Saturated

I have a confession to make:

I’m terrible about daily Bible reading.

Absolutely terrible.

I try, I really do.

And then it falls by the wayside again.

I have no excuse.

I mean, I find time to blog almost daily, right?

Ack.

That’s convicting.

::sigh::

Not that it makes it better or okay, but I do try to have reminders of God’s Word sprinkled throughout our house.

Everyday reminders of His love.

Encouragment that stems from Truth.

Reliance on His goodness in all things.

Not just on Sundays.

Not tucked away in drawers to be pulled out for special occassions.

Our family verse.

“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

It’s also engraved on the inside of Andy’s wedding ring.

I love that.

I intended to photograph it, but I’m forgetful and he’s at work now.  Boo.

Ephesians 3:20 by Hope Ink.

Love the colors.  Love the fonts.  Love the message.

It ain’t about us folks.

Never has been.  Never will be.

And that makes me happy.

We’re so loved its impossible to understand.

I love the bright crazy colors.

You can’t help but notice it.

(It looks like Dayspring doesn’t make this exact canvas anymore, but they do have it in
large sizes
)

So so so true.

Not a burden (even if somedays it feels that way!).

Not bothersome or trouble (even if I want to lock myself in a closet somedays).

Three perfect and lovely gifts.

(The frame and photo are a gift from our church on the girls’ dedication.  We also have one with just Henry.)

Tiny Bibles.

Our church also gives these to each child when they are born.

My kids tote them along every week to church.

Even if they can’t read yet, I want them to be in the habit of using them.  (A habit I’m awful about!!!)

Even if those little pink and blue covers have teeth marks.

The words inside are gold.

A bible.

Tattered and worn.

But words timeless.

This Bible is so super cool, I’m actually gonna give it its own post.

Stay tuned.

Happy fun art on my gallery wall.

I love this framed canvas.

I often forget that my blessings spill out all around me.

I need this reminder.

Speaking of necessary reminders…

I have this taped to this inside of my kitchen cupboards.

It puts my bad attitude in check when I’m pouting about dishes.

Our family rules canvas that includes paraphrased scripture amid the reminders to have good manners and read more.

Sprinkled between the books about airplanes, dinosaurs and Eric Carle, are God’s promises.

Grandpa Rod’s prayer book from childhood.

So sweet.

The sign Daddy’s youth pastor made for him in college.

Yellowed from five years in a boy’s nasty apartment.

Now hanging on Henry’s bedroom wall.

A quote that is as much a reminder for ME as it is for my children.

I fall short.

I am despartely imperfect.

But I do try.

Even if it’s oftentimes not hard enough.

Do you try to display God’s words through your house too? How do you do it?

I'm a mom to four. A wife to one. I believe in story. I love telling you about mine and would love to hear yours. There's really no sense in wasting our suffering and not sharing in each other's joy. We're all in this together...even if it doesn't always feel like it.

I am terrible too. For a while I was doing really great…following along our church’s daily reading plan every. single. day. But it’s been weeks and I keep putting it off. I am so thankful for this post Jeannett…CONVICTING! A few weeks ago I came across a book at the thrift store “Growing with Jesus–100 daily devotionals” by Andy Holmes (there’s a picture of the cover in my last week’s instafriday post). It’s for children ages 5-9. But I LOVE IT! Simple. To the point. And I think it will encourage me to dig further into the “Bible verse of the day”…

I need to get more pictures and framed stuff like that…and to read my bible more.

    Denissa says:

I’m RIGHT there with you!! I too have verses and reminders spread throughout our house. I find it harder to spend time alone w/ God when I’m not in a Bible study or something where I have accountability. I know thats terrible, but true! :(
I LOVE the things that you have in your house, I’ve been eyeing Hope Ink for a while now!!

Sooo I’m thinking I should clarify….I do have a 6 yr old I’m doing the daily devotions with. I realized my comment may have sounded like I bought the book for me! I do need simple and to the point but that would definitely be taking it too far :)

a lovely post, and a reminder that I put Bible reading last. Even though God’s word comes to my mind and flows from my thoughts and mouth all day. I have three large crosses hanging on the sides of my cabinets over my kitchen sink. One says Grant me the strength wisdom and courage thing and one says All things are possible with God. And one is blank but it reminds me all day of God’s love for us. My dining area has the verse Give us this day our daily bread. And several others throughout my house. Thank you for putting God up front today for all your readers.

I have a hard time making time too! Yet I make tons of time for the internet. :) Thankfully God loves us just where we are. I have verses listed in several places on 3×5 cards: Phil2:14-15 (by my sink & microwave), Eph 4:32, Gal. 5:22-25 (on my bathroom mirror), Is. 40:28-31. I also have a family rules canvas that i paraphrased a lot on, but I listed the references next to them on the canvas. And, lastly I have prayers for my son taped to throughout the house with the scripture references that they are coming from. I got the idea from a blog that I can’t remember. I would like to put 1 Thes. 1:4 up in my kitchen with vinyl on a great spot above my cabinets, but that is a project for the future. Thanks for posting this and reminding us how important it is to display the Lord’s Word in our homes.

I love this post and all the beautiful displays of scripture. I find when I do get into a groove a devotional or study, I always lose my footing when I transition from one thing to the next. Right now, I listen to teaching via podcasts, which I LOVE. As for displaying scripture, I do it similar to you. . . though I NEED the coffee one!!

love, love, love this, Jeannett! Always helps me to remind myself that God’s Word is “not just idle words for you – they are your LIFE” (deut. 32:47) We’ve try to remember that it’s more important than our actual physical food, by having “Bible time” at our house before breakfast in the morning. Doesn’t always happen, but it’s becoming more and more of a habit as we practice :) Oh, and I can’t wait to read the post about the old Bible!
