I’ve tried a few things I haven’t like from there.
Love the pic of your girls together! I know how rare those moments can be & how sweet when you do capture them! As far as the cookbook goes, I’m a picture girl too! I never buy it unless it comes equip with pleasing pics (& usually less than 10 ingredients!) love crockpot meals though!
I’m with you on the cookbook thing … there should be a photo on every. single. page. How do I know if mine looks right if I have nothing to compare to? And I so agree on the Velveeta too … blech! I only use it for one recipe (which I found online, complete with picture!) and I have to melt it in the microwave and I swear that stuff takes forever to melt! Frightens me!
1. I have those paint colors on my dining room walls! Love them. And they totally match my tea towels, too.
2. Sweet, sweet pic of your girls! Swoon.
3. Velveeta. I swore I would never, EVER cook with the stuff. It jiggles! Eew. But there’s this one recipe…and in that recipe, Velveeta makes the world a happy place.
4. I have two fix-it and forget it cookbooks, and I rarely pull them out, despite the yummy goodness (totally understand the picture thing, and, for the life of me, I can’t seem to plan ahead for a meal…at least not more than an hour ahead). BUT. If your cookbook has a recipe for Potluck Potatoes (submitted by Lovina Baer), they are awesome. Just cut back on the amazing amount of butter it calls for. Cranberry Pork Roast (Phyllis Attig) is another good one – we add a little cinnamon (1/2 tsp) and allspice (1/4 tsp). My 7yo son’s absolute fave meal. And on cold, hurricane-y days (we are battening down the hatches this weekend), we like the Beef Stew recipe from Wanda S. Curtin. Major comfort food.
Love the total randomness of your InstaFridays. If only I had a camera phone… ;)
How did you get Henry to ride without training wheels??! My recently turned four little dude has mentioned it a couple times and I just am not ready! I don’t think he’s ready! Gah!! And yes cookbooks should have pictures! That should be a requirement! I need to know I did it right by comparing what mine looks like with the pic!!!
Happy Friday!!
I have that cook book! The lasagna is really easy and good. When we 1st got it we tabbed all the recipes we wanted to try then rated them… I guess it’s just trial and error. but there are some good recipes in there… I dare you to try it ;)
I usually like to have photos to look at while I cook too–I guess I need the reassurance.
Congrats on Henry’s mad bike riding skills!
Velveeta is disturbing, but chicken spaghetti wouldn’t be the same without it. And chile con queso.
Happy weekend!
Hello! I love this linky party!!! I love Instagram!!!
Your daughter’s hair is soooo pretty!!! I, too, need pictures in my cookbooks! (Not a lie!)
Kim
So precious. I remember the days/nights of shared cribs and finding my twins sweetly snuggled together. Once in awhile, it still happens. Once in a blue moon.
My daughter has that fine/thin/straight (blonde) hair. And at almost 8, she still hates the morning hair combing process. Sigh.
Your photo of the girls is so precious…YAY Henry!!! You little stud muffin :) And yes, all recipes should come with pictures. xo!!!
I am like you, cookbooks need pictures.
OMG!! I so agree about the Velveeta and here’s why:
Way back when I got married my sister planned a beautiful bridal shower for me. She did a whole ‘afternoon in Tuscany’ theme. All kinds of wine, pasta dishes and even imported Italian candies for favors.
She wanted fruit and cheese to go with the wine and made the mistake of putting my ditzy aunt in charge of the cheese. Well my Aunt brought 3 bricks of Velveeta and nothing else!! So on these pretty trays were this fnky Velveeta.
To top it off the hall she booked had no A/C. It was unusually hot for May and the cheese started to melt. We now call my Aunt ‘Auntie Velveeta’. (Not to her face of course!!)
Couldn’t tell you how many times my Mom told me when combing out my hair ‘It hurts to be beautiful.’ Cheap detangler tip: Put a few drops of good conditioner in a squirt bottle and fill it with water. :)
Love all of Henry’s padding!
My Rory (2 1/2) has the EXACT same hair as Jill! So does my Maddie (4), but her’s is waaay longer now!
Yay for dinner with an ocean view! And almost had to ask for a fork . . . that’s pathetic. I always have to ask for a fork.
We had sushi date night too!! But mine was not overlooking the ocean. Also didnt request a fork. I just use my fingers. really.
I need pictures in my cookbooks, too! Word, sistah’! I am loving instafridays on my blog, too. Thanks for the great idea! I love linking up with you!
Thanks for the links to the two AWESOME looking recipes!
I won’t make anything without a picture. How am I supposed to make it if I don’t know what it’s supposed to look like?? It doesn’t even make sense.
lol. I think it is funny that you think Velveeta is so gross! I mean, I think some things are gross, but Velveeta isn’t one of them. But maybe it is now, to me… I haven’t had it in some time. Although… It’s really tasty… ahha!!
I love your Insta-Fridays. :) I did my VERY first one last week. Didn’t get it done this week. WAH. I’m working on it. Takes me time to add things to my life. :) So happy to find you through nickandcarina.blogspot.com
