If left to their own devices, my eyebrows would be a bushy, crazy mess.
In fact, I’d likely be rocking a unibrow.
Not good.
For much of my adult life, I plucked, cursed, waxed, and cursed.
Not ideal.
But a necessary evil.
Because I’m quite certain my husband doesn’t want to be married to a unibrowed She-Beast.
And then about 7 years ago, I discovered eyebrow threading.
Love Love Love.
Love it so much that I let my brows go, threatening to overtake my face, until I go down to Southern California to visit family.
Upon which, I almost within an hour or two of arriving, beeline to Little India (not kidding) and ask for Jodi.
Jodi remembers me.
She always asks how the kids are and comments on how I must be visiting again.
And then she gets to work.
Bobbing and weaving and plucking.
Apparently “all good Indian women know how to thread”…or so Jodi informs me when I ask her how she learned to do this.
Andy was so fascinated by this whole process that he actually came in with me and stood watching her.
His engineer brain trying to figure out how Jodi can take a simple piece of thread and using her hands and mouth, pluck each and every rogue hair.
Then we went home and he tried to do it himself.
Not okay.
I always felt like getting my brows threaded was this cool, underground, insider kind of thing.
And let me tell you, I am NEVER in the know about anything cool, underground, or otherwise insider.
None of my friends had any clue what I was talking about.
But I’m seeing it crop up in fancy schmancy salons now.
And it makes me a little sad.
I may not need Jodi anymore.
I like Jodi.
Besides, Jodi only charges me $5.99.
Jodi rocks.
So, my point is that if you see eyebrow threading available in your local posh salon, do yourself a favor and do it.
Your eyebrows will never look nicer.
For reals.
(In case you are wondering if it hurts, of course it does! You are ripping hairs out of your face! That’s not gonna feel good folks. But it’s the price you gotta pay. Unless you like the She Beast look. Then by all means, drop it like its hot. But it certainly hurts less than waxing, so there.)
I’ve NEVER heard of this! And I also have untamable eyebrows! In fact, someone once said, when they saw me for the first time (they knew my family, but not me): “Oh, how cute! You have eyebrows just like your dad!” Uhhh… have you seen my dad??? Seriously? You don’t say that to people – especially a girl! Anyways, if I see this – I’m game!

that is so cool. i always knew you were cool, but this totally elevated you in my book.
now i know why you’re always heading down to southern cali.
Tess is certainly hooked on threading…I will try it sometime. Hope all is well…miss you all.

I hate to disagree. But I disagree. I have been waxing this hairy Latin face for years. I heard about threading and gave it a go a couple of years ago. IT HURT SO BADLY. Maybe it was just the girl I went to. Maybe I need to go to Little India (which is where??). I hate waxing too but it’s one rip instead of minutes of agony via thread. Most of the time I love thread. But add an -ing and I am not a fan. Wish I was.

Okay, I have old man thick caterpillar eyebrows if I let them grow out, and I always get them waxed because the one time I tried eyebrow threading in the middle east it hurt like…well it just HURT. A lot. They do it at kiosks in the mall here and I always walked by with a smug attitude like I knew how much it hurt and pitied the poor people who tried it. But now I hear it doesn’t hurt? I feel robbed. And sort of violated by the lady who ripped my hair off my face in such a painful manner!
(and, hey, I *am* Jodi!)

I’ve been threading my eyebrows for a few years now…used to go down to SB to get them done…but now that the mall has one open there…I go there. Although, I don’t like how it’s out in the open…but whatever…for $10 it’s worth it!!!
Since my name is Jodi, I love any blog post that includes the words, “Jodi Rocks!”
I don’t want to burst your bubble of coolness, but here on the East Coast, every mall has at least one kiosk that is dedicated to eyebrow threading.
As in smack, dab in the middle of the mall for anyone and everyone to watch it happening. I was always baffled by the fact that women were willing to have hairs ribbed from their face for all the mall to see.

Here is Yuba City we have a large Punjabi population, so there’s lots of places to get eyebrows threaded. I haven’t been able to give up plucking long enough to let my go so I can try threading!
Omg!!! I think we go to the same person. I get my threading done by a lady named jodi in little india for $5.99. She is awesome! How funny is that!
Here in Grand Rapids, MI those ladies are all over the malls… thankfully they finally took their threads & went INTO a shop- I may give it a try now (I was never a big fan of being de-fuzzed in front of everyone at the mall!!).
PS: i totally had Tom Selleck moustaches for eyebrows in HS…ugh!
